It's probably slim at this point.

The guys still on the board, based upon a Consolidated lists ranking are;

25th Firkus
28th Chesley
29th Trikozov
30th Odelius
31st Hutson
34th Beck
35th Havelid
36th Casey
37th Del Bel Belluz
38th Goyette
Damn. Think you’re right though. Hopefully teams continue with some off the board picks and Chesley or Gleb somehow make it to the Leafs pick.

Traded back 13 spots for 3.8*2 in cap space.

And $8m. Could have been much worse but let's cut the mistakes. How many mistakes does a GM get when he hasn't been able to take the 105 point team with the best player to ever play on the Leafs, he inherited past the first round in 4 tries ??

I really don't get the obsession with DBB. He is not going to be BPA at 38. He was awful in the OHL playoffs and has had consistency issues the entire year; never mind his skating.

There are things to like, but he is a run-of-the-mill guy who should not be taken until closer to the mid-2nd. We are not drafting in the mid-2nd.

Oh, yeah, there is a problem with this team.

At this point, my hope is that Calgary and/or Winnipeg decide to rebuild, and Hellebuyck or Markstrom become available, and we trade for them. We shall see. I think @JT AM da real deal ends up happy when we end up with Beck tomorrow.

I think Leafs are eying Huston or Gleb. I'd prefer Gleb, but who knows about the potential difficulties and even what Russian/North America relations are like in 2 years.

I do wonder how many Shane Wright #51 jerseys were bought in MTL prior to this. Do they all go to some developing nation like all the championship gear made for the losing teams in finals?

Well, the Colorado avalanche had 8 seasons to get it all under control finally and they got the cup after drafting Mackinnon first overall. And before that, they had Gabriel Landeskog at 2nd two before that... so...?

He's made mistakes yea but like we can't just be like FIRE HIM AND GO NEXT.

He has a cool name. That's all I can think.

Those guys inherited a bad team though. Very few GM's inherit a team that is filled with young stars and is coming off two playoff appearances.

Shanny and Sakic I believe started at the same time, I believe the only difference was we had a changing of guards in the GM position, while Sakic then got full autonomy and in fact wanted to poach Dubas from us, and we denied him as he was given the President Position as well? I do believe the biggest difference was we had more picks versus them while they had more ready-made players from previous years. I cant recall fully at the moment.

Colorado had some major down years which allowed them to pick up their second wave of Rantanen and Makar and cash out on some of the old core pieces like Duchene, Barrie and O’Reilly, and get some major finishing pieces through trade.

The equivalent would be sort of like if this Leaf era goes off the rails and we get some lottery picks over the next couple of years and then go on to win with a Matthews, Bedard, Marner core or something like that.

Cagey move?

The other thing the Leafs considered before making the move was the players available. They players they really wanted at 25 weren’t there anymore. But a bunch of players a level down were. They believe at least one of them will be available at 38 on Friday.

“There were a number of players that we would like to have been there,” said Dubas. “And then once they came off and once we knew what the options were, we decided to make the move."

“Part of the process of going through is considering if is there a large enough collection of players that, if you move back just the 13 spots, could you get somebody there that’s in that next range? And that’s what we felt. And we feel good about that now.”

“So moving back was the best option, you see Edmonton did the same after we did.”

It may be a cagey move. It’s believed the depth of the draft is quite strong, even though the top of the draft lacked star power. A player selected at 38 — the early second round — may be just as good as any late first-rounders.
Travis Dermott – chosen 34th in the 2015 draft — is an example of trading down to the second round.

Murray has HUGE negative value big cap hit and real $$ goes up each of the next 2 seasons too. Also, he hasnt had a decent season in 4 years and cant stay healthy.
Mrazek had ONE rough injury plagued season, and there is no reason to believe he doesnt bounce back ...that said, i hope we deal him.
You probably didn't notice the Mrazek has an escalating salary also where his cap his is $3.8 mil but is owed $4.2 mil in 2022-23 and $4.4 mil in 2023-24 [8.6 mil combined]

Just a few months back at the Trade deadline the Leafs put Mrazek in waivers in hopes someone would take him for Free and all 31 teams passed, so the Leafs sent him to the AHL and recalled Kallgren instead.

If you can't give something away for free, then perhaps you have to add to have someone haul it away or as I call it negative value.

If you thought last year 2021-22 was bad and injury filled then you must have missed the prior season when he dressed for only 12 games total in 2020-21 or 32 games over the course of the last 2 years.

On the last point you and I agree .. I hope they deal him, with the qualifier being I hope its not too costly to do so,
