Toronto had the #2 PP in the regular season while the Comets were #27 while on the PK.

Comets didn't even put up a fight on the 2 scoring PPs.

Even if the refs game manage and give the Comets close to the same number of PP chances, it's not likely to matter since the Comets were #31 out of 32 teams on the PP at the end of the regular season.

Special teams will not favor the Comets.

The Comets took an early 2-0 lead and just like the previous game allowed the Marlies to climb right back into it and the first ended even at 2.

This time the Comets recovered and started the second working hard again. They got a goal at 6:56 from Stevens.

6 minutes later 2 veterans, Wotherspoon and Schmelzer broke out on a 2on1. Wotherspoon smartly took a very purposeful shot to the far pad and the rebound came right to Schmelzer who buried it to re-establish their 2-goal lead.

However, IMO, the key moments in this game came in what would be a total of 45 seconds later. The Marlies took the faceoff after the goal and went right at Daws who made 3 great saves in succession, one more amazing than the one before it all in one quick net front sequence. The Comets gained possession and came back into the Marlies' zone and Parent scored.

The difference was a 4-3 game with the Marlies smelling blood as they so often do and score goals in bunches in very short periods of time. Instead, those huge saves followed seconds later by a goal put the Comets up by 3.

They entered the 3rd up by those 3 goals and got a 5 on 3 PP goal that put the nail into the coffin and 3:34 later would pick up one more which put the game way out of hand and sent Petruzzelli packing.

Games 3 and 4 will be played back in Utica on Wednesday (5/3 and Friday (5/5). All I can say is they scored 12 goals in the 2 games in Toronto and only came out even at one game apiece. They have shown the Marlies are beatable. They have also shown that they have to play better defensively as a team. I'm certain the Marlies will get the same message pounded home over the next few days. I'm not sure what Dineen will concentrate on, just what he needs to. The answers will be revealed on Wednesday.

Great job boys! Now, just tighten up in your own end even more than you did today.
