This was a weak draft... Samberg is still #3. None of us know anything about McGR.
We know he's put up a pile of points at every level he's ever played, captained many teams, and is addressing his biggest weakness with one of the most renowned skating coaches in the world.

Not to mention he's not afraid to play a more physical style game and go to hard areas night in and night out

Let’s mix it up and consider a tie when one or two votes separate the two players so early in the rankings.

I think a better representation of rankings.

I went with Lambert because I think he has the highest ceiling of the group.
Samberg will be an everyday NHL player, but he won't be a top pairing guy.
Lambert might totally bust, but he also might be a first line star.

Samberg has legit ice time in the NHL and has looked good.

Yes, its nice that McGroarty has a skating coach though.

Samberg looked good with Dillon...not so good with Pionk (but Pionk had a really rough year).

Voted McG because hope springs eternal and all that.

I voted for Chisholm. I still think he is the best mix of puck mover with some offense but doesn’t play small. In my opinion our best all-around defensive prospect.

Really like Heinola but is more one dimensional and I think Chisholm fares better with the physicality over a full season in the NHL.

Watched Chaz a couple times at Minnesota and I have some pretty big concerns about his skating. I am hoping it was more to do with coming back from his knee injury and how it was handled at Minnesota.
Chaz is interesting to watch. You never feel like he's doing much then suddenly the puck is in the back of the net in a very unspectacular way. Then he keeps doing it. He never really seems to need to be a good skater because he's so good at just being in the right place. Problem is whether that can carry on at the next level, it would be a great thing if he could improve his skating.

Went for Samberg, was between him and Chisholm. Chisholm was better at the AHL level but Samberg showed he could play in the NHL. Higher ceiling for Chisholm.

McGroarty all the way. Potential 1C likely a 2C. All the traits you want except exceptional skating. Going to be a leader and future captain.

Don't see 1C upside but can see two-way 2C if things come together for him but he very well may only be a 3C as well if they don't.

Went with Rutger, but there are so many guys that are close. Arguments can be made for Samberg, Lucius, Chibrikov, Rashevsky, Chisholm and Lambert.

After those guys Gus and Barron in the next tier imo with a good floor but not a high ceiling.

I don't know how anybody could think he has higher upside. Higher floor, better chance of becoming an NHL player, fine there's an argument there, but in terms of upside Samberg is nowhere close to Heinola.
Heinola's ceiling is 2nd pair and I think if he's your #3 you're in trouble.

Just to pump Chisholm's tires a bit, I don't think many people realize just how elite he was in the AHL last year as a 21-22 year old. His skating is already above NHL average and by many measures he was among the very best defensemen in the AHL last year, and the eye test matched that. It's easy to get caught up in some of the gaffes he made (he definitely made a few) but considering it was his first real full year of pro it was a very impressive and promising season for him. At this point I have very high hopes for him.

Serious question.
Who will be better, Rutger or Chaz? Chaz isn't getting much love compared to Rutger.
Recency bias. Shiny new toy syndrome. Injured vs not.

Hasn't been a ton of information about Chaz since the initial hype died down during the post-draft hoopla. His injury and (mis-)handling of it left him as kind of a non-entity. I think he falls quite far in the rankings because nobody knows what to think.

Went Samberg here. Others with higher ceilings but I think he carves out a very solid career. He'll be somewhat unexciting (good) and put up only respectable numbers (also good given he'll likely ceiling at 2nd pair with no pp time) but will be a staple on the PK. We need that.

His point totals are also pretty impressive when you take into account he didn't play on the 1st pp unit last year.

Actually there was a good stretch where the 1st PP unit included him, Heinola, and Gawanke. It was a strange formation but probably the right one to go with considering where the talent was on the team.

He has the potential to be a decent sweetener in the Wheeler contract dump trade :wg:

Ah I must have missed that section of the year.

Totally agree. He was the best player for either team in that series with the Admirals. I didn't catch any Moose regular season games but watched that series and was taken aback by just how good he looked. Smooth skater, great instincts offensively and defensively, smart puck-mover. If I was only basing my vote on that series he would be my pick here. It's nice to see posters who watched more Moose games than I affirm his talents.

It would be a big win for this scouting group if he pans out.
