With the 2 year deals and Labanc and simek off the books then they are positioning to have a lot of cap space after the 23-24 season. Depending on the development of the prospects they could be positioned to make a big splash. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they call Meier’s bluff and let him sign his QO then move him at the deadline.

I dont think thats really calling his bluff. Hes going to get paid and go anywhere he wants doing it so its a no brainer.
Tkachuk is doing the same thing right now

so far Grier has signed/traded for three people who have had major injuries last year so we got that going for us

I don’t have a subscription anymore, but if the sharks haven’t called Neiderreider they aren’t very smart. He’s an actual top six player who could be traded for a nice amount at a deadline

He will be 30 when the season starts. Going to guess he likely wants term (4-5 years) and money (probably around 5-5.5) along with a competitive team. Love him as a player, but I don't see the two sides being a match in free agency at their respective stages of career and organizational outlook. More likely he waits on Carolina to move either Necas, Bear, or Gardiner (or a combination of them) to free up money to come back there.

That said, Sharks should be all over Necas if he truly becomes available. Would pencil him into the 3C role this year and see how he does at what's rumored to be his natural position and see what happens. Could always move him into a 2nd line RW role if that doesn't pan out.

Don’t think it’s likely. Grier has already got a boatload of bottom six guys.

Doesn’t seem interested in guys like Puljijarvi or Necas.

Neither of which are bottom 6 guys. Necas would slot in at either 3C to build out the middle or 1st or 2nd line RW. Puljuarvi would be our opening night 1/2 line RW.

With all the money flying around for mediocre goalies, it's kinda nice ours came in cheap. It might also make moving one of them way more valuable to the other teams too.
Is there any team that may be willing to pay for a goalie at this stage other than Philly? If Philly trades with Anaheim or New Jersey for a goalie then maybe those teams would be interested but I think the team is looking down the barrel of carrying three goalies to start the season. Then again, it might be needed if Hill is still not healthy.

I don't see the Sharks creating any sort of package that interests the Flames but Tkachuk would be an amazing player to build around.
I see what you’re saying here.
I always think about when we acquired Jumbo. Had there been word of it, the posters on here would’ve sworn that we had to sell the farm to acquire him.
I prefer to wait and see. I’m just hoping it could get done. As you say, you build your team around him.

I would absolutely give up Eklund. He’s never going to have the impact that MT does. Imagine MT and Timo on a line. Just imagine.
Giving up Eklund isn't really the problem there. Tkachuk is likely getting at least 9 mil per. The team can probably manage to make Tkachuk fit under the cap at 9 mil but then how do we make Meier fit next season when we may need 10 mil just to keep him for one more season.

I just think if you're rebuilding, you can't give up guys that are key to that rebuild, i.e. Eklund.

I'd also be very uncomfortable giving away a 1st rounder in 2023 considering we have a real shot at Bedard.

The point is moot though, I just don't think we have what it takes. You can really tell how bad this team is when you try to put together a trade for a star and there's basically no one who is worth trading.
