Preds traded Philip Tomasino to the Penguins for a 4th in 2027.

I would've had time for that. Yeah he's a lottery ticket but it's not like this forward group is flush with guys with cemented spots. Of course it comes with the standard caveat that it's possible he wasn't fully shopped or that the Preds would've asked for something different of more value to the Sharks.

I also remember a lot of the pundits claiming Yakemchuk would be the last of the big 6 D drafted.
Even moreso than the Sennecke pick, that was the one that shocked me the most in the draft. The Ottawa fans were pretty happy with his preseason performance though and some on hfboards were hoping he'd stay with the big club.

My big lesson from this year's draft was how highly prized right-handed defensemen with offensive skill are.

Had to check to see if Tomasino had ever played for the Vancouver Giants before I knew how seriously to take this post. ;)

I'd have preferred Tomasino to Dellandrea, but they're both fringe guys so it's whatever.

Supposedly Jiricek is very close to being traded. Wouldn’t be surprised if we were in the mix; seems similar to the other moves Grier has made thus far.
Maybe that's why Thompson got sent down.

No one was more shocked than Sennecke himself.

Small soft winger who has gotten steadily worse every year since making his NHL debut and wasn't that great of a prospect to begin with. What am I missing here? Why would we give up a draft pick for an older version of Gushchin/Graf?

I kinda agree. I feel like we already have a lot of these guys in the system. Guys with high expectations that didn't meet them.

On one hand, it very much feels like a Griersy trade. And we have the pieces. But with Askarov and Liljegren, we were heavily mentioned in rumors before a deal went down.

Just theoretically, I'd do something like Musty/2nd, Mukhamadullin/2nd, or Bystedt straight up, although I'd really really like to not move Bystedt. Obviously Celebrini/Smith/Dickinson/Askarov off limits. I low-key prefer Cagnoni at this point.

If Grier seriously went after Jiricek, it would have to be because he believed in his upside as a very good top-4 D and believed in his character and developmental path. I wouldn't be wildly surprised if one of those things was a red flag of sorts for Grier.

I really, really liked Jiricek in his draft year. But he definitely hasn't made any real steps since then, so while the idea of getting him is intriguing, I kinda don't feel like he's a Can't Miss guy the way Askarov was.

We're past the stage of the rebuild when you take chances on Zadina types like this.
For the right price and the right guy, I'd take a swing at another NHL ready left winger. We need more skill to pair with Celebrini and Smith, especially if we're dead set on having Wennberg and Toffoli be a thing. Nobody that would screw up the tank too much, but give them more better quality scoring chances.

If we do that it should be for an established NHL top six forward not a lottery ticket like Tomasino.

If we actually had a good left winger, we wouldn't be in position to have a Top 4 pick, which I think is more important. I want somebody who's clearly a better option than Barclay Goodrow, but isn't too good.

With our blue line still sporting the likes of Ceci, Ferraro, and Rutta in half the playing spots and seemingly about to add Vlasic in Thrun’s spot, we’re guaranteed top four even if McDavid was that winger.

If they could play all three D men at the same time, we can call it "Frutti"

Nah, we'd be outside the bottom 5 with McDavid on the roster. We're already teetering on the edges of having too much success so far.

Every 8 goal game drives the price up by a round.

We’re having a run that won’t sustain itself and will get worse going from Thrun to Vlasic. We’re pretty much healthy when most guys we have aren’t reliable 82 game players and will be selling soon. We’re not going to play at this competitive level for the rest of the year either. Play will fall here and there for weeks at a time. Just show patience and you’ll see.

We really aren't

We've beaten one playoff team and it took an own goal in a 44 save shutout to do so

We are comfortably among the worst teams in hockey, arguable the single worst, McDavid would make this a better team but he wouldn't lift us out of the basement by himself

It really feels like a Grier move and it’s so rare to have a high ceiling super duper young RD available that yeah, you have to imagine he’s all over it unless the character issues seem unfixable (but at 20 you gotta think most issues aren’t unfixable?)

I think it ultimately depends on the price. I wouldn’t want to trade Bystedt, I think he’s part of the long-term future here and I’d be eh on trading Muhk… I think a 2nd/Musty makes a lot of sense. But yeah, curious how hard other teams are going for him.

Jiricek definitely fits a need and I wouldn't be against getting him, but id be worried about giving up to much, a lot of my issues with him in his draft year have mostly followed him to the pros and he very well may never live up to the draft position. Maybe something like rutta, cardwell and our 2nd this year. I feel thats very easily beat by another team. Frankly I'm higher on muhk bystedt musty and cags at this point.

Kunin on pace for 17G 30P despite playing less than 15 minutes per game and no PP time. I thought he sucked and there was no way recovery from his ACL surgery hampered his performance last season?

If he keeps this up we're getting a decent pick for him at the deadline. I hope we extend him though.
