Wonder if there was ever a fan base that so actively wanted to trade their Vezina winning goalie the year after he had won it?

Probably Marc-Andre Fleury?

How many vezina winners have also been arguably the worst playoff goalie in the league during that time as well?

I don't believe it is a matter of the fans wanting to move on from him has much as it is they realize this team needs cap space and they have goalie depth , by moving Ullmark you can go forward addressing other needs ,

I could see that in a case like trading Erik Karlsson, Norris trophy winner. But San Jose sucked with him and he's making $10 mil a year for a few more years.

Ullmaks's only making half that for 2 more years, Boston was exceptionally good last season and he had the best regular season in goal in memory. Seems they could make cap room somewhere else without impacting the team as much.

Correct. And he’ll get one.
No offense but you have no clue ..............
If I assume $87.5M for cap next year (on the low end of estimates), and sign Debrusk and Swayman to 7x$7M deals, without trading Ullmark I’m at $11.88M in space for LW2, LW4, 13F, 3LD, 3RD, and 7D. If you plug two ELC in that, you’re at around $10M. If you trade Ullmark and don’t take cap back, you’re at $14M and change.

What part of this tells you I have no clue?

So we will have 12 mil tied up in goaltending , and I am not putting a knock the centers but that is what you want to with ?????

Who the hell are you to say that , you have insider information............

I think he just means that at this point in the season it’s incredibly rare to make a goalie trade like that and the only logical time would be next offseason.

I like Swayman but he’s had one year. Let’s hope he repeats, but second year goalies have been know to struggle.

Pekka Rinne. Sergei Bobrovsky. Connor Hellbuyck.

And none of them were injuried.

At least rinne and hellbuyck were able to have above .900 save percentages in their vezina year. Hellbuyck one year below .900 this most recent year and the jets tried to trade him.

Bob was shipped out in short order too after his vezina because of playoff performance.

Also there’s no proof Ullmark was actually injured. But if you want to perpetuate that myth. He was equally as garbage the year before unless you are saying he was injured that playoff run too

I did not say it was going to be done today ,I said if the opportunities is there it should be considered , I know all trades are tough to do make with most teams are tight to the cap , which makes it tough to deal any position ...............but he is talking signing Swayman for 7 mil and keep Ullmark , 12mil in goaltending head scratcher .......................Everyone on this site is screaming for a 1C ,Lindholm ,Scehfiele and others .............I hope they don't go after them but to do that you have to make moves........

I knew they were tight against the cap….but they are really tight!

Here’s one possibility…

In a lineup like this I believe that Forbort has a buried cost against the cap in Providence. Does capgeek account for that or does it assume he was traded.

You‘re probably right. I don’t know all the cap implications and quirks.

Just wanted to get a look at things in a big picture kind of way.

All I know is that there are a couple of really cheap guys on that roster

Lohrei, Brown, Beecher for instance, who would be tough to replace because their cap hit is so low.

This is why I don't see Chiasson or Heinen making it.

First, who will they replace?

Second, will they sign for under a million?

‘burying Forbort’ doesnt work. You can only save 1.1 against the Cap. Still need to eat/ account for his balance of 1.9 against the Cap.

Scary.

Pretty much means 4-6 guys that make less than a million need to make the team.

I think they would sign for minimum if given the opportunity. Not many guys that would be exposed; Lauko and Greer and an outside chance at JVR or Boquist being let go.

Maybe.

Wonder if someone else would offer them more too?

I mean neither guy had made a ton, for an NHL player.

You’d wonder if they’d take another offer if it were half a million or so higher?

Yes I would if I were them. But I just assumed every pto player signed for the minimum with the first team that puts it on the table with rare exceptions.

Makes sense.

I mean, they did choose to come here with no guarantee, and I’m sure their agents had an idea about what they might be offered, so that probably speaks to their willingness to stick around.

This is what I'm feelin' after 2.75 preseason games. Combo of what I think will happen and what I want to happen.

Marchand-Coyle-DrBrusk
JVR-Zacha-Pasta
Heinen-Geekie-Freddy
Lucic-Beecher-Lauko
Boqvist

Gryz-McAvoy
Lindholm-Carlo
Forbort-Shattenkirk/Mitchell

Beecher has looked great, and with Lauko flying around and dropping the gloves tonight I think them two and Looch will be an awesome energy line.

Heinen is playing ok. I'm not excited about this option but it's a safe, reliable play. Fits on the third well.

Boqvist is a good depth option. Brings energy and seems like he can play any forward position.

Mitchell has looked great, and plays a similarly offensive focused game to Shat. They cam split games throughout the season if everyone's healthly. I like Lorhei's game but I think the left side is set and he can play big minutes in Prov to really develop his game. Figure he'll see some time as a call up at some point.

Would love of Poitras stays but I think they let him go back to juniors to focus on adding some muscle. Exciting prospect but no need to rush.

Burying Forbort, you save 1.1, dress a Providence D making 800k, that's 300k for a team pinching pennies. $429,166 is the current cap space, and that would bring it closer $730k, to dressing a 23 man roster (and/or banking that precious space later)

We are almost certain no team is gonna take him for free, save the (minimal) cap space and get a longer look on a Providence bound player

Certainly see other moves before I see that one, but it's a possibility.

He was injured. It's not a myth.
