Gosh no. I just made a Tierlist for how we rate our defensemen overall. Yes, Doughty could be dropped a tier but I feel we could call him our best defensemen overall and thus S tier.

I'll break it down though.

S- Doughty. Our top guy. Minute muncher. Plays in all positions.

A - Roy and Mikey Anderson. No real flaws with these two.

B - Spence and Gavrikov. Majority of posters pissed that Todd plays favorites over the players who gives the best chance to win.

C - Bjornfot. Plays solid. Has flaws - which many will joke is a coach who plays favorites with players who will not be with the team the following year. We had this exact issue in the playoff against Edmonton last year.

D - Sean Walker. He is a serviceable bottom pairing defenseman who should have been moved last offseason. Now, we hope him to be moved this offseason.

E - Nobody.

F - Sean Durzi and Alex Edler. You will witness a collection of excitement on this board when Edler is let go. Most posters hope for any decent trade value from Durzi to collect draft capital from the trades to acquire Fiala, Gavrikov, and Korpisalo.

Ando is right on DD's heels, above Roy because of his stout defense and he is starting to show an offensive side.
Gavri is much better than J. $pentz, who is turning into money.
Edler is a solid player that met age and injuries. Good character guy to mentor youth. I thank and do not disrespect him. Retiring not let go.
Outside of the your buddy buddy club you have little feel for this board.

Damn MacEwen really got lit up like a Christmas tree in that fight last game loool
Getting your jaw broke will do that to you. Now that raises the question, why acquire a guy that was just got tamed by a broken jaw when you need a pugilist?

All he did was not risk getting a solid shot in his recently recovering jaw.
He wasn't even risking throwing blows and opening himself.
He may have been coached to do it or he was just smart.
We need whatever semblance of a deterrent we have if needed in the last games and the playoffs.
He is all we got.

I don’t know how good he did protecting his jaw since he was just eating bombs lol.

You had to get rid of Lemmy, they way the refs were giving him penalties for every fart.
Too much of a liability for the playoffs , especially looking at PP teams like Edmoantown, you gotta get through.

He was semi deflecting them, limiting the wind up and making sure the knock out, jaw breaker did not land directly.

I feel that Blake maybe failed on the due diligence with the McEwen trade, lots going on, the other big deal to tend to, maybe actually checking to see the guy's jaw wasnt already mangled slipped through the cracks, which appear numerous in Blake's orbit.
Pepe had to go, the dumb penalties killed us. But this is not the guy we needed in return.

If you need to take someone back to make the money work thats absolutely worthless, you were better off keeping pepe scratched... right?

No we at least needed someone to potentially be a deterrent or see if he can be a deterrent or maybe when he heals up be a deterrent.
Not a great performance so far, somewhat understandably.
He did square off last game and was smart to protect his recently healing jaw.
Philly doesn't do the deal otherwise, IMO.
Pointless to have him taking a roster spot and not fair to Pepe to not give him another opportunity elsewhere.

Im saying this: this player doesnt address the deterrent aspect at all and he has no other capabilities... giving up a 5th isnt that big of a loss... its not getting what they needed which is some snarl.

He had a limited amount of time to do something and who wants a guaranteed PK?
Yes he is kinda a poser for now.
We will see if his jaw heals and he is able to do anything helpful.
I understand and respectfully disagree on this one Mojo, because I understand the limited options, time frame and what Blake was trying to do.
Hopefully he is let go and a better cheap option is acquired in the off season.
Blake was making all in moves to make a run.
Then the key player injuries derailed things.
Running out of track but let's see.

Giving up Lemieux was fine, even waiving him would have been fine. But why did we include a draft pick in the deal.

To many draft picks given up at the deadline.

OK - so im not sure what you disagree with, since you just wrote 'hopefully he is let go.' I didnt say Blake had a lot of options, i said the guy he got was a swing and a miss. And it seems you agree the guy does not fill the need being sought. Its cool, Im not into parsing sentences.. but when i read something that just doesnt ring right to me.. i gotta break it down. I see a set on the horizon - going to scratch for it - dont caught inside or ditch your board in front of me.

Otherwise Philly wouldn't take him as an automatic penalty taker the officials hate.
Blake went for it when the Kings became a dark horse.
Then injuries happend to key players Fia, Vil, Ando and Eds.
I think he did the right thing. Line one and two has come down a bit too.
Probably tired on no potent line 3 with injuries to spread things and defenses out.

Always a pleasure Mojo!
You are one of the most consistent posters here.
No need to apologize, have at my comments and correct me, no problemo!
We agree Lemieux had to go before the deadline. He is liability.
It costs to dump a liability and limits acquisition potential

He did not have to do a thing.. if the right guy isnt there you can waive stinky le pew (whether he's taken or clears you get a roster spot) let him pound on some AHLers that mess w our kids. So what Blake did was roll the dice on this guy and lost. It a was miss that cost a 5th. But my bigger concern is you give a guy that Koala is going to use to the detriment of the team (separate subject)

If our third pair all season had been Bjornfot - Roy, I think we’d be in a great spot.

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Spence/Clarke
Bjornfot - Roy

That would be a nice group of 7 for next years team. Unless they want to move out Bjornfot and bring in a beefy left dman with some size.

I think you still want a guy to be a potential deterrent.
I am sure that is what Blake thought.
Look at how the Kings are getting pushed around, starting with the Oil in the playoffs.
They may face them again, look at what they did to Mikey.
The Kings took a reciept and tried to go for a win, not a response and face the monster PP, in a close game
You may be right , especially with the jaw thing.
We dont know what was out there and how much it cost.
I respect your position and points made.

🤔🙌
Minus Clarke .
And Ando got injured , greatly impacting our spot.

Carson Soucy UFA 6'5" from Sutter's hometown - cost prob ~ 3.5m x 3,4? he would be an ideal 3rd pairing based on the Kings up and coming RD.
Could call because Gavri will be more.
A lot hinges on if you are trying to resign Korpi.
I think it would take a major trade miracle to sign both
