It’s true, it would be rare. Very likely it is more tipping and or Manoah had no movement on his fastball.

But pitching coaches still give signs to the catcher on pitches from the dugout. Possible to get a sign stolen there from the first or third base coach.
Manoah just threw two fastballs right down the heart of the plate and they made him pay for it. It wasn't a lack of movement he couldn't locate his fastball. It either was running to far in or catching to much of the plate.

Manoah had a poor 1st while shaking off the jitters, and settled in okay after. They still had 8 innings to chisel back into the game. Castillo was just lights out, and you can't do anything but tip your cap.

Sucks though, because just like that, there is no room for error and the season could be over in the blink of an eye after finishing off the regular season very strong.

good pitching by Castillo coupled with a team that if they don't hit homers can't manufacture runs to win tight games aka playoff games.

It would've already been over with last season's wildcard format, so at least the Jays have another chance to tie this thing up tomorrow and force a game 3

..but they better get the bats working and score more than zero runs

You know, if I were a betting man (and I very much am), I would have gone 0/4 tonight. Scherzer getting lit up, Rays getting beat in a close game, St Louis blowing a late-game lead for the first time in forever. That's baseball for you.

But also, f*** the MLB. They ask us to watch 162 4-hour games, and when the most exciting part finally arrives, they hit the fast-forward button.

Jays got dominated by Castillo.

A couple of AB's where the building was begging for a hit so they could explode but no dice.

Keys to tomorrow's game are pretty straightforward:

- Gausman MUST throw up early zeros (if we fall behind 3-0 early again stick in a fork in this year)
- Offense has to be less anxious (take more pitches from Ray)
- Desperation (the Jays need to want this more than Seattle especially now with their backs against the wall)

Ballgame. Ugly way to go out.

Gonna be real interesting to see how the Jays respond. This isn't like other series where you have 4 games to figure your shit out. You just got punched in the mouth and now have roughly 18 hours to regroup and reload. Oh and your season is on the line.

Positives: Kevin Gausman, unlike Manoah has taken the mound in the postseason before. The Jays in theory should also know Robbie Ray pretty well given he was their teammate last season.

It ain't over yet. Definitely doesn't look great, but it's not over.
They’re fine. They either had to win the first two of the series or the last two. I mean like yeah you can go 1-1-1 but 1-2 or 2-0 are both likely outcomes too.

We got this, fam.

You have to beat one of their two aces right. In short series odds against us from start. Because they hit our starters well in last series
My son said yesterday morning that Jays would only score 1 run or get shutout in two of the three games in the series because they cant hit the top pitchers.

That’s one of those stats where you might sound right but once you dig into it you realize they’re probably as good or better than most teams against top pitchers.

Really good pitchers don’t give up a lot of earned runs and they’re facing good pitchers. The pressure got to Monah, maybe he was too pumped up early in the game but he settled down

I’m sure Seattle will trot out another good pitcher today.

Opening day with 50,000 at the start of the year and Berrios shit the bed probably nerves played a part. Opening night of playoffs Manoah struggled in the first, again probably nerves. I was thinking in advance that home field wouldn’t be much of an advantage as it felt like some of these guys put to much pressure on themselves. Hopefully the nerves are out of there system now. We had to get these games out of the way but now our guys should be adjusted to the elevated levels of craziness at Rogers Centre.
