Yeah, we're not in the spot of moving up to the top 10 area. Where Nazar will go imo.

We got couple of RFAs to trade up with. Geo and our first could get us somewhere I hope.

(not that I'd really want to move up, although we kinda hit those out of the park.)

Nazar should definitely go top 10 but it’s really interesting seeing him outside the top 20 North American skaters on central scouting’s list. I’d be all over him a trade if he slips.

I don't think we have the draft capital to do it as of now but it's worth pointing out that the last 2 times they moved up in the first round they picked Miller and Schneider.

I'm confident they make the right call if it comes to that.

Not even using a player?

Chaz Lucius' brother Cruz is draft eligible this year. Plays similarly to his brother. Likely to be in the range of the Rangers' pick. Other names to look for include Noah Ostlund, Markus Vidicek, Nathan Gaucher, all center that can be in range when the Rangers pick.

This is a very strong USNTP crop. Cooley, McGroarty, Jack Hughes II, Nazar, Howard, Chesley, Casey, and Devine all have a good chance of going top 15 next June. First three are center prospects that will likely be out of NYR's range barring a catastrophe.
Rangers taking a left wing with their first, who's rated 64th by Central Scouting. Book it.

If they don't have a first they'll take a diminutive right side , righty Dman ranked 99th by the Hockey News with their second.

Lindboms sister at goal on the radar too.

Heh, it's just interesting how things change in a few months. Ostlund, Chesley, and Devine not even on 1st round radars anymore. Give me Osltlund with our 2nd for sure if he's still there. The Rangers should be taking all centers with their high picks. This year's crop is deep.

Ostlund and Chesley are first round locks in my opinion.

Any Brandon Dubinsky types of center with an edge and good on the draw in the draft in the 1st or 2ed round that the Rangers can actually draft? Rangers need depth at center ice badly.

As already mentioned and shown by the ratings, this draft is all over the place.

Although we have we a lot more scouting reports/ agencies now. Some will be obscure.

I would draft the best offensive player available. Sniper or playmaker, with hands.

Nathan Gaucher

Granted I haven't followed this years draft at all, but just from a quick glance I'd be more open to this if he weren't a late 2003 birthday.

Being under a PPG in the CHL at this point really just screams bottom sixer at best and while thats far from the end of the world for a later 1st round pick, I'd hope to shoot a bit higher than that.

I do think that if we're going to focus on drafting for "need", a 2 way center with bite is the right way to go. Might be a better idea to target one later who may have more (or different) question marks but has more room to grow.

My top 25 centers for the draft:

1. Shane Wright
2. Logan Cooley

3. Frank Nazar
4. Matthew Savoie
5. Connor Geekie
6. Noah Ostlund
7. Marco Kasper

8. David Goyette
9. Nathan Gaucher
10. Jack Hughes
11. Filip Bystedt
12. Victor Neuchev
13. Jordan Gustafson

14. Aleksanteri Kaskimaki
15. Adam Ingram
16. Owen Beck
17. Topi Ronni
18. Danny Zhilkin
19. Bryce McConnell-Barker
20. Servac Petrovsky
21. Ryan Greene
22. Luca Del Bel Belluz
23. Matthew Poitras
24. Rieger Lorenz
25. Paul Ludwinski

Italicized the question marks for sticking at center.

Bolded those with stronger defensive games and most likely two way potential.

Gaucher is a pretty underwhelming prospect, and I’d be frustrated he ended up being our pick. There’s really no excuse to not take whichever of the USNTDP kids are still available, and I’d even move up to nab one.

I get that Gaucher was playing more of a secondary role behind Bolduc, but his best attributes are really just being big and being able to outman smaller juniors defenders. I don’t see enough skill to make him anything more than a depth player.

A kid like McGroarty has plus skills across the board in everything outside skating, but he knows how to make that work for him and utilize his skills to beat defenders in small areas of the ice. If they want size, I’d rather have the player like that.

My only problem with McGroarty is that he projects as a winger. If he stuck at center, I'd even move up for him.

You gotta hope Drury is smart at the draft and gets some picks back. Cut the loose ends like Gauthier, Georgiev, Hajek. Depending on how they project the $ situation to look, Blais and/or Reaves may be in that group as well. Maybe you can shop the rights to Strome for a late pick. We'll see how things play out with our 1st and 2nd round picks but as it sits no 3rd or 7th this year. Next year no 3rd, 4th or 5th. Those guys should be able to plug up those missing spots. Definitely would like to get back into the 3rd. Kyrous brother Christian is ranked down at 48th for NHLs NA skaters and Jordan Dumais is all the way down at 73! Two of the best players this past series, Fox and Guentzel, were both 3rd rounders. Plenty of opportunity to find dynamic talent there

There is some value to be had with our RFAs.

Gauthier: 3rd
Hájek: 5th
Kravtsov: late 1st/early 2nd

Maybe even Hunt for a 3rd or 4th rounder who is signed for another year.

Georgiev won't be RFA because they need to give him a 2.65m QO to retain his rights.

Húska, Letunov and Merkley are Group 6 UFA

With the influx of new centers in Henriksson, Rydahl, Korczak, Edström and Rempe, it's interesting to see what the team does with Khodorenko and Richards. 2 players who have some upside but they don't seem to be given the trust of the coaching staff and I wouldn't be surprised if 1 or even both are moving to different teams this summer. Not sure that'll be in a trade or as a free agent.

I’d say the same for Gaucher, especially since it’ll help him manage the puck better along the walls.

That doesn’t matter as much to me as much as simply getting good players does. McGroarty has always been a top player relative to his peers, and I could see him being similar to a guy like David Perron who is just solid all around and can top out around 65 points. The issues with his skating are really on with his first few steps, and that can be corrected with coaching.

Best of luck getting a 3rd for Gauthier.

If all you're going for with Krav is a late 1st early 2nd, why bother? He's got a lot of upside, way more than typical for that draft position on top of the fact he should be an NHL ready and cost controlled player. At this point roll the dice with him on the NYR roster unless you are getting something comparable... And yes, I understand no one may be willing to offer that... so just KEEP him.
