Seen many games since the start of the Challenge. Desruisseaux is the Québec forward I like the most for the upcoming draft. Great offensive upside.

Poirier too is demonstrating a lot of skills
Lacerte is clutch
Daigle is doing what he does best

Teams with great 05 leadership are leading the parade.

I would think things are headed in this direction. Really nervous about the rest of the season. Really glad that the Midget AAA Challenge in La Baie is still going on right now, that might be my last chance to see them live in a while.
Agreed, the Ice Jam will likely be the next casualty for this group early in the new year if not sooner.

I spent the last few days reading everyone’s posts while going through this thread, I am not sure how many Scouts actually use this site or if this is just a place for parents to pump the tires of their kids, their buddies kid’s, their neighbors kids, or their friend’s kids, but I think it needs to stop. Especially from the eyes of the people trying to place these kids in the right spot and locations come draft time. It’s a hard enough position to be in, not alone listen to nonsense while trying to build these kids futures.
I heard so many good things about this board, so I decided over the break I wanted to check it out for myself, and while there are a lot of good points and valuable information on here, I see there are a lot of people trying to pump the tires of kids, what look to be mostly PEI born kids. I ask for these people to Stop. Don’t worry about you finding the team for your kid to play on, in this day and age everyone knows who everyone is and where everyone is playing. You may not think they do but they do and if you are good enough or on their radar, they will find you. Just some food for thought.

I was very disappointed to hear some of the options from some of the people on here in regards to prep schools. Yes a Prep School is a prep school and the U18 AAA NS & NB/PEI league is a U18AAA league that scouts are supposed to be linked to as their bread and butter for selections, that being said prep schools are too. These Prep schools are just as talented and probably more so focused on development than the AAA Provincial leagues. In my opinion the AAA Provincial leagues are very watered down this year and would have a hard time beating most if not all the Prep teams around. With the exception of KES who seem to be struggling this year. The Mount Academy may not have any big names like last year, but you have to give credit to the school and the recruiters for the Job they have done finding the players they have. Both these schools have Draft Eligible players who could easily go in this years draft just as easy as the AAA leagues do. RNS have a very good Reputation with 1 very strong U18 Team while Mount Academy is offering 3 teams in the U18 Division and all 3 are winning with 2 of those teams having Draft eligible Players on them.

I noticed a comment around page 5 maybe further stating that a kid going to prep school would never pay 30,000 to play in the NB/PEI League, I agree no one should . I am pretty sure this was another comment made by a parent of a kid in the NB/PEI league that was probably to scared to see someone from outside PEI or NB come into their province and out play their kid. The same person stated that Prep schools are routes that creates visibility for US Prep. Strongly Disagree, maybe NCAA if a kid wanted to go that route but why would they want to go to a US prep school, to play their own age. Tyler Wood & Will Shields both went down there 2 years in a row. Wood attended Mount St Charles first year and now attending South Kent , while Shields went to Bishops both years. Both players I am not fans of, too be honest, I find them both to be cocky and both to have bad attitudes. There is a fine line between cocky and Confident, No doubt they both work hard, but there are so many more factors into being drafted high in the draft that need to be noticed first, and although points help they are not everything. Not to burst their supporters bubble, I just don’t get it. However they are getting a lot of praise for playing against their own age group. Both players are Playing U15 while most draft eligible players are playing U18. I have been around a long time and I know someone playing their own level in their own age group will find it harder and more demanding playing U18 or Junior with bigger stronger bodies. Again only my opinion but if someone wants to be the best they need to be playing against the best, and Playing against other 2006’s don’t do it for me, when 2006’s here are playing with and against 2004 & 2003’s.

I am impressed with Phillips, who is a kid who decided to go state side to play in Pittsburgh with the Elite U15, got called up with the U16's for a game so far, but honestly did he really need too go ? Phillips, if he would of stayed here would of been probably the best D in the U18 League and arguably he is still going to go very high in the draft regardless of him going state side. Shields will probably go high in the draft too. But is he ready to play with and against bigger stronger bodies. He maybe a great player but his maturity level is just not there yet.

