I wish Nylander gets the second line and more minutes then Tavares. He is younger and thrives in playing a lot. Tavares can do a lot with little, and could need all his strenght coming playoffs.

Did Nylander play with Ironhook any yet? maby Tvares need that dude. i dont now.

Jarnkrok - Kerf- Nyl ?

Or Jarn -Nyl - malgin
Rob, Tav Kerf

Bah i dont know, i just want them separated and Nylander to have more icetime , not less.

If it dont work , go back to ?-Tav-Nyl Live a little!

No matter the combination we will be too soft for the playoffs yet again
Agreed, the Dubas obsession with small skilled is troubling. i understand that it is difficult to find a large or mid sized skilled forward, but I keep seeing Lawson Crouse in the Leaf lineup as a key to getting by the first round.

Agreed. I don't understand how people can't see this. You need to be able to grind other teams down in a playoff series. If the leafs could win in 4 every series our fast and skilled strategy works. But over a 6 or 7 game series, if you don't have guys who can grind down the other teams top players, you're not winning a series.

Saying that, someone like Kyle Clifford is not the answer. Simmonds at this point is a little too slow to get in and force an effective forecheck. AK and ZAR on the 4th line should help with this. But it's not enough yet.

My hope is Benn makes his way into the lineup in a bottom pairing role and helps with the lack of toughness. Other than that we need another mean, strong skating, bottom 6 forward who can fill that role. Hopefully it's addressed by the deadline.

If Engvall actually played to his size we'd be in good shape. He looks life a giraffe and plays like a mouse.

Who is too small at forward?

sandin should be scratched for the first few dozen games to teach him a lesson
:help:

When were the leafs soft last playoffs? They lost because of of lack of playing efficacy on the 4th line. Please cite some examples where a soft core proved to be the leafs downfall.
We were bigger then than we are now. And the Bolts series was a bit unique in that it was called like regular season. Not to mention being tougher could have made the difference regardless of the 4th line disparity.

There's a 100 years of playoff hockey history that tells us the Leafs are too soft as it stands.

Our fourth line last year in the playoffs consisted of Spezza, Blackwell and Kase… Skill wise that’s great but role and effectiveness it was awful comparing to other teams shutdown lines.

Having a line with Aston Reese, Kampf and Aube Kubel will definitely be a nice change of scenery and something we have desperately needed for quite some time.

The last time I was somewhat excited to watch our fourth line was when we had Orr and McLaren. They didn’t know how to play hockey but they at least knew how to hit and fight. Our new fourth line knows how to hit but also play the game of hockey.

There is literally nothing in hockey's history that tells us that the Leafs are "too soft" to win. Our "toughness" (which is consistent with other teams) has had and will have absolutely zero impact on our success. You know full well that you would have said the exact same thing about Colorado last year.

So glad we aren't trotting out a bunch of slow, over the hill "toughness" this year.

The bottom 6 is fast, pesky and tenacious. Will be a pain in the ass to play against.
I think that's all anyone wanted from the bottom of the lineup.
No one wanted 'slow, over the hill'.

Haven't seen it here yet.

How bout a an all swede line????

I present to you, the Swedish Elite.

Engvall-Nylander-Jarnkrok

Novelty aside, that actually seems like a good fit with all the pieces and a hell of third line.

I'm not a fan of Kerfoot playing Centre again, I thought he was much better at LW. The team hasn't really had a great 3rd Centre with this core except for Kadri for 1 year.

Maybe there's statistics that show he's a better Centre but from the eye test to me, his lines with him at Centre were not producing aside from when he played with Nylander and Galchenyuk that one series.

I view Kampf as an elite 4th Centre but not 3rd. He suprised me a lot offensively last season, but while he is a good player I still view him as a 4C.

A trade later on of Engvall + for a rental 3C at 50% I think is the move to make. We dont have really many legit Centres in our system, and we should expect one of Robertson, Malgin, Knies, Holmberg to take that middle 6 winger spot. I know Holmberg is playing Centre, but I thought he was always a winger.

Kadri was total poop that one year at 3C too unfortunately.

Holmberg definitely looks like a C to me. Question is whether he has enough offense for a 3rd line, or is just another Kampf.

His offensive instincts look a lot better than Kampf to me

I'm not convinced that if everyone were healthy that the lines would stay this way.

The only impressive forward is Nylander. Maybe Tavares.

The Matthews line isn't going at this point (yes it's just 2 games), the 3rd line is being driven by Kerfoot who is a bonehead, and the 4th line is sort of invisible (designed to check-yes I know).

The D pairings look vulnerable at times. The Gio-Sandin line is not quite up to comfort level. The Holl/Muzzin line will be exploited throughout the season.

I'm not saying that it all needs to be torn down, but it needs tweeking.

I actually think that Bunting is going to be one of the first changes. I think he feels too comfortable on the top line. I think Keefe feels that way too. I think I'd like to see one of the Marlies or Jarnkrok playing on the top line.

Don't forget - the top line really struggled for 6-8 games last year as well.

Sometimes I wonder if Malgin might be a good fit for line 1 - I like Bunts, but I feel like he's wasted a few really nice set ups.

Malgin - AM - MM
Bunts - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kerfoot - Jarnkrok
ZAR - Kampf - NAK

I agree that the D looks vulnerable. I am just not sold on Holl and Sandin long term, the D is just too clunky and slow.

Mo - Bro
Muzzin - Soucy/Orlov
Gio - Lilly

I am hoping for something like this in the playoffs.

I think that Malgin on the top line would be a big mistake.
