I’ve always found it funny how I’ve always heard no one wants to play here but the moment they play here they love it and want to stay. The only guy off the top of my head that I can remember that was hell bent on leaving was Brian Campbell and that was mainly because he wanted to be closer to family.
I;ve mentioned this before, but there was an interview with someone we signed in UFA in the early 2010s, not Wellwood but same vintage, and he drops the line, "San Jose, well everyone wants to play there".

Considering it feels like no one ever wants to come here, this line stuck out.

A lot of the "players don't want to come to SJ" narrative came from the fact that the Sharks didn't have the cap space to make a competitive offer.

Or perhaps simply felt that they didn't need to and just needed to fill in the roster around the edges.

I wonder how much the Sharks not necessarily being big players on the free agent market was choice, rather than force.

Another offseason roster:
FA:
RD Pionk 5 x 7.5mil
C/LW Bennett 5 x 7mil
G Lindgren 2 x 4mil

Re-sign:
Granlund 3x6mil
Ceci 3x3.5mil
Zetterlund 4x4.5 mil
Mukhamadullin 2x1.25mil

Trade:
Ferraro, Kovalenko & 7th round pick for Eeli Tolvanen & 3rd round pick (SEA)

Smith - Celebrini - Graf
Eklund - Bennett - Zetterlund
Tolvanen - Granlund - Toffoli
Goodrow - Wennberg - Dellandrea
Grundstrom

Walman - Pionk
Mukhamadullin - Ceci
Thrun/Vlasic/Cagnoni - Liljegren
Vlasic and Thrun fight for the 3LD spot, Cagnoni 3LD as a call up.

The cap space is fine by the time Celebrini/Smith/Eklund/Askarov need a new contract.
Ceci has indicated that he wants to stay, he is known asset and with Pionk as 1RD he can play at a better spot in 2RD. I believe Granlund may find a veteran role in SJ with young stars great at this point in his career and there is chemistry.
Pionk and Bennett both see potential in SJ with Celebrini/Askarov etc. Pionk wants a better weather and a top pair role, Bennett wants a better contract and Florida sees Lundell as the future 2C.
Both bring offence + physicality which we need.

I'm not quite sure if MG or people on HFBoards see Ferraro and Kovalenko as tradeable pieces.
I just really want to move on from Ferraro since I don't see him being a Stanley Cup caliber defencemen and we need to move towards that direction. I like Kovalenko, but I'm not sure where he fits on the future Sharks team.
The trade itself could be reverted and it would not change that much.

Latest Ray and Dregs podcast just dropped. (Haven't listened yet; it's on my queue.)

Description says Sharks want to shake things up.

Edit

Nothing specific. Likens GMMG to catcher fielding balls/offers.

Skipped ahead (28:30) and it was a nothing burger. Just says SJ is fun and he thinks they're going to do something big. Doesn't say what it is, but thinks Grier is going to field offers and eventually one will be good.

Came off the back of a discussion about the D market with Florida and Carolina, but not sure I see anything happening there unless they really want Ferraro and think he's the next Gustav Forsling.

I mean what’s he gonna say? “I hate being on a bottom feeder that’s not gonna be a winner in my last few years?”

I will say the team has a kind of vibe around it right now that even when they’re losing they seem to really want to play for each other and as a group believe in the future of the team. I liked Thrun’s interview where he sings Warsofsky’s praises — I think he’s created a really positive environment.

Buys house and has a kid after negotiations start = I'm re-signing

I love it here and want to stay = it's ok here

I try not to think about it and let my agent handledit while I focus on the season = I hate it here but would stay if the money's right

We'll see what happens = this is my last season in San jose

I agree. I assume it’s more enticing an environment now than it was a couple years back, but I find these sort of “interviews” so disingenuous because rarely do we get something beyond “I love to be here. We’re building something special with this group” etc.

Something is not the best forecast and option. You may have overplayed the dynasty mode. I would definitely not offer such a contract to Pionk. Bennett is not going anywhere, Tolvanen's exchange is laughter. The most logical decisions here are to sign Zetterlund, Lilngren and Mukhamdullin. Perhaps sign Granlund if they can't be exchanged on deadline

You are probably right about the dynasty mode haha. I could see Pionk as a positive move if the term is okay. I don't think him getting at 7-7.5 is a bad bet with cap going up. He can help solidify this blue line and could be used in multiple situations. The only thing is that he probably stays in Winnipeg if they go far in the playoffs. About Bennett, he got his cup and I believe he would want to get paid at this point of his career. Florida doesn't really have a ton of cap room and Lundell should be their 2C of the future.

Seriously. They literally said "Watch the Sharks! They're fun! They'll probably do something big soon!" and called that a headline. They seemed to imply that Cody Ceci would get moved because there aren't very many decent D available at the deadline purely based on the fact that they brought up the Sharks "doing something" directly after stating "the list of defensemen you can get at the deadline is finite". But that was kinda it.

Cut a proper heel "you people" promo on the fans.

"The only good thing about being in San Jose is how fast I can get out of here, because there's nothing worse than having to play to half-dead barns of totally brain-dead losers from San Jose. My talents are wasted here and I'm destined for greater things unlike the rest of this bottom-feeder loser organization and I deserve it because I didn't have to sabotage myself just to buy a lottery ticket for success. Don't you people boo me! I'm only speaking the truth! I know it. You stupid idiots in the crowd know it. All you losers sitting on your couches at home know it. Other teams all know it.... and...... Macklin knows it. *raucous boos from the crowd* He'll wise up soon enough and then you'll be left with nothing. Yeah, you can all hate me because you know I'm right." *evil grin*

Aight the Graf-Mack-Smith line had a turrible game. Watch Wario line blend it again. What the f*** do we even do with Smith if every line we put him with struggles after like 2 games of good play

No line with smith on it has had good play, really. He's not an NHL player at this time, he is a top 6 (probably top 4) or bust player still figuring out how to play at this level.
