Lohrei shouldn't sign a lease to an apartment just yet but Motel 6 will leave the light on for him in the meantime. Poitras once again makes the grade with high honors, one of the smartest in the class on ice. Flyers goal in the 3rd to tie it was like a Monday night at Foxwoods, nobody was playing the slot.
When the player comes down in the shootout and does the slow motion lateral drag move I wish some goalie would just rush out go all Timmy on him.

I am surprised you did not say all Cheevers. lol That, however, is not what you meant.

Two goalies is great for the regular season, but it’s a negative when you get to the postseason, the platoon stops, and have millions of dollars with of cap tied to a goalie who is sitting on the bench that could be used on an every day player.
I mean I get that... but why? Bruins success hinged on them platooning. Neither of them were playing as workhorses. Shouldn't have changed the system that worked, and that boned us bad in the playoffs (among other things, but definitely partly that)

It's interesting that Ottawa still hasn't signed Pinto for lack of $. I don't think we'll be the fit. But someone will.
When does the off-season cap buffer end?

Could another team wait til the season starts then offsheet him to a deal that Ottawa can't financially match without going over cap?

(Obviously not the Bruins) but another team with space could pay a little bit (even a 2nd comp wouldn't be in Ottawa's price range to stay compliant)

I noticed during last nights game how STRONG Lohrei is for his age, significantly stronger than Carlo at comparable ages. He wasn't being bounced off the puck of shy'd away from the corners. IMO keep him, pair him with Carlo and let him rip/learn and grow his game, Montgomery is the perfect coach for him!

This would make Forbort expendable, if we're competitive at the trade deadline we can always find another Forbort.

Super Impressed with Poitras's poise, but I'm terrified of him making the roster too early when you have buffoons like Tom Wilson, Gudas always trying to make a statement dirty hit. Even though Poitras seems to have decent core strenght, winning board battles, I noticed after those battles he was pretty gassed. I wish we could assign him to providence because I believe he has nothing to learn from the OHL... delimma delimma.....

Fwiw, dressing Lohrei and waiving/burying anyone making more the 1.1M would be a savings of 175k, not a whole lot, but Bruins pennypinching, if they are almost certain Forbort isn't getting claimed anyways, waiving him early season may be the easy way to clear him to get an extra look at Lohrei (or any other players)

Forbort + prospect for a 7th pick? You think there would be any takers?

Ain’t happening- and I would pass

Ullmark 0.0 waiving and RNH took discount to stay

Bruins best goalie situation in league I’m keeping

I like RNH don’t love - plays with 2 all time players

Hard pass
Edmonton just needs a goalie. Bruins need a centre. Maybe Ullmark thinks they can win a cup (they can)

Hopkins centres the third line in edm.
I don't think anyone wins or loses a job based on a preseason game or 2. We've gone from "Morgan Geekie's pts/60 last year suggests he can be a #2C this year" to "Geekie sucks, Poitras is Patrice Bergeron 2.0". (not saying you said these things, just things that have been said).

If we go by a couple preseason games, Mackie Samoskevich, Roby Jarventie and Josh Doan are going to be fighting it out for both the Calder and Hart. But in reality all (or at least Jarventie and Doan) will be starting the season in the AHL. GMs and teams aren't as reactionary to a couple of practice games.

I think this is the comparable. And I do think poitras has high end passing. His ability to find and create lanes is why I want him on the roster this year. Even if he only plays 40 games. How many games did seguin play his first season?

If Poitras was to make it what about this

Marchand Zacha Pasta
JVR Poitras Debrusk
Frederic Coyle Geekie
Lucic Beecher Lauko
Boqvist or Heinen

Brown and Greer to AHL if not claimed.

I would like Freddy on the right but this worked this way and I think Poitras would need to be with some proven guys to have some success.

Forbort is not the left D on an expiring contract that they should be moving . This D does not need to get softer
Flyers seem to have a bunch of guys back there throwing hits on every shift. Bruins don't have guys like that other than Charlie who I don't want to rely on doing that.

Need some more sandpaper back there in my view.

For a team that literally can't dress a 23 man roster right now..., his contract is certainly on the top of ones to jettison to make space though.

At a million less, it wouldn't be an issue, but at 3M, certainly not the best use of that space.

100% this. Paying a third pair PK specialist (who isn't particularly good at 5v5) 3 mil is a bad use of space when we're as close to the cap ceiling as we are.

So what can Lorhei learn better by playing in the AHL vs playing with Carlo and starting with the Krug treatment and slowly leveling up? And what do you gain by having Lorhei in the lineup today? And what do you lose by having Lorhei in the lineup today?

I keep coming back to who he would replace in the lineup.

If he takes Forbort’s job, you are gonna need Lindholm to play PK1 and eat a lot of pucks. A Lindholm you have signed for a lot of years into the wrong side of 30. That being said, we aren’t clutching pearls about McAvoy or Carlo playing PK.

If he replaces Gryz, I don’t think the team is any better and is probably worse in the short run. The fancy moves we see Lorhei make, Gryz makes with ease and better. In the long run Lorhei has the size and offensive IQ to lap Gryz one day, but we ain’t there, yet. Even if we talk just the playoffs, it might surprise people, but in terms of actual GF%, nig Corsi or expected or whatever, McAvoy has better stats with Gryz than with Lindholm, Orlov, or even Chara in the playoffs. (Gryz numbers get tanked by his time with Carlo in the playoffs).

So my question is how much PK time did Lorhei play at Ohio State? Would he benefit from playing all situations in the AHL for half a season before kicking Forbort out of the lineup?

I agree with you on his contract , but we have another LD equally over paid. making more and cap space is valuable. Just think as the Bruins are presently structured on D they have more players to fill the Void of loosing 48 . Then they have to fill the void of loosing Forbort. Zoboril is the easiest to replace but not a lot of cap relief

I really don't see this as a huge issue tbh. Lindholm had a few seasons where he logged HUGE minutes for the Ducks on the PK, including one where he averaged 3:11 a game which is more PK time than Forbort has ever averaged.

Lindholm was the 6th overall pick, had played D for awhile and played 44 games in the AHL first.

OK? The part of the post I was responding to was about Lindholm having to play PK1 minutes if we move Forbort and I was pointing out that he's done that before. Not sure what his draft positon has to do with anything.

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about Lohrei playing PK1 since Lindholm had done it at a young age. Yes, Lindholm could totally handle it .

Ya I don’t know why they haven’t platooned in the playoffs. Extremely rare throughout nhl history for teams to platoon goalies in the playoffs if one of the goalies is winning playoff games. Usually only switch if one is playing poorly and that’s the way it’s always been.

It’s a great method to win presidents trophies but not to win in the postseason just due to the cap implications.

I’m inclined to agree, just trying to think out the other side. I was just super impressed watching live yesterday and trying to ask myself “why not?”. Like how much better would he have to be right now for the answer to only be “yes”? I think if he keeps doing what he is doing as more cuts come and more of these rosters are NHLers it’s a no brainer.

RNH obviously skilled and low key good defensively & good at faceoffs. Bruins fans who don't watch any games will see he had 100+ points last year and assume he's the answer, but literally more than half of his points were on the powerplay and getting to play with 2 freaks of nature.

In Boston he probably puts up Zacha numbers. I wouldn't hate him, but I think the Bruins will have better options. Plus I would give it 2.5 periods into his Bruins career before dummies are calling him soft.
