Everyone who watched hockey and didnt just watch boxscores knew Helm was scoring in junior because of his crazy speed. He was always considered a Grabner type guy, and not a real "scoring" prospect. Pretty sure I remember people on here comparing him to Maltby as in hes going to be good, but not a scorer when he hits the league. It also showed up in his assist numbers. Offensive NHL players make plays in junior because play is facilitated through them, that never happened with Helm.

Kasper has to show scoring at the NHL level and so far he hasnt? Thats because hes barely got the chance, and in his first healthy preseason he is showing some offensive ability to go along with a lot of other good things in his game. Hes got 1 point in 2 games playing with very meh linemates and has created the most chances on the team at even strength most likely.

Helm and Kasper are a dumb comparison. You want to see more scoring? Thats totally fine and I wont argue too much with people who want him sent down to score more. But to make comparisons between his game and Helms is just really lazy.

Do you think Kasper will be better offensively than Joe Veleno after watching this preseason?

Darren would have put up 5+ goals per season if he ever figured out how to convert breakaways and odd man rushes. That's actually not a huge ask. Nobody said he's a top line center, but he was projecting to be a really good 3C even to the point that Babcock was praising him, and you know that's a rare event. Not to mention he even got PP time with Datsyuk for a while.

Joey has limited hockey IQ, Kasper is already a better passer..... but Joey's actually a good shooter at 11.9 career SH% and 14 last season. His career SH% is better than DBoss or Kane. He just reverts to playing a safe game and not trying to drive the play. We saw that last season. If Kasper could convert at the same rate, we wouldn't even be having a conversation, I'd be on the bandwagon too.

Lazy comparison is just naming elite players that you want Kasper to become. Right now, the way he played so far this preseason, Helm is a legit comparable. We'll see how he does with Kane/Tank tonight, and hope he has more.

It appears, if one exists, the last forward spot is between Mazur, ND and Kasper. Given the thread, let us say it is Marco. Where do you slot him in?

SIDE NOTE: Duing the last telecast, Mickey and Ken presented the likely opening day roster. No prospect forwards were penciled in.

I think the only way Kasper makes the roster this season is if Fester decides to split Tank and Kane, in which case Kasper/Burger wind up playing sheltered minutes with Tank. I don't see that happening until midseason, but in any case, Marco is the most NHL ready out of the 3 mentioned.

Helm is an abjectly terrible comp.

I think there are a few spots I could see Kasper on the team.

You could stick him at winger and reunite Kane/DBC as Ray/Lark/DBC hasn't entirely been tearing it up pre-season.

Kasper-Larkin-Ray (Kasper is excellent at puck retrieval and would help with space for these two)
DBC-Compher-Kane
Bergy-Ras-Tank or Bergy-Veleno-Tank
Fisher-Copp-Mott or Fisher-Copp-Ras

That would give us 3 pretty solid scoring lines and one shut down. Either Motte or Veleno would be the 13th forward. I'd lean Veleno as the 13th because I like the physicality that Motte and Kasper bring.

OR you have Kasper center the 3rd line.
DBC-Larkin-Ray (Kasper is excellent at puck retrieval and would help with space for these two)
Tank-Compher-Kane
Bergy- Kasper-Ras
Fisher-Copp-Motte

If Tank/Kane don't put any chemistry together. Pop Ras on line one, DBC to 2, and Tank to 3.

What I really like about Kasper is that he is an excellent forechecker, and in that sense I can get Gniwder's Helm comparison. We haven't had a great forechecker on this team since Helm's prime. One of the things this team has struggled with is getting the puck in 50/50 battles, so I think a guy like Kasper could be a great support player on one of these lines even if his shot and passing aren't 100% developed yet. He at least looks to have the instincts where he could work with skilled players. More along the line of a prime Mac or Homer than say a Draper or Helm. Draper and Helm could cycle the puck like no ones business but 90% of the time it wasn't going anywhere but the boards. Mac and Homer had deceptive skill that while they were never going to push the offensive themselves they could work and help guys that were more skilled than them.

Top 9, got it. To your list of four add Kasper. I will search , but near certain I deleted the telecast. They had JV,centering Burger and Motte with Watson as 13. They also walked through the log jam on the blue line and in net and concluded that if any prospect were to be added, they would need to make a trade/waive. Of course, they said anything is possible, but thought all the prospects who didn't need waivers would start the year in GR.

I prefer first, because Kasper will help with physicality our #1 player Larkin.
I trust more DBC than Tarasenko on the second line and chemistry between Kane and DBC .
Tarasenko will give scoring touch on the third line and he will be good mentor to Berggren.

I've been pushing for this center lineup since day 1 (though I had ND in the #2 slot). The problem is roster management.

FORWARDS

Your Group has 14

D
Moritz Seider, Ben Chiarot, Simon Edvinsson, Erik Gustafsson, Olli Maatta, Jeff Petry, AJo,
Justin Holl

NET

Talbot, Husso, Lyon

With your roster, it would seem only the net is in question. (You may be, at times, a contrarian, but you are not a fool. Anyone thinking Holl sticks around falls into that category.)

Again, I am good with the forward line-up you propose. In fact, I want this line-up. I was only relaying what Mickey and Ken put on the screen during the Leafs game.
