Robertson is so tantalising to me. You can see the potential there for a 30 goal scorer with the way he sniped that goal last night. Was impressed with him rushing the puck up the ice last night as well. Showed glimpses of some play driving potential that i didnt know he had. Still needs to add strength and improve skating but I have high hopes for him. Hope to see him split time with the leafs and marlies 50/50 this year

I am still having a hard time buying malgin as a 2nd or 3rd line winger versus holmberg at center

I just feel jarnkrok and tavares will work.. tavares defensively needs wingers that are there when he comes out from behind the net with the puck and jarnkrok will be there

Kerfoot/tavares/jarnkrok
Engvall/holmberg/nylander

I would like to see it tried anyhow

So who are we losing to waivers and who makes it to the Marlies?

Guadette? Benn? Mete? Are they only ones at risk of us losing a depth player?

I assume ZAR and NAK are sticking on the 4th line. Do we lose

If that's the case I'm not worried about losing anyone to waivers. Dime a dozen player list right there, although I did like Gaudette's hustle in his first game his injury will factor in him getting possibly claimed. Wouldn't mind seeing more from him

that 4th line looking more and more like a certainty. beauty.

I really like McMann and wanna see him make it on the 4th line but that 4th line looks pretty damn solid

I watched an excellent hockey team be excellent thru an 82 game schedule, 6 months of satisfying Leaf hockey, I enjoyed the season with the only downer being people obsessing about a further possible 20 games.

Enjoying those 82 games is again possible this year and should be, what really needs to be obsessed about is trading away TO's future for the sake of those possible 20 games.

Is what Chicago did to win 3 Cups enjoyable for their fans now, do those fans feel it was worth getting those 3 Cups with the proviso that they will now have to endure years of futile teams.

The playoffs are there solely to line billionaire's pockets, for the media to have more to write about, be satisfied with what we have to follow and consider anything beyond the regular season a bonus, you'll be far happier and appreciative of what you're watching.

As a general rule the best regular season team doesn't win the Cup, that doesn't mean it wasn't the best team.
Bro I'd endure years of pain for ONE cup, let alone 3 like Chicago did. If we won 3 cups I could die happy, if we won none and went 82-0 every regular season I would die some day a miserable old man

It's interesting - I'm a big fan of the ZAR pickup (for cheap) because he's a proven good defensive forward against tough usage and with more than 4th line minutes over a bunch of years now.

BUT, we haven't actually signed ZAR, and that 4th line LW spot would be the most logical place for McMann to win a spot.

But then we'd be a little iffier on using that 4th line in tough defensive matchups.

Anyways he doesn't have to clear waivers so we'll likely see him as an injury call up at some point.

The importance of our depth and options shouldn't be overlooked.

I think this is a huge issue. Having the capability of calling up a Gaudette, Malgin, Anderson, or Mete gives us options, with different looks.

I believe the others are waiver exempt.

I would say. When “fully healthy”

Bunting. Matthews. Marner
————- Tavares. Jarnkrok
Engvall. Kerfoot. Nylander
zAR. Kampf. NAK

Would be an option if willy/JT doesn’t work
JT biggest strength is grinding and playing with lesser players. Like a poor man’s crosby.

getting nylander softer minutes could destroy teams.
I think the 4th line could be a good matchup line.

Reading this board, listening to several podcasts and Toronto sports radio, there seems to be a lot of questions beginning with “if” and “who”.

To win a round a lot will have to fall into place.
All of the podcast and fans say they same thin. Leafs will be good. they will make the playoffs. Then the questions start. WHY? if they are good. If they are top 5, then someone will end up stopping the pucks. The goals will be scored. The defense will play good. No one makes sense in this market.

I think most people believe they still have a few passengers that hinder their chances at winning in the playoffs.

Why cant Tavares be on the third line?
Oh yeah, i forgot, hes hurt again..

Bunt mat marn
Jarn holm nyl
Rob Tav Ewall

I personally think Holl and Engvall are two very expendable players that could be moved to free up some cap. Guys like Malgin, Robertson, Steeves, Holmberg, Mcmann are all capable of replacing Engvall and when the D is healthy holl is our #7.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Malgin Jarnkrok Kerfoot
Zar Kampf Nak

Muzzin Reilly
Sandin Brodie
Gio Liljegren

Murray
Samsonov

What I would love to see

Move Sandin, Kerfoot, 1st Round pick + prospect for Chychrun
Move Holl for a pick
Move Engvall for a pick

Bunting-Matthews-Jarnkrok
Robertson-Tavares-Marner
Nylander-Holmberg-Malgin
Auble-Kampf-ZAR
Steeves

Rielly-Chychrun
Muzzin-Brodie
Giordano-Liljegren
Mete

Murray
Samsonov

I’m very interested in the Keefe at 4C experiment, but is it enough to put us over the top? 😜

I kbow alot of guys are impressing us this training camp but i dont think you can automatically count on two let alone 3 to just be an 82 game plus impact player already.. dumping a bunch of nhl guys just to fit in the new guys i dont think is ideal

while we need to tip toe around the money i think some of these replacements happen next year

steeves for engvall
holmberg for kerfoot
Robertson potentially for bunting
Malgin who knows
Mcmann for aston reese

Looks about right. I think Malgin will start the year with the big club to see if he's in the plans, or needs to move on.
