Should be a high end prospect at #7 but you have to be frustrated if your a Chicago fan. Davidson is going toward a rebuild, which is the right direction.. complete 180 from Bowman. They couldve been starting off the rebuild with the 12OA pick last year, the 6th OA & 7th OA pick this year.. instead they have a 27 year old Seth Jones locked in until he's 35 just under 10 million a year. Good player.. just not for the direction Chicago is going in

Anyone know if the Rangers trade their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, would that get them to move back into the 1st round?

Ngl Stutzle/DeBrincat strikes the eyes as a potentially phenomenal pairing. Ottawa still has a ways to go on the blue line and in net, but they will be a menace with all that talent up front.

They have Zub and Chabot there already and Sanderson coming, who is a STUD.

I just wonder if its going to come together for that group though. On paper you would think so but we've been saying that about Buffalo for almost 15 years now (though I think they're finally trending in the right direction.)

I'm not as bullish on those dmen as their forwards but that's true all the same. I wasn't thinking about Sanderson and he could be a huge difference maker for them.

IIRC, the recent medical reports on Miroshnichenko have had optimistic outlooks, and I'd guess he'll get picked in the latter third of the 1st round. McKenzie had him ranked 19th, and I don't think there's any chance he falls all the way to 63.

With the current political landscape, I wouldn't be overly shocked if he fell to us at 63. Russia is literally arresting players right now.

Put this in perspective.

Copp, a deadline rental, cost the Rangers a 1st, 2nd, 5th, and Barron. Career high 53 points.

Debrincat, 24, two time 40 goal scorer, RFA after 22-23, just cost Ottawa a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
The 7th overall is more valuable than all of the assets we gave up combined. I don't think the two returns are particularly close. That said Davidson did a poor job

No. Teams don’t want to drop from a late first to a late second. When teams trade down, it’s often because they have players targeted that they still believe will be there with the highest pick being traded to them. Moving down an entire round throws a lot of uncertainty into that process.

I expect the Rangers to draft USNTDP guys going the NCAA route & Russian players with their picks. Guys you can let marinate for 3 years before they turn pro.

I'd be pretty surprised if we go for any Russian players unless someone REALLY drops by the time we are drafting in the 5th round. We don't have many picks. We have to make sure everyone we pick is actually going to be able to come to NA...

Yeah Norris is easily my favorite of the group. Wish we had him.

I guess the question now becomes will Ottawa pay Debrincat? Hes about to make bank but I guess if need be they can turn around and trade him for more than they gave up in a year

Historically those are the types who may drop to the middle rounds, especially with the uncertainty in Russia

Well he's an RFA so that helps Ottawa's cause. They've got Batherson locked in at an extremely team friendly number and Tkchuk and Chabot are both pretty good deals considering the term attached. They only have like four or five players under contract beyond Debrincat's term, and of course, we'll see what numbers Stutzle and Norris come in at, but I don't think they'll have much trouble with it at all.

Next season's biggest question will be in goal and defending in general. We'll see how Sanderson comes into the league, Zub looks good but he doesn't have a lot of games behind him either. Chabot isn't exactly a prime Chara on the defensive side of things... Anton Forsberg gave them a great run in garbage time, but idk I'm far from sold on them over 82 games next year, especially with the top half of the Atlantic being what it is.

It's crazy that we got basically the same package in 7OA, DeAngelo for the corpse of Stepan and Raanta.

In fairness it seems like we were the only team in the league that knew that 27 year old Stepan was about to decline like Mike Richards and Joe Juneau
