That definitely puts a hard cap on the quality of the team next year, as beautiful as he is Wennberg doesn't belong anywhere near playing top-6 minutes on any team with hopes of being competitive on a nightly basis, he's a damn good bottom-6 center and faceoff specialist but nothing more

Unfortunately, if he won't extend before the deadline we do have to trade Granlund, but the 2C next year is either going to have to be our top-4 pick from this year, Will Smith taking a big leap or a free agency/trade acquisition if we don't want to be just as bad next year as we are right now
The team is still waiting for their young prospects to mature and take important roles on the team. That's the hard cap on the quality of the team next year. I mean, we may end up drafting Misa or Hagens if we get a Top 4 pick, but that doesn't mean the team is going to take a leap next year. If people are hoping for an impact 2C to come in free agency to a team that's still not ready to win, they're gonna be gravely disappointed.

This team's current problem is having too many centers and not enough skilled wings. That's why my Granlund replacement is a wing and not a center.

I'm not looking to take a leap, just a legitimate step forward

Our problem is absolutely not that we have too many centers, if Granlund leaves then Celebrini is the only center on the roster who can approximate quality top-6 play, we have a bunch of 4th line centers but that isn't the same thing as having actual talent at the position

We need skilled wingers, but we also need a 2C, and 2 top pair D and, and, and. . .

There's no single thing we can point to as "this team's current problem" because our problem is essentially a lack of talent at every single position

Do you think Sharks should trade Granlund or keep him? I know the team is not going to contend this year or the next but i actually think keeping Granlund and giving him like a 3 or 4 year extension could be good.

Why? Well he can play, almost a PPG again this season. Also he can play with Celebrini, they can switch roles on C and wing anytime.

Also what is the best return for him at the deadline? Is it better than keeping him with Celebrini?

This ofcourse is based on an assumption that he want's to stay in San Jose, which i think he should.

That's my opinion, who do you feel as fans of the team?

No, the cost would be too high and the Sharks need to be looking for cap dumps to acquire more picks/prospects. Too many holes still. Getting Petterson would only solve the center issue not the wing issues or the defenseman issue.
I’m not an advocate for EP but if they do end up getting first overall and take Schaf, you can theoretically have Mack as 1C and Smith as 1W.

But yeah the only way I’d take him and his salary is via a woeful underpay.

He’s looked quite… bleh over the last month or so. I’d keep him around if the trade market isn’t lucrative enough but I don’t know if I would go more than 2 years.

He should be traded. He's 32 and a pending UFA. Sharks may need to take a cap dump but that could mean a first rounder and a prospect. He appears to be the top available center for the trade deadline.

Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, NYR seem the most likely, but injuries could add more teams to the list.

Where do you want Georgiev to be? They can't just send him home and say good luck in the future, and i want nothing to do with his attitude in the Cuda locker room.
They can do whatever they want with him. It’s clear there’s no value to salvage so let me ask you, what purpose does he serve?

I think the expectation of a first is a lot to ask even with a cap dump. Getting a first and a prospect would be highway robbery.

If they get a first, it'll be from a team with a very good record and a pretty low first. We're not gonna luck into another high-mid pick like we did with the Karlsson trade. If Granlund doesn't pick up the pace soon though, we'll be lucky to get a 2nd.

I'd gladly keep the player, but only if he can be locked into a short term extension before the trade deadline

He was seen as a cap dump return in the Karlsson trade when he was acquired, if he isn't interested in staying on a deal that fits the team's long term plans they HAVE to capitalize on his value, it's found money for him to have turned himself into a positive trade asset after no one wanted him 2 years ago, it would me a missed opportunity if the front office let's him walk for no return

We've been mostly outplayed lately, but is it a surprise? We're down one of our best forwards and our clear best D, and our top scorer is in a prolonged slump.

Blame the coach all you want, the reason we're losing so many games recently is a hard schedule and injuries to some of our best players, when we had a bottom 5 lineup to start with. The margin of error is thin.

Grier traded for Georgiev fully knowing his issues. The only reason you get him is to tank the team

From what I've seen so far, I don't believe Georgiev's issues to be fixable in any way. He's going through what many people call the "yips" in sports, or the term given to an athlete that suddenly and inexplicably loses their ability to perform, often unrelated to injuries. We saw Martin Jones go through something similar from mid-2017 on.
