I don't know where else to put this, but please God, don't let Erik Johnson leave. He is Colorado DNA. You couldn't get a better bottom pair leader, who bleeds our colours. He is our EJ. Pleeeaaaaase.

I'll say this, there's absolutely no excuse for CMac if he doesn't come out of the next couple weeks with a legit 2C in the fold.

There's a ridiculous abundance of 2Cs available right now. Even more then last summer.

If they don't get a good 2C for next year, I'm officially jumping on the can CMac train.
CMac has to strike first... And heck he has to strike hard and show no mercy

Haha, I'm gonna have faith mate that he stays. I want all our boys re-upped. EJ, Rodrigues, Newhook, JT. All fit and firing we are the strongest team in the NHL. It's as simple as that. Completely decimated with injuries, we literally finished 7th overall.

I honestly believe it's guys like EJ's leadership in the locker room that drives our beast mode culture.

I've kind of stopped keeping track of the NHL after the Avs lost in R1 and lost even more interest when Vegas won the cup. But, who are the best 2Cs that are available right now?

Not buying that for a second lol. There have been rumours going on for years about Wheelers poor leadership. It caused Big Buff to quit, it drove Laine out of town etc. Then you see how he was stripped of the captaincy last year as well, now it seems they are going towards a buyout.

Ok, maybe the personal relationship between Wheeler and Chevy is fine. That's not what matters Andy.

You're honestly giving up on a smaller 21-22 year old kid that scored 30 something points on a team where he had different linemates almost every other night during the season proper?

Kid has wheels. He has fight. He has tenacity. He is a Stanley Cup winner. He's improved every year (like I said JT would this year).

You should look at someone like Marty St Louis early years stats, before we so easily throw away this absolute gold star talent.

Secondly, JT's production is what 50-60 odd points this season? Pretty sure he has a healthy plus / minus too. We'll just have to disagree on that one.

I think people are way too harsh. Don't give up in them mate, they'll surprise you next season with some added depth and more consistency (and touch wood) - WAY less injuries through the team

Elias Lindholm
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Mikael Backlund

Those 3 are seemingly 100% going to be moved. Beyond those three you've got a bunch of guys that aren't as certain to be traded but do seem to at least be somewhat available, including:

Mark Scheifele
JT Miller
Kevin Hayes
Scott Laughton(Though a better 3C)
Evgeny Kuznetsov
Casey Mittelstadt
Jack Roslovic

Beyond that, there's a few wildcard names as well that at least IMO could be surprise trades. Those being Brock Nelson, Anton Lundell, Logan Couture, Nazem Kadri, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Sam Bennett, and Thomas Hertl.

Some of those guys I hope the Avs stay away from. But in general there's a lot of Centers available. Avs simply need to grab a good one.

Silly tweet. Where does that measure leadership, comradery, rallying the troops (particularly given our inspirational.leader was injured all season).

He adds way more than just those silly metrics he's used to attempt to sully our Stanley cup champion..

Some of you guys are weird...

"We can't afford to re-up any of Lindholm or Dubois if we do trade for them..."

We absolutely CAN re-up Lindholm or Dubois should the Avs decide to go that route. Lindholm is the very best target because his salary would count for $4.85M against the cap this upcoming year and his extension would only count towards next year's cap. That's HUGE for the Avs if they want to get back to competing for the Cup starting next season. Dubois, we can also do but we'd need to re-up him right away and that's going to be around $8M counting against the cap right away making it much harder to round out a solid roster.

"We have to bring back Kadri / we could have re-signed Kadri last summer..."

Kadri's deal being 7 years long and him signing it at age 31 is and always was the issue and it's STILL the issue. Even if the Flames retain, the Avs won't want to go there - he's going to be 33 this october going into his 2nd season of that deal. He isn't coming back to the Avs... it ain't happening (nor should it).

"Oh no we have to bring back EJ..."

Like I said a bunch of times, EJ was always going to command $2M - $3M on a new contract... even if some schmuck gives it to him based strictly on reputation. That kind of thing doesn't happen you say? It did when we signed Brad Stuart - remember. :(
Erik Johnson is likely signing a 2 year contract with 'some' team for the amount I suggested above.... could be even more.

Newhook is 22 and took a step backward this year, imo. I don't know how much improvement/potential could be left in him on *this* team.

He hasn't worked out at C, and he gets worked off the puck too much at wing. What was once thought to be a separating skill--his skating--just isn't that at the NHL level.

If you're solely stat-watching as a basis for "improving every year", then one could reasonably argue that he did not, in fact, improve in his 2nd year vs. his 1st: 30pts this year vs. 33 last.

On the subject of JTC--I think he's fine, but he almost always ends up in a spot that he's not suited for on this team. We saw the Avs try and force JTC and Tyson Jost to be the 2C before they got Kadri, and then we saw them trot out JTC and Newhook this last year and the results were the same--playoff failure. What happened after the Trade Deadline when CMac didn't get an actual 2C? JTC disappeared, like many around here thought he would.

Compher hit a career high in points--52--at the best time, because he's going to cash in and good for him, I'm just glad it won't be with us.

I'll forever be grateful for what the entire team did in 2022, but I'm fine with moving on from Newhook (I hope he is traded this offseason) and JTC.

And he's worth it, honestly. A teams motivator and leader is very hard to replace. We shouldn't devalue what value he adds to the culture of this place. He has a right to go out on his own terms, and we should accommodate him.
