I like everything except the Nemec trade. I know none of the individual assets are all that valuable but it still feels like too much to give up for a guy who could still easily be a "not even playable in sheltered third pair minutes" level bust.
I was thinking it could be the 2026 Col 2nd instead. I think it is worth the gamble. I don’t think Thompson is more than a NHL/AHL tweener. Bystedt would be tough to give up but it is worth the chance at what Nemec could become. Jiricek just went for a 1st+2nd+3rd+4th and is not seen as good as Nemec do I don’t think that value is too far off. I actually don’t think NJ does that deal.

If you read the NJ fans on here they make it sound like Nemec is basically untouchable.

I really like the idea of the sharks picking him up since he seems to be one of the few young RHD that has all the tools and is potentially available. Obviously you don’t want to see a big overpayment but it’s slim pickings for good young RHD.

New Jersey fans overrate their prospects more than most.

If Chernyshov continues to develop at this rate and there is not an unfortunate injury in near future, I think he'll go the route of starting at AHL next year, get call up with either Celebrini or Smith and hope he sticks.
I think it's great that he is a right shot player, even though listed LW. I think if he can play either side he could be a swiss army knife option for that group next year. Best case scenario Sharks will have options with Eklund/Chernyshov and Celebrini/Smith. In the long run Chernyshov would fit any of the top 9 lines if he finds his groove at NHL speed.

Possibly but there will be a few others in his position trying to do the same with Halttunen and Musty likely going there next season. Considering the team's needs on defense, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these guys used as trade bait but I'm hoping they find a way to succeed. Even if Smith becomes a permanent center by the time next season starts, we still have Eklund, Toffoli, Zetterlund, and Kovalenko that are likely top-9 wingers with Graf, the three winger prospects that will turn pro next season, and the possibility of someone like Lund or Muldowney coming in to see what they can do. There's a lot of healthy competition at all different levels. It's a really good spot to be in.

If the price is right, Grier should go for it. I have no idea what Lou would give it up for, but I would guest some "hard working" players + young prospect + picks. I would start with for Ferraro + Kunin + Musty + 1st round (Dallas)

Edit: I think this might be a trade that could change the whole course of this team for good. He doesn't need to be 1D by himself, he will get support from Walman next year, and Dickinson in couple of years and with a lot luck Schaefer. He can take that 1RD spot for good and we don't have to worry about that for like 6 years.
I think his production will also rise with change of scenery, Islanders hockey isn't exactly boosting that.
Of course there is a risk and some posters don't like him that much but he is at perfect age for defencemen.
We'll see! At the right price I say go for him!

That's definitely a start. NYI wouldn't even consider this offer because they'd get better ones.

Making a play for Dobson only really makes sense if we're legitimately trying to fill all the roster spots with players capable of filling their roles. That means having a 2C if Smith isn't ready or a 2W if he is, an entirely made over bottom six except for Wennberg, practically an entirely new blue line around Dobson except maybe one or two guys, and a backup goalie. It's doable in one offseason but the D makeover can be an issue. Though in Dobson's case with the Islanders, we're probably looking at Dickinson, Musty, and the Dallas 1st and I don't think the Sharks are ready for that sort of trade yet nor that Dobson's the guy we want to make the #1.

Yep, maybe you're right. Buffalo for example can totally overpay for Dobson, but I don't know... weirder trades have happened. Let's hope MG has some gem (outside of the core) that he wants.

Why? Dobson is 25 years old. We'd be making the trade for 5 years from now more than next season.

If we're trading that amount of futures and investing roughly 10 mil a year into Dobson's next contract, you're doing everything possible to maximize that decision by using all the space we have and trying to ice the most competitive team we can. If we're not ready to do that for whatever reason, we probably shouldn't pull the trigger on someone that will cost what Dobson will cost.

We have cap space to fill some holes this offseason, a 25 year old top 2D, who is right handed, would immediately change the dynamic of this team. I would AGGRESIVELY pursue Dobson. He’s also exactly the age that Grier likes — can come into the NHL now but young enough to grow with the team.

Starting next year with:

??? - Dobson
Walman - ???
Muhk - ???

… is miles better than what we have now. And if we luck into Schaefer, having Dobson, Schaefer and Dickinson as the D corp would be huge.

What do the Isles want, is the question?

Even without asking a young Schaefer to jump immediately into the NHL, that's a big upgrade. We'll see if Grier&co think he's the right piece. "Feels" like another one of these "the boards called it" trades but we'll see.

Always depends on the price. If we manage to land him with Musty and the Dallas 1st and some other lesser valued future asset like Mukhamadullin or Cagnoni or another winger prospect or a 2nd round or later pick then I'd probably be fine with it but I don't think my main pieces going the Isles' way would be something more valuable than Musty and the Dallas 1st.

I feel like the Ducks could beat our offer pretty easily with something based around Zegras and/or Mintyukov, two players they don't seem to believe in.

Yeah, my fear is that the Isles seem to want a ready to go young player and ours are still cooking and I’m not sure I’d be willing to give up Eklund.

Yeah, I would definitely go Dallas 1st, second, musty, throw in prospect but that probably doesn't come close to getting it done.

Still think it's too early to trade away too many futures. Need some young guys to prove they are core guys
