I thought Camm was a good signing at the time but I also blocked out those years from my mind. What happened to him? Didn't he have a bunch of family issues that affected his career? Like a sick kid or something?
I think he did have a sick kid, but I don't think it was really a persistent issue. I think it just kept him out for a few games in his last season here.
What do I think happened to him? He just got old. He was 34 years old his last year here. That's no kid in the NHL. That's considerably over the hill in the NHL. Sidney Crosby is still really good at 34 years old, but Mike Cammalleri? Not so much.
I don't even think there's 75-80 players 34 and older that played in the league this last season. I'm pretty sure Crosby was the 60th oldest player (I went through this months ago during the season and forgot the results I came up with) to play in the league this last year. I think there was only something like 140 players (maybe it was 160?) to play in the NHL in 21-22 that were born in the 1980's or earlier.
He signed in LA after we bought him out, but got moved to Edmonton (and I don't even remember who he was traded for, but I think it was a similarly older player like him) and had a decent season for a 35 year old signed at a million dollars for a year, but there obviously was no interest from any NHL teams in the summer of 2018, as he would never play again.
