I had Nemec 2nd on my list, so I wasn’t shocked by it. Slaf at 1 did though. Definitely a rejigging for both fanbases. Weird to have a player in mind for months and then end up with someone else lol

Slaf at 1 didn't really surprise me but Nemec at 2 did. Looked like all the signs were pointing to you guys going Slaf for a few days in advance. I thought if we ended up going D it'd have been Jiricek. Seemed to fit Fitz better and I think it fit the team better (hate fit talks but I think this was the rare case it was relevant).

Ya the fact he was passed by other teams definitely makes me feel better. Especially Zona going with another center. Something has to be up.
Saw the stare down to the Habs table after his pictures with Bettman. To me, that’s a bas look. Maybe team didn’t like his attitude/entitlement? We’ll never know.

Most of us Habs fan were locked into Wright. And I’m sure you guys were locked into Slaf. How are you guys feeling at the moment?
I'm bummed you guys took Slaf but I'm pretty excited of the potential of both Luke Hughes and Nemec being the cornerstone of our defense. These guys both skate well and they can handle the puck which is something we lack, especially at RD. Add having Nico and Jack as our top centers, our team is being built the right way. If we get good goaltending, we're going to be a playoff team.

I don't know why, there's something about Wright that doesn't click. Having questions about your compete level is an absolute red flag. You can't teach work ethic.

For my part, annoyed.

Annoyed at Fitz for choosing "NEED" over BPA which Wright undoubtedly was.

Yeah.

Arizona brass has the combined intellect of a doorknob.

THAT is what's up.

Wright is so much better than Cooley in the same position they play, it's not even funny.

Seattle Kraken fans have to be doing cartwheels thanks to the IDIOCY by the GMs ahead of them.

In the system sure but on the team itself we currently have a very strong 1-2 on the right side

It's not. Nemec was their BPA. I disagree with them but he was their BPA. Report was quite a few teams liked Nemec at lot and had him at 2.

I don't care.

DramaticGloveSave asked a question and I answered and gave my viewpoint.

Just like everyone else here(you included) answered.

Yet, I'm the one who is given the critique here all because I'm not in agreement with the masses. sigh....

I'm tired of this hivemind s--t.

All in all, the Devils draft was Solid, I will say.

I'd give it a grade of an "A" because Fitz did find great value after the 1st round (PLUS he got us a goaltender).

Would've given him an "A+" but...1st round. yeah.

Severson might not be here after next season. After Dougie we have nothing and Luke is probably going to end up at LD. Having a solid top 4 with Dougie, Nemec, Luke and Siegs is awesome. All under 30 and we're ready to start taking leaps. We just need goaltending.

it's bc we're stuck in a situation where you will (no matter what people say) believe that wright was the BPA

i really do think the hype made him seem a lot more elevated than he might really be. i know we hate the idea of "picking need over BPA" but why can't the BPA also be a needed pick?

i've said it a few times, but did we really want another rookie winger?

edit: saw your response from 30 min ago haha. let's see what we do to fill our top 6 winger need

I liked Wright because I believe that he's the most polished player of the five we discussed heavily, who can easily move to wing, the sort of guy who will feast on easy tap ins next to Jack or Bratt.

It's arguable that the next safest player was Nemec but not controversial at all. That was my initial impression too - Jiricek and Slafkovsky were a bit raw to me whereas Nemec looked like an NHL-style player.

Yeah I think Wright would’ve been a pretty perfect fit on Jack’s wing

I really can't believe you're doing this again, you did it before with Patrick. This is the only proof I have :P Prospect Info: - 2020 NHL Draft - Part III But I definitely remember it.

Ty, I'm glad you have a levelheaded attitude about this. All the people saying this was need pick has me scratching my head. They had Jiricek and Gauthier available to pick as exact players that this org "needs".

don't know if its true or not but rumor on the Habs board is that during the player meetings the grilled both Slafkovksy and Wright about their deficiencies. Slaf was calm and agreed with some of the criticisms while arguing others. Wright however apparently was "Shook" and his answers didn't please the Habs draft team.

Sorta does line up a bit given his "deserved being picked 1OA" comment.

It's really a shame we can't see this stuff. What does "shook" mean exactly here though?

I'm guessing it means that he wasn't expecting to be criticized or have his deficiencies thrown at him. You have to be quite conceited to think just because you are ranked #1 that the interviews would be easy.

Also given how Coach MSL (Martin St louis) got into the NHL undrafted. I think that Wrights attitude would have annoyed him.

Out of curiosity, were these internal interviews before all the public ones he did with the reporters? I remember watching one where he was questioned about his compete level and he just brushed it off as it not being an issue of compete but him just preferring to use his iq. Idk, kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

For a guy who claims he always wants to be the best and does whatever it takes, he sure didn't show it in the playoffs.

First beer, shot, drink on me whenever I get my ass to Jersey.

Being a Devils fan is awesome cause… well, Marty is better, Stevens will knock you out, Patty is iron, and in Nico/Jack I trust.

Now… can we get a goalie?

ha ha! Goddamn....yeah. Nico really made me eat my words and I'm happy for it.

Hope the same for Nemec, tbh.

EDIT : @PKs Broken Stick , but in that same thread you linked I acknowledged my error :

I'm 100% sure its from the ones at the combine where each team has a hotel room that they use to interview players.

It's really not surprising that nothing else is coming after the press conference the other day. They're giving Blackwood one last shot
for the press that's it. if nothing else results he has given blackwood a vote of confidence in public. if a gm wants to overpay for him, he will listen. blackwood is not unavailable like jack hughes.
once rhe goalie market dries out the ask to pry away one of them will raise.

I'm not sure it played much of a part in their drafting but I do like the fact that they went very defense heavy in this draft considering next year's class is absolutely loaded with forward talent.

No one is going to overpay. Look at what we just moved for Vanecek coming off 2 much better years. At best we'd get that same return AND we'd then need to find another goalie in that dried up goalie market you mentioned. It would literally make no sense to move him in the scenario you're laying out.
