I gotta imagine after having like a decade of constant success how easy it is to just check out from pushing yourself physically and mentally when the team is so bad.

Agreed on Zetterlund. No chance I move him unless Nemec or Casey is on the table. Not only is he a great hockey player, the right age for our timeline, and Eklund's bff, but he also genuinely seems like a big culture guy, and we need that.

They want more scoring throughout the lineup and the nice thing about Granlund is he can kinda produce wherever (at least here). Maybe they see him as a high-end third line scoring threat who can also move up the lineup if guys aren’t performing. Wouldn’t be terrible idea for them.

But as we’ve all discussed, I still want Granlund signed here so I think the price has to be legit (1st rounder or one of their many D prospects).

You have to imagine that Grier is eyeing Nemec/Casey — the Devils have a surplus of defensive prospects and are kind of an ideal trading partner for us right now.

Aside from the fact that there is absolutely no chance in hell that the Devils trade Nemec or Casey for a rental, I kinda feel like if Grier was interested in Casey, he'd have chosen him over Mukh in the Meier trade.

In a vacuum, I'm sure Nemec must be worth more than Zetterlund. But Zetterlund is such a good fit for this team and seems so entrenched in all the good vibes we have going on that I'm not sure I would pull the trigger if they offered us Nemec for him straight across. Objectively, it would be the right move. But emotionally, I just don't want to move Zetterlund for anything.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nico Sturm is a target for the Devils at the deadline. He's an ideal 4C and a great locker room guy and wouldn't cost more than a 3rd. But you're right, Granlund I have to assume would be interesting to the Devils if they're trying to make a real deep playoff run; currently, they're completely screwed if either of Hughes or Hischier goes down or has a cold spell.

Nathan Bastian would be a nice player to get back in any trade with the Devils, assuming he's willing to sign an extension with us.

Yeah, they’d definitely need to add to get Nemec. I just wonder what else the Sharks could want, other than straight up picks I guess. My feeling is that Grier is so dogged in his pursuit of filling the gaps in our lineup, he’s likely looking hard for defense prospects and the Devils feel like they have a surplus there.

But yeah, obviously it’ll be very costly.

Any of these final options (kunin or bordeleau or whomever) is so miniscule that it shouldn't break the bank. I wonder if they would want someone like Graf or Cardwell?

He has a new dog too. Talked about it being the first time he has had a puppy in a while. So with Vlasic we know that is his most important motivator.

Not to say that it can't happen, but when was the last time that a Nemec-caliber prospect was traded in-season at the deadline? Because the only one I can think of was Filip Forsberg, and we all saw how that played out.

That is to say, I think the only way Nemec gets moved in-season is for a piece that NJ would consider "core", and we aren't in the business of trading away core players.

Maybe his wife was really hard to live with the last few years. I know the last 10 years of my marriage were horrible and there were days I did not feel like continuing with life anymore. Maybe the divorce being over and the ex out of the picture will bring new life to him.

I'd probably attribute the Thrun issues to just being rookie/prospect consistency things. Easy to forget that this is his first full season with the Sharks. He's also fairly limited tools wise so there's not a lot of margin for error on his reads.

I said it during the GDT but it feels like Vlasic finally came to an understanding on what it means to be old. Like the kind of reads he was making were reads you'd want from an older steady Eddie defender. And there probably was that internal conflict that he had to deal with between his tools aging away, his divorce, and the injury. Hopefully it is a guy coming out his midlife crisis for the better.

Considering Vlasic is still signed next year at 7M, let's hope you are right...
