So a clear top 9 forward scoring pace and tied for 132nd in goals? Not bad for a guy who gets no power play time. What were you expecting? Kucherov numbers?

30 points is easily top 9 production in "today's league" without even accounting for Kunin's lack of PP time and low overall minute totals. He's one of our most used penalty killers so to say he provides nothing on the defensive end is false. Also 3rd on the team in hits and can drop the gloves...$2.75M is a downright bargain for what Kunin is providing this season. He's clearly better than the low end 4th liner you constantly claimed he was.
Woah, look out, Kunin's putting up big boy stats

There's always a whipping boy based on irrationality during each era.

Kunin is just the latest iteration. There will be another after he is gone.

A clear top 9 scoring pace on a bad team. On a deeper team like Vegas or Carolina it's middle of the pack bottom line. Point is he's a replaceable player, but using his meager offense as his selling point instead of the fact he's just a solid bottom line physical presence isn't how you maximize his trade value.

Don't forget, the coach also always sucks and is ruining every prospect and the power play.

(This year, might be true about the power play).
The PP was always going to be bad this year because you're incorporating 2 very young kids into the top units that, as good as they are, haven't yet developed an understanding that being skilled isn't everything.

Glad Grier seems to be involved. I’m a little worried at how much Jiricek is going to cost but I guess it also depends on what the Jackets are looking for. Roster players we don’t really have anything worthwhile (unless they value Ferraro highly or something), prospects we have aplenty but yeah, what are their needs?

I don’t super want to get into a bidding war and mortgage the future for someone I do really want but who has a lot of red flags.
My hope would be that they've managed to depress his trade value similar to what happened with Askarov. The appeal to me is that he's got two things we don't have in our defensive corps at all - size and offensive skill from the right side. Obviously he's got some downside or he wouldn't be available at all, but given that we still need to be adding elite talent through the draft, this is a perfect situation for him to make mistakes, improve his conditioning and skating, and develop his game at the NHL level. Of course, Columbus should be in the same boat as us, but for some reason they'd rather play bums over developing this kid in the NHL.

Sans a second round pick or someone else's first round pick though, this is gonna be a tough trade to pull off and give Columbus what they perceive to be adequate compensation for giving up on a #6 draft pick.

How about Smith for Jiricek? No other team is beating that offer. I'd do it if I was convinced Smith projects as a winger long term.

lol that’s enough internet for you today
Musty + picks probably isn't getting it done. It's fundamentally irrational to be attached to Smith just because we happened to draft him. If trading him for a 21-year-old 6'4 RHD who has already proven he can dominate the AHL brings us closer to a Cup in the long run we should do it.

Dickinson-Jiricek could be a nasty top pair in 5 years.

I'm pretty sure Jiricek has negative value if he can't crack the lowly CBJ blue line and has him on the block.
I'm worried that in a league that is more and more prioritizing speed and agility, Jiricek's skating issues will be a big deal. Acquiring him would feel like a "rush the rebuild" type move.

Maybe if Smith were on the same trajectory as Jiricek, as in, 2-3 years in and not looking as sure fire as he was when drafted.

A down on their luck former top prospect swap might very well make sense, but it's not yet time to give up on Smith for a prospect that very well might be on the way to busting. If Smith hasn't cracked 40 points in 3 years, that's the territory we'll be in.

The risk is that if Smith hasn't cracked 40 points in 3 years and doesn't look like a NHL center, we're probably not getting someone with anywhere near Jiricek's ceiling and remaining developmental runway in return.

I'd prefer to get it done with quantity. Something like Musty, Mukhamadullin and our 2025 2nd but other teams can beat that offer pretty easily.

Liked Jiricek quite a bit in his draft year. I'd be very interested, however, I wouldn't give up Dickinson, Will, Eklund or either of our next two firsts. 2nd and one of Musty, Bystedt, Cherny, or Muk? Yes, I think so, even though his skating scares me a bit. Provided he's open to being in the AHL until we move Rutta/Ceci at the deadline.

Still want Schaefer. What a future top 4 Schaefer/Dickinson/Jiricek/Cagnoni could be! I think Big Money Mike gets outspent here. However, getting a very good young RHD with excellent size would really add some balance to the prospect pool. However, with Dickinson's play and Jiricek, there'd be a bit more leeway to take Misa, Martone, or Hagens if you felt they were better than Schaefer (or someone else scooped him).

San Jose, Buffalo, and Minnesota all have a lot of luxury guys that are really good prospects. I can't see Buium, Yurov, Dickinson types getting moved, but Heidt, Ohgren, Helenius, Musty/Bystedt, I can certainly see. Pens offer has to be Brunicke or McGroaty. Not sure about Philly. Seems like there's a lot of smoke here for this to not get done relatively soon.

thats probably roughly the value they are going to get for a dman trending in the wrong direction.
If so I really hope Grier is in on this. Hopefully Columbus scouts aren't paying close attention and overvalue Musty due to his point totals.

Yeah Jiricek might be entering Jeff Jillison/Ty Wishart territory

He's 7th on Wheeler's under 23 list of RHD, broken out by the respective tiers. If he we're on of the first six, I'd move quite a bit more. Faber looks awfully out of place in the third grouping, but I digress.

1. Levshunov (Elite/all-star); Left D in this tier: Luke Hughes

2. Yakemchuk (all-star); Left D in this tier: Silayev, Sanderson, and Buium

3. Parekh (top of lineup) Left D in this tier: Mintyukov, Dickinson, Simashev
4. Faber (top of line-up)

5. Nemec (Bubble middle/top of line-up); Left D in this tier: Solberg, Korchinski, Edvinson, Guhle, Lamourouex
6. Clark (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
7. D. Jiricek (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
8. Schneider (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
9. Axel-Sandin Pellika (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
10. Jaime Drysdale (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
11. Reinbacher (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
12. Bonk (Bubble middle/top of line-up)
13. A. Jiricek (Bubble middle/top of line-up)

14. Willander (middle of line-up); Left D in this tier: Hutson, Sahlin-Wallenius, Muk, Pickering, Shuravin, Molendyk, Mateychuk, Bischel, Gulayev
15. Elick (middle of line-up)
16. Badinka (middle of line-up)
17. Luneau (middle of line-up)
18. Rinzel (middle of line-up)
19. Kleber (middle of line-up)
20. Emery (middle of line-up)
21. Barron (middle of line-up)
22. Mailloux (middle of line-up)
23. Iorio (middle of line-up)
