B-Sens 2023-24 Belleville Senators

Belleville getting dominated in a must-win on home ice against Syracuse. Down 3-0 a few minutes into the 2nd period.

This will slam the door on their slim playoff chances.

Those are the only guys who were/are NHL prospects with a realistic playing future to play for the Sens AHL team in the past 5 years. , 2 of them are replacement guys.

That’s absolutely putrid.

(Never counted goalies)

The 2021-2023 stretch, including dealing away everything, is hurting the prospect pool mightily

That’s putting it nicely…

And these draft years are actually putting the whole rebuild in jeopardy, because that was just ONE of the problems that emerged during the Dorion era…

If only the team could have been sold a few years earlier to stop the Dorion hemorrhage… Staios will need to continue to pull off some smart moves

Let's always keep in mind that the AHL is not the NHL, what these young guys do in other leagues doesn't always translate to the NHL we have seen that countless times. People always talk about players be put in a situation to be successful but at the same time players have to take advantage of their chances, do something to get noticed, get on the scoresheet somewhere & make some hits & make some plays regardless of where they have put you in the lineup. Do it in lower leagues & do something when you get called up or joining a team. Lots of players have started on the 4th line & their play dictated moving up a line or two, lots of players have gone undrafted & outplayed drafted players, these things happen in sports all the time, show something & do something, just do it!

Roster Notes:

Defenceman Max Guenette suffered a significant facial injury on Wednesday night against Syracuse and missed last night’s game. The Senators also reassigned forward Jake Chiasson from Orlando (ECHL) to Belleville yesterday. Forward Hayden Hodgson will serve the second game of his two-game suspension tonight, while Angus Crookshank remains on NHL recall to Ottawa. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Forward Xavier Borugault brings a three-game point streak into tonight’s game (two goals, one assist). He and linemates Phil Daoust and Jan Jenik have been generating plenty of chances and energy for the Sens the past couple of games, despite the split results. Daoust has three points over his last two games, including a goal and an assist on Wednedsay and another helper last night. Captain Garrett Pilon recorded his 40th point of the season last night, giving him at least 40 points in back-to-back seasons and for the third time in his AHL career. Leevi Merilainen’s fourth shutout of the season last night was also his 15th win, and he becomes the fifth Belleville goaltender to win 15 games in a season (Joey Daccord, Filip Gustavsson, Marcus Hogberg, Mads Sogaard x2).

While no Amerks were able to find the net on Friday, rookie forward Konsta Helenius has enjoyed the rest of the season series against the Senators. The 18-year-old Finn, selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the 14th overall selection in last summer’s NHL Entry Draft has 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists) this season with nine of those points coming against Belleville. His last four multi-point games have also all come against the Senators.

When they miss the playoffs by ~5 points or whatever it ends up being, you can probably chalk it up to being bottom 5 on both the PP and PK.
