WC: 2022 Women's World Championships

That's a very Russian name for a Czech, no?
It is! No idea what the story is for them. He was born in Kladno just like Jagr!

Now tell me why Bonk, Hejduk x 2 and Pivonka play for North American teams?haha

USA outshooting Finland 60-10 with lots of the third still to play. And Finland is the third best team?

Canada has put lots of pressure on Switzerland in this game but it's still only 1-0 nearly half way through.

That didn't last long. Two quick goals for Canada, including a nice one for Fillier.

Canada beats Switzerland 4-1. However they were somewhat undisciplined, taking 6 penalties in the game, including 2 late in the game when the Swiss were pushing. They do that against USA they won't skate out of it so easily.

Czechs up 5-1 on Denmark (who's ladies and men defeated our ladies and men at the Olympics)

I'd love to tell you it's a great game but can't find any streams.

I really don't like how TSN isn't showing any games from Group B. Yes they're clearly the second tier countries under this format, but it still feels cheap to not show any of them.

I just don't think it's commercially viable for them. TSN has done a great job of amplifying women in sport for a long time, and I have personally been watching women's hockey on this channel almost from its inception, but even I'm not interested in the lower pool. My guess is they pull in much better ratings by running six consecutive episodes of the same Plays of the Month episode.

Also don't forget their broadcast team is probably feeling stretched pretty thin with this being their third tournament in August so far.

Finland’s 1C Susanna Tapani was absent against USA due to personal reasons. Turned out those personal reasons were her friend’s wedding. Hard to take women’s hockey seriously when they themselves care so little.

Agree. TSN is doing their best but asking them to lose money to televise games no one will watch is a bridge too far.

Czechia has taken steps in recent years in women's. I hope they make the top group for 2023. By now they have played just one game against NA team (losing 1-4 against USA in Olympic quarterfinal)

On one hand, I have seen more than one Canadian man refuse to play in the IIHF world championship due to someone else's wedding or even weaker reasons. On the other, this is highest profile opportunity that the women get most years, though there was an Olympic tournament this year. Ultimately every team from that pool advances so I wouldn't hold it against her.

Half way through the Canada-Japan game Canada is up 4-0. Not so bad. Much more jarring is that the shots are 32-0.

Poulin makes it 5-0 on a partial break, shots 40-0.

I am 50-50 on the format now... I used to love it. But when you see the Finn's getting destroyed and they are legit third best then we aren't preventing blowouts anymore. Canada/US are on another level and no denying that but 3 to 10 is much more competitive now.

Getting from Pool B to Pool A is very challenging. I think I'd prefer a Canada and US pool at this point and crossovers.

I'm not a fan when only one pool is shown (done at U18 too sometimes)... even if it was on their bonus channel. It's a world championship and games should be broadcast in some form or another. As far as prohibitive cost... lots of little Euro tourneys are broadcast for free.

I can promise you the broadcast team is loving the hours/overtime.

Highlights of the game which was clearly recorded somewhere by someone... show that feed!

Czech goalies were nice... Czech goal against was god awful.lol

Even the best goalies allow some weird ones in. I get it's only been Hungary and Denmark but the way the Czech's are beating these teams (at least via scoreboard watching) if you're the 3rd team in Pool A you should be getting concerned. If the Czech's do this to Germany/Sweden you should be terrified if you're Switzerland/Finland. I'm all aboard Canada winning but the Czech's are a really fun story to watch and have been for about a year now. Their program has finally found their feet and could be the team we were hoping Sweden could be in 2006 (before the Swedish hockey federation tanked the program).
