Interested what would Blackwood to Colorado package return. They are in a tough spot in a way that they really don't have a decent starter but are a playoff team. That means Sharks could command a hefty return, if Col gets desperate.

I have one trade in mind that would make sense on paper, but wouldn't make sense with what we are building probably.

Blackwood + Ferraro for Girard + 2nd round pick (or 1st round pick, you never know)

Blackwood 1A goalie, Ferraro takes Girard spot on 2LD. (They already have Makar and Toews taking care of the PP, Ferraro can be a penalty killer)

Girard, undersized defencemen similar to Cagnoni but would by far be out best PP defencemen. He has played his offside to my knowledge, but I could be wrong.
Late 2nd round pick.
Why trade for Girard when we have Cagnoni already dominating the AHL? Less than no interest in him just to block Luca.

The guys I'd move right now is Blackwood, Ferraro, and Kunin. Granlund should stay until the trade deadline unless someone is offering a 1st. Sturm and Ceci should be kept until the deadline and then take what they can for them. I'd much rather set the blue line up to where Walman is playing with Liljegren, Mukhamadullin plays with Thompson, and Cagnoni plays with Thrun or Vlasic if they haven't bought him out for next season. Could swap some of those pairings around if you'd want Liljegren with Mukhamadullin and Thompson with Walman to have a vet with someone with little experience.

Rangers fans on the main board seemed to like my proposal of our '25 2nd, Ferraro and either Musty or Bystedt for K'Andre Miller and Jacob Trouba.

Do that, extend Granlund and Ceci, trade Blackwood, Sturm, Kunin, Rutta for whatever they can fetch at the deadline and we could start next season with this:

Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli
Granlund-Smith-Zetterlund
Goodrow-Wennberg-Graf
Grundstrom-Bystedt-Dellandrea
Cardwell

Walman-Trouba
Miller-Liljegren
Mukhamadullin-Ceci
Thrun-Thompson

Askarov
Vanecek

Still a very bad team but the defense isn't as embarrassing and more importantly should give Askarov a fighting chance in hopefully his first full season as our #1.

Then Schaefer (if we're lucky enough to draft him) and Dickinson come in for Walman and Trouba in 2026-27. Reinvest Wennberg's $5M into a legit top six forward and we might have a chance to steal a wild card spot in the final year of Mack and Smith's ELCs.

If I had to guess, Grier has been talking Jiricek with Columbus all year. Just seems like a Grier move.

I'd be really interested in this one personally. He's been jerked around unfortunately by CBJ. What's the hypothetical package?

Surely his value is less than Smith
less than Dickinson
less than our unprotected 1st in '25/'26/'27
Askarov is untouchable

more than Musty and probably any other young player we have

is it simply Q Musty + 2nd or something of the sort?

I think it would definitely cost more than this. If Jiricek was available there would be plenty of teams interested. Probably costs something like Musty + 2nd round pick + one of Zetterlund/Mukh/maybe Thompson? Maybe it's as simple as Eklund for Jiricek

Anyone else been able to simply forget about MEV?
Yes. Except yesterday I realized the guy is over double the age of Celebrini and was drafted before 71 was born.

The best chance of getting Jiricek would be if the Sharks were to land the 1OA again and Columbus wanting to move up to get it. I'd imagine we'd have to add to it. How much if anything depending on where Columbus end up.

I wonder if Winnipeg might be a team to be interested in Granlund at the deadline. They're doing so well even with Namestnikov as their 2C, but how sustainable is that?

The only worry is that they (and maybe every other team out there) might not be willing to part with the kinds of picks/prospects that would make trading Granlund feel worthwhile for Grier.

I agree, that's why I put that it only looks good on paper with Girard being clearly the best offensive defencemen. But since we have the exact player on AHL it's probably not the best move Sharks wise.
Maybe a Blackwood + Ferraro for 1st and 2nd round pick would help more.

RHD that should be available this summer
  • Trouba (would he waive? If not are we first waiver option)
  • Borgen- yes please
  • Brent Burns- yes please, but I think Carolina re-signs him
  • Ceci
  • Jokiharju- meh
  • Fabbro- we just declined with him on waivers; think he's too similar to existing RHD options, though I'd have taken him.
  • Savard- meh, 35, and declining
RHD that may be available this summer:
  • Ekblad- I think he re-signs in Florida
  • Gavrikov- LHD, but plays right side; Kings rumoured to re-sign
  • Ristolainen- Rumoured to be available, has one more year, but pretty meh.
RHD that could be traded:
  • Dobson- more than we can afford, I'd consider it after next year, but not this summer
  • Jiricek- very much feels like a Grier move, would likely be quite expensive. They'd want a premium position, they're good on wings.
  • Anderson/Weegar- If CGY decides to tank for the local boy, would also cost major assets. If Anderson hits UFA in 2026 however, I'd pursue aggressively
When combining certainty of ability, term that is unlikely to burn the team as they approach their contending window, and fit (size, physicality, not a disaster in possession), I'd rank them Borgen, Trouba, and Ceci. Given we could probably use two of those guys, I'd probably re-sign Ceci (for up to 3 years), and hope Trouba comes available as well. Grier will know all about what's happening with Trouba, as NYR must get out of that contract.
