Apparently Brossoit will be re evaluated November 1st. You gotta wonder what's gonna happen should he get cleared to play. Don't think Vegas has the cap space to activate Brossoit and both Hill and Thompson have played well so far.

Brossoit is on IR, not LTIR. His cap hit is already counting right now and we're fine.

They would only need the roster spot by sending someone down to activate him.

I imagine they'll trade whichever of Hill and Brossoit that they can before the end of 2022, after Brossoit gets a few games to prove he's healed.

They should waive Brasser. He showed nothing last year and Hill has been better than I expected.

Waiving him would kill any value, and we'd have to either hold 1.2 million in dead cap all year or pay a premium to move him.

If we can give him three or four starts against easier opponents and protect him so he can look decent and prove he's healthy we may be able to get rid of the entire cap hit by waiting a bit for someone's goalie to get injured, which usually happens to a few teams.

Just to get Brossoit on the roster someone would need to be waived then. I wouldn't risk Cotter or Hutton so Leschyshyn is the only option I think.

As of right now I don't see a team that will trade for him. Buffalo's goalies have been better than expected thus far and I don't think any teams have had long term injuries to open up a spot thus far. I think it's a safe bet Brossoit is going to hit waivers in the near future and I don't think he'll be claimed. Eventually he'll find a home when a team has an injury and needs a goalie.

Waiving him would add value if he passes because the team getting him would know that he could be sent down until he is active for 10 games or 30 days in the NHL without having to pass waivers.

Normally I think you're right, but I don't think any team would be trading for him to pay him 3 million real dollars, and have 1.2 million dead cap to play him for a month then bury him in the AHL though. They would trade for him to be the starter or backup every night.

I think it just hurts our negotiating position, although having three NHL goalies and wanting to move cap does that to a significant degree already.

If we look at teams whose goaltending looks shaky early on, there's maybe LA, Minnesota, Anaheim and New Jersey.

LA and Minnesota either are cap strapped, tied to a goalie it's hard to toss away or looking for a starter should they trade so they probably won't.

Anaheim is probably not helping their goalies very much, aren't trying to win and content with the two they have, although if they trade Gibson (though his stats for the past three seasons and start of this one may have dented his value) picking up someone like Brossoit as a stopgap for free wouldn't be out of the question.

But New Jersey could have interest for free, and I could see Ottawa being interested in a free experienced backup.

Brossoit has zero value right now. In fact, because of his contract, he probably has negative value. He's coming off a very serious injury that could be career threatening. Even the last season he played was poor. The only way for Vegas to get an actual asset for Brossoit would be to waive him first and maybe retain some salary as well.

Of course Vegas could also trade Thompson or Hill but those are two good goalies who have provided the team with nothing but solid goaltending while Brossoit, at this point, is a question mark at best. Of course Vegas could keep three goalies on the roster but that's a shortterm solution at best. When has the three goalie model ever worked? I think it makes sense to waive Brossoit and go from there. Chances of him getting claimed are not very good though.

If they don't wanna risk losing Brossoit until they know more about what they've got in him an option that nobody mentioned yet would be to just send Thompson to Henderson because he's waiver exempt. That would give them time to evaluate Brossoit and they could still call up Thompson whenever they need him. Not much of a popular move but I could see Vegas go there if they're high on Brossoit...which I doubt they are...but you never know.

Either way, expect Vegas to buy time by sending Brossoit to Henderson for a conditioning stint. Brossoit will of course have to agree to that but if he doesn't he'll probably just get his ass waived.
