Went to the ASU game. Matikka is huge and plays on a gigantic DU team. They seriously felt like they were built by BA. Had a goal and an assist. I'm not sure he will be the prototypical 3rd liner. Feels like he will be the perfect depth scorer though. Like a Niederreiter, Tanner Pearson or a Kubalik rather than a Bonino type. At some point I'd would have felt Toffoli would be in that tier of 3rd liner, and now he is a bonafide top line winger. Very excited about this player

Just look at the size in our pipeline. A few years from now when this team decides it wants to be physical we are going to be fun to watch.

The Wild sending a message like, “how are you?,” seems like an out of date developmental model. Good to know the Coyotes are even keeping close tabs on long shot kids.

You have to take into consideration the usual diplomacy here regarding his KHL team, in reality this "how are you?" might already sound like "How much of a signing bonus do you need?".

High IQ on the second goal. Pushing the puck past the dman and turning it into a foot race. Finishing it off with a nice shot. But has all the tools and a high compete level. Really excited about him coming over.
Great article. But in one of the images in the piece I couldn’t help but notice the absolutely insane tape job he’s put on the knob of his stick…

…Bro…

It’s like he’s got an entire stick tape roll encased…
If anyone bumps into this guy, please ask him why the story is with that knob.
Two older brothers maybe it was the only way he could hold onto his twig lol. In all seriousness, pretty wild there and I’ve only even seen something like that with Nik Lidstrom.

Soderstom had 0 points in his first 8 games. In his past 3 games he has 2G 3A.
Many players who almost make the NHL roster and get sent down start off slow. I guess there are reasons for that with some players, just hoping Soderstrom has shaken off the demotion and starts playing solid hockey. BA praised his play last year. Time will tell what happens, but if he can't make this NHL rosters not sure if he ever will.

I think Soderstrom has always had the talent to score a bit. His problem is that he’s small and weak defensively, which as we see with the big club, is not what is needed. He’ll get his look I’m sure and I hope he can still be an NHLer

Matikka has been playing really well in NCAA for a first year player. Doesn't have a lot around him but is still scoring pretty well all things considered and more importantly is playing the perfect grinder game.
