2022 Line Combinations

I can STILL see reality with my very flawed Hockey team tho!

I wonder if the idiot portion of Leaf Nation will pile on me, for speaking up about that? Many sure love to, to anyone who doesn't "rah rah rah" along with them!!

This is just a brainstorm based on two pre-season games, I am not even sure I like these combinations but I want to at least write these down somewhere. This has a lot to do with playing waivers well...I don't want to lose Malgin, Anderson and possibly Mete for nothing...comments welcome

Robertson hasn't impressed so far imo. Holmberg, Malgin, and Steeves have had a good start. Maybe Keefe tries to force Gaudette on the 3rd line before waiving him. Wouldn't mind seeing the the Tavares line loaded up. Mete-Benn isn't ideal but when you're down 3 D it could be worse - maybe Muzzin will be back.

Yes agreed.. i think holmberg is making the case and engvall works on that line 2 configuration

If need be as well can go
Kerfoot - tavares - jarnkrok
Engvall - holmberg - nylander

If keefe does the three line idea again

ZAR-Kampf-NAK looks like it could be the first good 4th line for the Leafs in years.

The 3rd line + 2nd line LW spot seems more open. Guys like Jarnkrok, Malgin, Kerfoot, Holmberg, Engvall, and Robertson are all in the mix. Maybe Steeves and Gaudette are possibilities as well.

The defensive depth isn't as noteworthy. I like the top 7 once Sandin signs and Mete looks like a fine #8, but I really hope we never see Benn or Dahlstrom get into games

Gaudette has played over 200 games in this league, with three different teams.

If he was as good as Bunting he would’ve shown it by now.
 
ZAR-Kampf-NAK reminds me of that Bruins 4th line that gave us hell in the playoffs.

Awesome to have our own version. No doubt there's questions with the 3rd line but having what appears to be a great 4th line will help offset that.

Benn was a fulltime #7D for a very good Wild team last year, playing in over half the games, until a deadline move pushed him down to #8.

Looks like he's #8/9 here to start.

Mete - Benn
Kokkonen - Villeneuve
Kral - Dahlstrom

All guys with either significant NHL experience or legit NHL upside.
 
We have too many forwards, I honestly don't know what to do.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Engvall - Tavares - Jarnkrok
Nylander - Kerfoot - Malgin
ZAR - Kampf - NAK

I want to find space for Holmberg too, but not sure how.

Maybe don't sign ZAR, move Engvall down to 4LW, Kerfoot to 2LW, and Holmberg at 3C.

Who knows, we have once again signed too many good players.

Can also swap Jarnkrok and Marner if you want two really good first lines.

That 2nd line will be fine regular season but brutal in the playoffs with Tavares flanked by 2 wingers that refuse to engage (a more polite way of saying soft). I believe Kampf will be the mainstay 3C and come playoff time, although I like Holmberg I'd prefer Kampf's experience.

But one thing you can count on is that Keefe will shuffling be the lines like a Vegas blackjack dealer all season long.

I think Engvall has a chance to give that line exactly what it needs - speed and strength and defense and possession, with a bit of offense too.

He's garbage. Just the typical pre-season redemption spin story that people cling to. Not even sure he'd give much more than Simmonds on this team.

Also, people need to stop with this "next Bunting" spiel. There is not going to be another Bunting for quite a while; a rare group 6 UFA who was dominant in the AHL, immediately productive (.5PPG) in the NHL, yet mismanaged by one of the worst orgs in the league. It was the perfect storm. NAK isn't Bunting either, not close.

It's clear that the idiot is the one who only sees rainbows and lollipops during shitstorms. And then some of them demand that OTHERS only see those rainbows and lollipops. Well that was all fun and stuff for awhile(like when I was a kid)......not so much any more. :)

And it's a perfect adjective for that portion. Which appears to be about 80% of this board now, as most of the good, knowledgeable, rational posters have left because of the said adjective posters who are tone deaf to themselves and their name calling.

This team lost by 1 goal to the 2 time champs who lost in the finals. And it looks like the Leafs depth choices are more varied and better than in years gone by.
