Love the gritty comment by Sakic. Addition by subtraction by getting rid of Malgin and Newhook from our butter soft bottom six. Nothing was more frustrating in the playoffs then watching our bottom six not producing any offense but also folding at any semblance of physical contact.

Sounds similar to what Sakic did after the lost series Vs Sharks. More depth, grit etc. And then in few years we won.

Same problems now. We lacked depth and grit/speed/quickness. Imo.

Girard is next on the list. His playoff resume is very questionable. I think he will have the Barrie faith. Newhook is the Kerfoot.

When you put it together it's very similar story!

They will try to trade for someone bad ass like Kadri. Winger.

The Avs bottom-6 was pretty soft last year. I think Sakic’s ‘grit’ comments are on point and likely directed at that group.

Colorado is pretty unique in that a lot of their top guys play a hard game, but the depth doesn’t. A lot of teams have the opposite.

Colton was an excellent start and it’s one of the reasons I’d prefer him to centre the 3rd line, instead of playing wing in the top-6. He’ll bring an actual identity to that line.

I like Hathaway as a 4th line target as others have suggested, but I think he might be out of the Avs price range for that position. He’s going to have a market because of how physical he is.

Sakic said they want to get grittier and they are gonna try to get UFAs to fill the roster. Wonder who they’ll go for.

Still need a 6th D
Top 6 winger
2 or 3 bottom 6 forwards including a 4C

If we end up making a "splash" for any of the bigger name UFAs, Jason Zucker seems like a fantastic fit depending on the cost. He has ties to the area obviously and is another hard nosed shoot first player that can be moved up and down the lineup. He would produce with Mackinnon on the top line and be a luxury on the third line with Colton. Just need Cmac to convince him to come back to the Denver area.

We’re getting rid of Malgin? Not doubting you’re correct, but didn’t hear that.
They do need to get rid of players who did absolutely nothing in the playoffs. I mean if they’re not gonna produce in the playoffs, what’s the point. Guys like JTC, Malgin, Nieto, Eller who are the UFAs should not be brought back. Won’t mind ERod coming back on a cheap price, also if Cogs is healthy, won’t mind him back either

Yeah. I wouldn't mind them spending a bit more to focus on 4C as well. Especially since Meyers can start our as the 4LW instead.

Spend $1.5M to get Acciari or $1M to get Bonino. Then you're set down the middle and if RyJo bounces back to being a legit 60 point 2C, it actually becomes a pretty good strength for this team.

How did he shit the bed on draft night?

He drafted a Dman many think could be the best D in the entire draft class, with the 31st pick lol.

You can argue about preferring he traded those picks, but literally not one single trade happened so its not like he flat out missed on a bunch of deals.

Instead he took a "somewhat" safe pick and grabbed a big right shot Center, and then swung for the fences big time with the most skilled Dman in the draft. From a drafting standpoint they did a great job.
For record I like the draft picks themselves, they seem like great choices, 3-4 years from now.

He shit the bed because he didn't help the team today.

It's incredibly frustrating to have 2 1sts and not walk away with a quality roster player that can help tomorrow.

We don't really have the luxury to wait 3-4 years for those guys we drafted to help us. I understand they can be traded etc.

I would love to hear what CMac would say off the record, instead of PC land. I can almost guarantee he wasn't thrilled about using both those picks.

To be honest, I am more happy with the picks now. At least we went for the upside with these picks. Don't mind them.

They can be traded later if needed.

I think he goes back to breaking even if finds a solid return for Girard
Once again Girard is proving to be the big elephant in the room.

I just don't see how you can keep paying him 5M with the holes up front. But for some reason CMac and co. seem hell bent on keeping Girard.

It's making it very difficult to assemble a deep enough forward group.

I think Malgin will be back as our 6F. I don't love it but I think it's realistic.

I would absolutely love it if this is the year we get Kovalenko to give the NHL a shot.

I mean I like the guys they went with, high upside on both guys. But I didn't like using both picks as it doesn't help us tomorrow.

I mean realistically speaking they probably don't even get traded for at least a full year, we probabably look to trade guys like Beherns or OO first. So they really aren't even trade bait at this point.

Kovalenko would be awesome, but it's not happening.

As I understand it, there’s no chance before his contract ends in April-ish of next year (2024). So he remains to be a potential option at the end of this upcoming season

That contract can't be bought out? Maybe KSE wouldn't got for it or the price is crazy, but that's how international football transfers work.

Not bitching about CMac today, just calling a spade a spade. Good start to the offseason for him, then a not so great draft day, now CMac has a lot of work cut out to get this team to where it needs to be to be competitive.

The praise for CMac around here after 2 moves was insane, it was a good start. That's it. He is still 3 moves away from a good summer. Hopefully makes them.
Fair enough. I mean, you make two good moves, you get praised for those moves. Literally no one made trades at the draft, so clearly the market wasn't there at that point. I can't blame them for making picks. They obviously need about three free agents, but free agency hasn't even opened.

He will sign a 19 year contract extension.
At rifle point, of course.

What's wrong with Wheeler? That bad for a buyout?

Still looked quite effective and productive whenever I saw him last season.

You also can't teach 6'5", 225 pounds, and the body/puck control he displays on the cycle and zone entry.