With that being said the same teams seem to be the front runners in the NS & NB/PEI league. These teams are having a great season including Cole Harbour, Halifax Macs & Steele Subaru respectively in the NS League and St. John Vitos, Moncton Flyers and Charlottetown Knights in the NB/PEI League. Which isn’t surprising as these teams always seem to be strong year after year. After seeing the results from the Monctonian, Some of the kids that where chosen to Play in the Prospect game I personally didn’t think deserved to be there. Not mentioning any names but I am sure a lot of you were thinking the same thing. I am a little shocked as to where the Wild is sitting, with names like Dickson, Sharkey, MacEachern & Taylor. Although most of this team is smaller than other teams. I was really hoping to see Taylor produce more, as he had a strong second half last year in U15. If Dickson is supposed to be the go to guy, he needs to put better numbers up then he has already. Maybe they will be able to turn it around in the second half and start climbing the ladder

Not that I am hating on Weeks cause they usually have a stronger team than they do this year, especially after last years playoff run. However I know they are struggling this year losing a number of solid guys to the Q and Junior A. The team they have on paper with players like Mosher and Vohra & Janes between the pipes, who were supposed to step up are not. In my option there play is less than stellar with both Mosher and Janes not playing to their potential in the first half. Vohra is doing better then expected sitting in second on the team in Scoring. If I was that coach I would be thinking rebuild for next year and maybe look at a few of the veterans to lead the team.

Well that’s enough for today, I will be back in the next couple of days with my draft predictions up to and including draft eligible players from round 3 -5 considering the 1st-2nd rounds are pretty much selected with the early rankings circulating. This does have room for movement considering this is only January.

The following are factual:
- Players attending Academic/Sport programs away from home are by virtue of their experience better prepared to adapt; and
- There are a considerable amount of Pro players, all Pro League included, who played U16 at their first eligibility year.

I am so glad to see someone on this board take things seriously through the breakdown of the Provincial leagues compared to Prep Schools

I Respect your picks for the U17 Mount team with Grandy, Hebert & Lavoie however I do believe there are Probably a few more players that could go in the draft as well considering it is only January, depending on how the Second half goes. ( Thoughts )

I know the U18#1 team has mostly all drafted players from last year, so that being said those players wont be considered this year cause they had their year last year, with no 2006 players on this team. the only players that might get a chance would be a couple 2005 2nd year players.

The one team I am impressed with however, and you didn't mention is the 18#2 team the Mount has this year. In the beginning I wasn't sure what to think in regards to the Mount hosting 3 U18 teams, In saying that, this team is built with Players aged 2006 - 2003, So the development for the 2006's would be greater because they are battling and practicing daily with bigger stronger bodies compared to the smaller U17's. They are a winning club, and proving themselves every time they step on the ice. They are having a great season in both leagues they playing in. So while everyone is focused on the U17 team come draft time, don't over look the 3 2006 players having a strong year. Landon Fraser (F), Brady Croft (F), and Tibor Nemeth (D) are turning heads as 2006's playing on the U18#2 team. Fraser plays a Physical game by getting in the face of the opponents and making him hard to play against. Croft is a 200 foot player, with speed being one of his best assets, he plays a Positional style game, Although he can score he focuses on the defensive side of the game more, he is a smart player who sees the ice well. Nemeth is a very strong D who sees the ice well, he has great Patience and looks for the right play before he makes it. He is a huge asset to the Backend of this team. Again this is only January So look for these 3 Players to get better and develop throughout the remainder of the season. I am not seeing them go high in the Draft but I am thinking Round 3 - 6 P ( thoughts )

Really look forward to hearing your thoughts. I am still working on my list and hope to post it this weekend sometime.

The CSSHL east of TO is not a heavily scouted league, I think I seen a total of 5 maybe 6 players from the entire league on the CSR list out of a total of 300+ players.
The moment you leave the island, drive thru NB and the hit the Quebec border, that's your bench mark. Forget the U18 leagues in Atlantic Canada. Quebec, U18, U17 Espoir and the RESQ are all ahead of the CSSHL in talent and more importantly scouting visibility. With all these leagues actually playing games this year, it's safe to assume the CSSHL will have very few selections come June 2022.

I am confused by this CSR list that I seen with 156 players on it. I can’t even take it serious, did they just copy and paste all 2006 kids playing U18 AAA and paste in this list. There are a lot of kids on this list that I believe should be there, but there are a lot that I do not believe deserves to be on this list. That being said, there are no 2006 kids mentioned from the prep schools. There are kids playing RNS, KES and Mount that should be added to this list.

