I'm altering the "Project Boy Band" lineup. Musty is no longer the bad boy. Askarov is the bad boy and Vlasic now gets to be "the one who's obviously way older than the rest of them." :sarcasm:
Vlasic isn't the con man entrepreneur who puts the band together and siphons off all the profits for himself while doing next to nothing?

Nah. That's Couture, because he's still the captain of this team while not having been seen publicly doing anything of note in the the last 6 months, not even showing up to promote them. Vlasic is at least on stage and seeming to contribute while pretending that he's a contemporary of the rest of the crew in a desperate mid-life crisis bid to recapture his lost youth.

Hmmm, so Vlasic is a roadie, grabbing mics and saying "check, check, 1, 2. The skeleton ran out of shampoo in the shower..."

Panthers fan asking if Jan Rutta can still play top 4 D and what his trade value is?

He's playing 17 minutes a game, down from 20 last year. Ceci and Liljegren ahead of him on right side.

Is his skating still holding up, I remember him well from the Tampa Cup runs.

He is the perfect defencemen, we love him here. High pick + prospect?
MG style.

Edit: I think a 6th round pick would be more than enough as a value.

Realistically, he's a #7-8 defenseman on a decent team at this point.

He's a handsome young man with a great mustache on top of having a delightful personality and being insanely talented. Trifecta of "things people like".

I want to talk about Will Smith really quickly. I truly think he will be a very good 2C once he gets NHL strength. I don't care about risky passes, I don't think his execution will be a problem for long. He's just a teenager in a teenager's body. Once he's able to win battles and not get knocked over all the time, he'll be just fine; this was precisely my sentiment on Hertl in 2016 as well.

Will Smith is performing as well or better than Fantilli and Carlsson by any number you want to look at. Points, on-ice metrics, shot rates, whatever. And he's a year behind them developmentally. No need to stress.
I hope that it will be so. But I wouldn't be so optimistic. In a line with a player like Celebrini, he can really be a legitimate top 6. But he will not be able to play the game as a center on his own. There is no necessary intensity, mobility and physics.

Give the kid time to grow into his body. Speed and physicality will come with muscle growth and further training. He has the skill he needs — he may need skilled guys on his line to optimize him but suggesting he’ll never be able to play center is silly at this point.

I've always pegged Smith as a winger in the NHL, but a high level one who can drive play

As he continues to progress I feel more and more comfortable with my comparable of him turning into a Mitch Marner type of player, the similarities in their playstyles are really quite striking

In a heartbeat. Everyone else we bring in is a bottom line guy but Kali may have some untapped offensive potential.

And lots of Russians on the team to help him.

I will say one factor every guy Grier brings in has is that high end motor/compete. I don’t know much about Kaliyev other than he has a lot of skill/good shot and speed, but I don’t think he has the compete thing going for him.

He doesn’t, but usually if a player has the ability it shows after they get a rude awakening such as being waived. If he doesn’t then he doesn’t.

I was thinking yesterday, after the Kovalenko intermission interview and the Askarov three stars celebration, that at least a few of the Russians on our team seem to be really fun, positive personalities. Kostin's interviews are also great. Shak seems like the quiet one of the group.

Actually, that makes me think after being in that other boy band thread...we basically have our Russian boy band. Georgiev is honorary Russian, anyway (grew up there), so yeah, there you go. He's the moody one.

So his game has fallen off a cliff since last year then?
Wouldn't hurt Florida to have some experienced depth.
It's important to remember that last year's Sharks team was historically bad. This year's team, thankfully, is not.

Rutta has been a good mentor and I hate saying anything bad about him, but these days he would feel very out of place on a team as talented and ambitious as the Panthers.

THE HARDEST PART OF TANKING IS

Hitting your, draft piiiiii-i-i-i-icks

That show was everywhere on TV here when it was new because it counted as a Canadian production for content laws (to prevent Canadian TV channels from just buying American-made content on the cheap and killing Canadian productions, it's government mandated that a certain percentage of shows on a Canadian channel has to be made in Canada by Canadian staff and stars.) and one of the band members (the young one) was from Vancouver. Then it became a big deal because he got cancer and became a big voice in advocacy and fundraising and I think died in the middle of production of the series or whatever.

Also if I'm not mistaken the random older guy is Chris Farley's brother.
