When there was talk that even if Lalonde was fired, he wouldn’t be fired mid-season, I argued that the Wings should absolutely fire him mid-season so they could see how their players perform under a different coach with a different system; that it would give them a better idea of what their assets were going into the off-season, whether their guys were underperforming due to circumstances or due to talent.

This is exactly what’s taking place now. We’re finding that guys like Marco and AlJo can thrive in the NHL, and that guys like Compher, Ras, and Holl are probably always going to be held back by brains and talent regardless of the coach or system. That’s huge for team composition plans going forward. We could’ve traded Marco for Cozens, used AlJo as a trade throw-in (or worse yet, waived him), or wasted money buying out Gus if we had held onto Lalonde throughout the year. Now we have a much clearer picture of what we have and don’t have. Thank god.

This is an example of the dog piling on CHiarot that isnt warranted lol. Theyve both been great under McLellan and that pairing is handling really hard minutes while thriving.

He’s been OK. We’re seeing him defer to Seider more under TMac, but that doesn’t make him good. He’s a low level #4 or decent #5. I appreciate what he brings. I’d rather see him on the ice 4-5 minutes less per game and have Seider out there with a real top 4 D.

Sure, but Ed does the same with not committing fully to them. There are times when he should be the first to the puck, but hesitates too much. I am sure you have noticed this too.

I think Ed is looking for ways to win the puck without taking himself out of the play by locking himself to the boards. I don't hate it, necessarily. My namesake did the same. Picking his spots is something that will come with experience. I don't get any sense that Chiarot has ever learned anything. He just chases. I have seen Ed adapt in the very short time he's been here.
