Talk is Helenius could be coming over next summer. Center depth could be that much more crowded.
It cant get more crowded at center.. you hurt development if you keep this up... and just assuming guys can move to wing is a bad idea as you can see Vilardi wasnt shy about being disappointed about it. Centers grow up centers they learn faceoffs and how to be the 3rd D down low.. Wingers grow up working the top half of the D zone and quick to get speed for a rush.. its a different mentality. What do we have Fagemo and Kaliyev? Who else is developing at wing I cant think of anyone else. It seems like a crisis to be this center heavy.

And what a privilege it is! It only hurts the development of the player who doesn't step up his play with the added competition.

Kaliyev, Fagemo, Chromiak, Simontaival, arguably Madden and Thomas.

Yes its great to be stocked on talent.. but you risk not developing some of these guys at center due to not getting any reps in their position.. and also, you want to develop a core to rise together not plug in parts later.. so ideally they move some of these guys and spread the wealth across positions.

Again, what a problem to have! These things will work themselves out, Whether through trades, competition etc, it's great "problem" to have.

22 draft might be better then the past 3 drafts.

I hate to be a downer but I feel like I wasted so much time watching this tournament for 20+ years when it really has no impact at all on prospect evaluation or development. It just blows my mind how much value is placed on these games when it comes to player rankings, how is one short tournament more important than an entire season of games in the CHL or NCAA?

This tournament used to be for national bragging rights and now it's for message-board and social media bragging rights (or trashing rival players who don't excel or make teams). I don't think anyone believes that Clarke's development is being hindered by not making this tournament, they just wanted to hype him up, and now they have to face it from Joe Ducks fan that he didn't make it.

...then just show them that clip of Zellweger getting completed clowned on a Czech goal.

Some people just like watching good hockey and this is one of the only times you'll get full access to watching most of the world's top prospects in one place. It's a bummer that Clarke got left off not because his development will be hindered but because it would be nice to see him flying on the big stage and having a prospect on each team makes it possible to watch every game with more interest.

I agree that elsewhere way too much emphasis gets placed on the results of this tourney in general as people try to extrapolate WJC performance to career, which just doesn't correlate as well as it gets pumped, but I don't think that happens as much here.

These performances usually have better indicators than a season of beating up on 16-19 year-olds.

I wanted Clarke to play because he's clearly one of the best Canadian defensemen. I want to see good hockey, where the best players play on the biggest stage, nothing more than that.

As far as prospect analysis goes, the WJC is VASTLY overrated, and ridiculous "evaluations" are made all over the place

I said it last year and I'll say it again. There's no stopping Canada. They're going to run away with this tournament. ;)
