If I were an Arsenal fan, I would probably focus on the rest of the entirely dry offense and not on Saka, but maybe I'm just built different
Agree 100%. We talked about it before, but Martinelli's underperformance has continued. I still expect him to turn it around, but he's been very wasteful in front of goal this year.

I feel that we're in a spot where you could argue both:

(1) Arteta's tactics have put the players in a position to create plenty of chances, so the players need to finish those chances.

(2) Arteta hasn't adapted his tactics enough this season to the change in personnel (primarily Havertz in for Xhaka, but also Partey being out injured), and so now we're clogging the midfield with players that like to play more off the ball to create space. So those players aren't driving play from midfield and pinging the ball around like an Odegaard/Xhaka/Partey, and they are also taking up space so that Odegaard/Zinchenko have less room to operate.

TOTY for me, as of January 2 2024, prior to the last game of the festive season.

Watkins - Haaland - Salah
Gallagher - Rice - D. Luiz
Doughty - VvD - Saliba - Trent
Kaminski

Feels weird to put two players from a team presently in 18th, but Luton would have zero points right now if not for the two of them.

Watkins is my POTY as of right now.

If not for injury, VdV would be there in place of VvD.

Rodri's three game suspension for pure boneheadedness, while it underscored his most valuable player status, also keeps him from making this squad.

Conor GallaGOAT is a homer pick that I do genuinely think is warranted and defensible.

I like this team

I think you messed up with one and a half LFC players. I think VdV drops Saliba, not Virgil. Not sure what metrics would suggest otherwise. Also any team without Alisson o net is really over thinking it.

I will say I like the Watkins and Doughty shouts a lot. Think it’s really hard to keep Son out but all in all there is a lot of competition for places up front this year.

VdV/VvD had far more to do with enjoying the letter similarity.

You know, Salah not a bad shout for player of the year either
He's leading in goals (tied) and leading in assists (also tied) and I'm assuming he's right near or at the top in terms of player ratings although I don't pay attention to those much.

For runners up, Son is a decent shout being only 2 goals (actually 1 ahead in open play) and 3 assists behind while playing. Ollie Watkins at 9 + 8 should get some recognition as well. Haaland will get some votes as well assuming he keeps up his usual goal scoring pace.

The fancy stats still hate Tottenham.
If we are talking about xG./xGA, I wouldn't really say it's due to luck:

They've outperformed their xG for years due to Sonny. Nothing out of the ordinary there really.

As for the xGA it is admittedly very high. I'd say it's due injuries, more offensively inclined fullbacks and lack of midfield solidity. The reason why they are outperforming their xGA is Vicario. He's bailed them out an awful lot of times. And I struggle seeing him regress to the mean.