I am starting to believe, you saying that CSSHL don’t get a lot of scout exposure, but I don’t agree with you saying the players in these prep schools playing in this league are not as skilled or talented, as the players in the U18 AAA leagues. I can name quite a few 2006 draft eligible kids playing in these 3 schools that are more skilled then the U18 AAA league. If this is the way people think I think it’s time people start looking out side the box and realize there are better players playing out side the U18 AAA league then there are on the list posted. IMO

I agree with this. I think a lot of kids did not get recognized but there is a lot of time to go. Even something so simple as Jeremie Leroux. Was not on the list, (Stanstead College) going to be a first round pick. I think scouts need to get there act together and ignore the leagues and look for the best skill, potential, hard work. If anything I think prep kids should be seen as more “soughed after” they will continue to get better coaching and development while showing they have the commitment and drive to move away and handle the pressure at such a young age. Nothing against AAA just sharing some thoughts. Let me know what you think.

The CSR lists are compiled after a viewing or two. Some CSR scouts have their favourites from their areas. I would guess some advisors get in some of their ears. The big thing is getting on the list after that teams will pick how they want. CSR has no idea if the kid is selfish, bad teammate, fully developed, bad student etc.

CSR acknowledged Leroux as an A prospect but could not rank him because of some weird Hockey Canada rules. It's not because they don't know who he is.

If anything the list the CSR posted this year so far might be their most accurate to date compared to previous years where there were many more big headscratchers to me. I'm sure when they are ranked in numerical order I'll have my issues with the list but the groupings were overall fine.

I know much of this board appears to be guys with a lot of love for CSSHL Maritime prep schools and the Mount players in particular. The reality is historically these teams attracted players that would likely be left off their club U18 teams at 15. These programs are gaining momentum but that still holds true for much of their rosters and Q scouts know that. Last years U17 team on the Island was an exception for a whole variety of reasons, unrealistic to think that trend continues with this years clubs.

Agree to disagree, I believe if you were to put anyone of the U18 Prep teams up against any one of the U18 AAA teams they would win, point proven RNS already played two games before the Holidays and won both.
Lets try it with the other schools and see who comes out on top. I dare to bet that the Prep schools will. Not saying that every prep kid is gonna get drafted same as not all AAA players are gonna get drafted but I bet there will be quite a few from each league come Draft time.

Yes, Historically speaking the preps schools build their rosters by taking kids that never had the chance to make their home clubs in U18. However these kids didn’t make these teams because they weren’t talented enough, these kids didn’t make these teams because of the bullshit politics and the circle of friends etc etc, that goes on behind the scenes that not a lot of people see. It’s ok if your one of those parents cause you tend to turn a blind eye and play stupid, but for the kids and parents that get caught up in it, It’s unfair and even though some parents feel pitty they turn their head anyway like nothing is wrong with how selections get picked and decisions are made. Their kid made it because the parents are is this imaginary circle until it not a circle any more it’s one or two on the inside with everyone else looking in wondering what happen. Than you see who the leaders of the circle are really connected too. Unfortunately many of these kids could play at AAA level easily with their home clubs but certain parents don’t want certain kids showing up their kids or the coaches kid this close to the Q draft. And the Q scouts know that too. There not stupid, everyone is going to have their option right down to the final name at the draft but mark my words there will be prep school kids in this draft come June.

First, I would like to thank maritimehockey01 for the last post which influenced me at following his/her lead.

I am so glad to see someone on this board take things seriously through the breakdown of the Provincial leagues compared to Prep Schools

Maritimehockey01 and... maritimehockey02. If you're gonna make a burner account to try to support your own claims, at least try. Worst part is that it looks like you have a lot to contribute to this thread, but now it seems you have some sort of ulterior motive

I appreciate your input, and I do have a lot to offer. Yes, now that you say that it does looks suspicious, but I can swear I do not know who Martimehockey02 is and I can promise you there is no Ulterior motive. you have my word.

It's true that RNS did well against U18 AAA teams, but the CSR has also recognized that there are 2 A prospects and one B prospect on that RNS team. So yes, these guys would likely be able to play in U18 AAA of course. Among the Preps mentioned here, it is the only one in my opinion that can compete with the strong U18 teams from NS and NB.

4 players on Mount Academy are on the list as well. To me, they are bubble U18 AAA players depending on which team they would play on and could get drafted.

I don't think there is a significant bias here, teams want the best players they can get and don't care where they are from.
