Speculation: 2023-24-25 Sharks Roster Discussion

Holy overpay
Not that much of an overpay. I would say its a bit steep (maybe exclude our '26 2nd since that's basically a late 1st), but edm 1st, ferraro, and Bystedt would be a good deal. KAM is a legit top 4 Dman who should be good for at least 5-7 years. Krieder is a great top 6 wing, and can be flipped for a good pick in time.

Id be perfectly happy for that deal.

I see the sharks as having six ‘non-critical’ but valued assets that should be available for top 4 dmen. Our next two seconds, Dal 1st, EDM 1st, Musty, and Bystedt. On average they’re worth a late first each (EDM 1st and Musty being the most valuable, the seconds being the least valuable).

Eklund, 2nd OA, Cherny, Dickinson, and next year’s first aren’t available for top 4 guys, but could be included for a young #1 guy or good top pairing RHD with #1 upside (talking a Faber level guy). Obviously, I’m talking one (unless it’s Seider).

Sure, McKenna. But you add Faber, Fabbro, Marchment, and another decent top 6 forward, and you’re probably talking like a 7% chance of McKenna. I’ll take a 100% chance of Faber over a 7-13% chance of McKenna and a 93% chance of Stenberg, Bjork, Lin, or Belchetz. Especially when #1 D is our biggest gap.

The reality is, I don’t see a top pairing Dman being added, but 2-3 of those six secondary assets will be used to add a top 4 dmen this summer. Won’t be surprised if a similar trade is repeated next year.

He did not. He scored 38. And if you just use the past two seasons, he drops to 36th. That's hardly an indicator of much in this discussion.

Well shit, that totally eviserated Hodge’s argument. The two whole points and only being the 2nd best even-strength scoring defenseman on most teams instead of best on half the teams. What a scrub.

While declining to 55th among defensemen this season in even strength points. You want to give up assets and commit six years to someone already declining in productivity before 25? Seems like a poor decision.

You can teach it but you can also fail to teach it to individuals who just don't get it at that level.

Do we really doubt that Miller isn’t going to be at least a solid middle pairing guy during his prime? If you look at 22-24 as an outlier year for him, and then just take the rest as what Miller actually is then he probably doesn't look like he is in decline.

Provided the cost to acquire him isn’t exorbitantly expensive then I think Miller is an interesting potential addition. Plus size and skating is never a bad thing on defense, especially for a team that doesn’t have much of it to begin with.

It doesn't bother me a bit. I just like to call out trolls for who they are. Insignificant and boring.
Someone isn't prepared for Will Smith to be the seventh most famous one. Give me a good troll name to at least make these interactions with you worth my time. Or else its back to the warriors board for you

If you honestly think it’s happening because of plays Miller is making, you go for it but I find it to be silly. I don’t know why you’d want to pay a 6x6 to a middle pairing guy when we have developing talent that should fill that pretty easily if we just wait a bit. Miller isn’t coming here to change our fate anytime soon and I’m not sure what people are seeing here with him.

Precisely. At age 23, Miller was playing 22 minutes a night in the NHL on a playoff team while we're hoping that Muk makes the jump to full time NHLer next season on the worst team in the league.

Muk's best case scenario at this point is being K'Andre Miller. Let's not overrate our own guys. Dickinson has the upside to be better and be a top pairing guy, but if EVERYTHING in Muk's development goes right (which has yet to happen with trades, injuries, etc.) he turns into Miller while only being 2 years younger.

I'm high on Muk and glad he's in the organization, but people should not pretend that he's a 21 year old with tons of runway to make a huge leap in his game. His most likely outcome is a good bottom pairing guy that can play some 2nd unit PP. His best case scenario is being a middle pairing guy - which Miller already is (and then some).

If the cost to acquire is Ferraro and a pick and the contract is essentially 4 years at 5.5% of the cap when cap space begins to matter in 2027-28 (post-Celebrini/Smith extensions), sign me up for that as opposed to having to give out a 6 year deal for more money to a 28-30 year old UFA top 4 D in summer 2027 when we're ready to compete.

A bird in the hand is holding on to what you already have. We can go for someone who is a much better fit for what we have than get someone that would also then need a partner to perform well with. We also don't yet have the offense of the Rangers the past three years to get even just the production Miller did this past season with heavy minutes. That response just doesn't make any sense to me. I'd rather pay some higher cost to acquire Dobson than Miller. Dobson actually provides something the team needs.

Apparently MTL is open to moving Logan Mailloux, per the Athletic.

Anyone interested in the former troubled 1st rounder. He is a RD and is 6’3”
