To be fair, none of that is Top 5, which is ideally where this team should be with the amount of offensive talent grouped together. I’d argue they should be Top 3 in some of these categories, considering they don’t have the stacked rotation of a team like the Dodgers or the seemingly endless pitching depth of a team like the Rays. They need to make up for it on offense, and by that I mean they need to be significantly better on offense than the Rays, for example.

7/8th is good, it’s top third of the league, but is it actually elite? Because that’s probably where it needs to be to overcome some of the other issues on the roster.

The point you were claiming was that they needed to be more consistent. Other teams that rank ahead of them in some aspects rank further below them in others. Being top 10 in pretty much everything that matters is no small feat. With a healthy lineup they can field a 1-9 offence with 110+ wRC+ players, 7 of which have 120+ wRC+. The Dodgers are the only other team that can do that (though Bellinger is primarily their CFer).

The problem is the Dodgers have that plus a stacked rotation.

The Yankees are better at scoring runs and have a comparable pitching staff.

The Rays have home field advantage to a crazy degree and insane pitching depth.

The Astros score less but are better at preventing runs.

To get past these teams the Jays probably need to be elite offensively in a lot of categories, because they lose the matchup in other areas.

If you're top 8 against EVERY pitch? Yes, that is elite.

You said they needed better balance because they struggle against certain pitches. That's just not the case. They're one on the most well-balanced offenses in the league.

Is it enough to challenge the offense and pitching of the Yankees or the Dodgers? The Jays aren’t as good at run prevention so they need to be that much better at run scoring.

Umps are normally way off base but I honestly don't see much wrong here. I'd need to get clarification on what Francona was arguing but HBP is a reviewable play. If he still has his challenge then challenge, if he doesn't then the umps aren't allowed to use a crew review until the 8th. They got together and discussed it and felt it wasn't a HBP which appears to be the correct call. If that was indeed the discussion the umpire gave him a lot of rope on a pretty black and white decision. Either sit down and we can continue the game or you're I'll make you sit down somewhere else.

As for the 2nd one I don't believe I've ever seen a pitcher get a handful of warmup pitches after a 5 minute delay because of a ruling/arguing. I'm not sure if the umpires have the discretion to allow it. Looks like Tepera got some there at the end so I guess so unless he went rogue after the ump was distracted tossing his manager. Tossing Nevin was a bit much in that spot and a lot likely could have been done to calm the situation down rather than escalate but he was likely still hot after whatever the hell Francona decided to get upset about for no reason.

Ejection 1:
Closecallsports went over what Tito was so angry about. He wanted to review the HBP but Kulpa said you've gone past the 20 second time limit so we aren't going to review. That is likely what Kulpa and Tumpane were talking about themselves, the 20 second review rule....... The issue was that Tito actually wasn't past his 20 seconds. CCS timed it in their analysis. They should have gone to review. Kulpa f'd that up...... When all 4 umpires got together it would have been to discuss the HBP vs No HBP. Since that didn't go his way AND they wouldn't go to review he went nuts.

Ejection 2:
Umpires have discretion under the new pace of play rules to refuse warm up pitches if they want to. Kulpa used that and said no. That's what set Nevin off. Ironically while Nevin and Kulpa were going at it Tepera started throwing..... Which is what he should have done during the original delay, not waiting until after it was all done with.

I can't remember which umpire but they did that to Kenley Jensen earlier this year because he takes about 5 minutes to walk from the bullpen to the mound, then another 30 seconds for each pitch.... I guarantee he will get ejected at least once next year over the pitch clock rules.

I feel like Manoah's getting kind of lucky. I'm watching gamecast there are some pitches that look like pitching machine stuff. And his velocity appears to be down a couple mph.

For the love of god please don't waste a lead off double. Team just struggling constantly to bring in runners in scoring position.
