We don’t know how he’s going to perform in the NHL, but we know he wasn’t very good this past week.
In a couple of years he may fit perfectly in Toronto where there’s not much pressure or expectation to win.

This 100%. I also wondered if he was playing through injury. His speed and tenacity are his trademarks and he showed none of either of those traits. Wasn’t thinking quickly either.

In the 3 1/2 games you watched who wasn't terrible?
Only bright spots were George and Schaeffer, who was sadly injured early in G2.
The whole team was lost and it starts behind the bench.

Fraser Minten looked horrible at the WJC last year, he looks great as a pro this year. Tearing it up in the AHL and held his own while up with the leafs.

And I’m still baffled by Cameron’s decision to challenge that non-goal call. There was zero chance it would be overturned. Sabotaging the team levels of stupidity there.

Main boards are a joke. He'll be fine, not a great tournament. A five game sample size doesn't slump two years of work.

He can't skate fast enough for pro hockey .. and he has a limited brain capacity which you can see in his stupid selfish hockey traits .. plus he is completely undisciplined .. i would trade him for a higher top 10 pick in this draft

I honestly didnt think he was that bad in this game. Yeah the puck bounced around on him but he was all around it and physical, stayed out of the box.

Because he can score in junior and there is always someone willing to take a chance on kids like that .. happens all da time
Point and Marner weren’t standouts at the tournament.
Cody Hodgson and Justin Poggie were legends there.
It’s a fun tournament and a good chance for people who don’t follow Jr hockey a chance to see the next wave of kids. But it’s a tiny sample size people draw way too many conclusions from.
The silver lining of Easton Cowans WJHC is that now leaf fans came temper their expectations for this kid and don't anoint him some savior or future star. This kid has to develop a lot.
If there was a Leaf trade and a team wanted Cowan he is no longer this untouchable prospect.

It has nothing to do with the pressure he will face with the Leafs. There are long lists of players who were amazing at the WJC and had little to no impact on the NHL and players who weren’t very good there and went on to have great NHL careers.
It’s too small of a sample size to draw the conclusions people do sometimes.

I didn't watch it all, but that missed back door tap in was brutal in the first (selfish) and he followed it up with a bunch of forced passes into sticks/skates for most of that period. Just bad awareness, bad decision making and poor execution.
He was one of the more frustrating players because you saw signs of potential and he just kept forcing things over and over
That play happened so fast, we all have the luxury of looking at it slowed down on Twitter. Yeah it’s a tough look but does one play define a guy?
Watched it live, saw it developing, was pretty obvious without replay and in the moment.
He had a tough tournament, it wasn't just that one play. We'll blame Leafs bias, and I'm sure there's some, but he was the most frustrating players this tournament (different from worst)
