Cowan won't have to worry about the fans while he's still on his ELC.

My advice to him when he asks for his first pay raise after that restraint of trade though is duck and cover.
In 3 years the core 5 will be 4 and on the wrong side of their prime years. You'd be surprised the amount of player movement between then and now

As an 18 year old he was already OHL regular season MVP (Red Tilson Trophy) and OHL playoff MVP ((Wayne Gretzky 99 Award) and could top this off by leading his team to the Memorial Cup and be named tournament MVP there also. Then he will get a looooooong look at Leafs camp.

He will look good on Leafs 3rd "KID LINE" next year ...

"Play the Kids" !!!
Many usually hate this idea... and I don't know If Minten will even make it but I never mind seeing a kid line grow together. Then as they get better they can be moved around into different roles.

Usually you want a vet on a line but at the very least I'd love to see it in pre season.

The Kid Line

The Kid Line was a NHL line for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1930s. It included Charlie Conacher, Harvey "Busher" Jackson and Joe Primeau.

When they first came together as a line in late 1929, Primeau was the oldest at 23 years old, while Jackson and Conacher were both 18. All three players are members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. All but Primeau was born in Toronto but they all grew up in the city.

Maple Leafs coach Conn Smythe, put the line together, and it helped the Maple Leafs win the 1932 Stanley Cup and lead the Leafs to four more Stanley Cup finals appearances over the next six years.

History has a way of repeating itself.

Credit where credit’s due, it was a nice move by Dubas to flip Sandin for this pick
As opposed to when Dubas was dealing away Leafs first round picks to remove his poor Mzaek signing or Foligno dead line trade.

Dubas traded away every Leafs 1st round pick in all 6 of his years..

2018 - Trade back from 25th to 29th to draft Rasmus Sandin.
2019 - To LA for Jake Muzzin.
2020 - To Carolina to dump Marleau contract.
2021 - To Columbus for Nick Foligno.
2022 - To Chicago to dump Petr Mrazek.
2023 - To St. Louis for Ryan O'Reilly.
2024 -
2025 1st rounder already to Chicago for Jake McCabe. (Leafs don't even have next years 1st rounder)

If Dubas was still around there was no question that based on his track record he would have dealt away this pick also which was obtained by dealing Leafs former 1st round pick Rasmus Sandin for recaptured 1st.

Without the Sandin trade Treliving would have only been left with a 5th and 6th round pick in 2023.

So I agree credit where credit is due, it was a great move by Shanahan firing Dubas and replacing him with Treliving just in time to stop Dubas' scorched earth draft policy to continue as only 3 draft picks survived his reign of terror.

My guess is they could Hound the other team's weaker lines.

Looking at Granlund, Rutta, Hoffman and a 1st that Pittsburgh sent to San Jose for Erik Karlsson, I think that Cowan pick would have probably been packaged off to SJ and we’d have EK65 in Toronto had Dubas remained in his GM role and gotten to work at last year’s draft.

No question my friend that is what would have happened because that is exactly what he did the minute he arrived in Pittsburgh. :)

He manufactured that 1st round pick from Sandin to re-invest it.. Had he been in Toronto he would have used the Cowan pick.

PS. Of course the EK65 deal blew up in his face by taking on another double digit salary in Pittsburgh and hurting their depth and forcing the Pens to miss the playoffs and now San Jose will be picking 14th overall at the expense on Pens Nation now having the ONLY GM Clueless enough who puts so little value in draft picks and uses them as currency to fuel his failures.

Anderson was a very good player.
Kind of reminded me of Ellis.

Nylander shattered his record for point streak to start a season.

Boschman had no bite and Saganiuk was a mediocre player who was only popular because of his name. Anderson was legit.
