Since they acquired McEwen, there's been injuries to Fiala, Vilardi, Anderson, and Durzi. All of them were injured with McEwen in the line up.
And McEwen has 1 minor penalty since he was acquired.
He's not a deterrent, he doesn't intimidate anybody, he doesn't protect anybody, he doesn't score, so why is he is he playing?
Agree about Lemieux. I would rather have him in there losing his mind after a hit like that. Or even JAD who can at least create something.

I can't believe we shit on McEwen and even want Lemieux back.

The game i watched ended with the Kings scoring 0 goals which is the problem.
I was explained that our $10 mill center plays the season of his life and that we have a NHL star of the week in Arvidson.
May i ask what those guys are doing?
When the playoff home advantage is at risk, those guys have to shift into another gear and force goals onto the opponent.
Sadly, crunch time is when the Kings always disappear, especially the guys who are payed top money to play top notch.

This inability to score when it matters , will break our neck against like last playoff.
It's also not helping that our vets are free from any responsibility.

Meh. I didn't like the loss, especially with all the extracurricular stuff the Oilers do, but their whole reason for being is to dive and/or try to get retaliatory penalties - so they can go on their 35% (!!) success-rate power play. I don't think last night shows that Edmonton has our number or anything - especially if we get our guys back.

Sure, that game and it's outcome was annoying as f***, but I'm not going to get carried away.

In a vacuum I could see it go either way. But he saw numbers for 20 feet and still finished high and hard, and he knew who he was looking at.

In a world in which we just had a bunch of majors reviewed and reversed, that they didn't even give this a 15 second look is gross.

Then you add the context and history and it's just malpractice.

You think if Mikey Anderson knocked McDavid out of the game in any way he's not getting an auto-major?

That was nutless TJ Luxmore rendered unable to do his job because of the game situation and player involved.

I thought about this right after he said it was only 2. Mikey would've gotten a 5 and a game for sure. He'd have also been given a call by player safety. It was an absolutely unjust and terrible game management by him not to call it 5. He could've looked at the play, and in doing so seen McDavid push through at the end, then made the call. But nope.

I don't really care about the loss. They probably played well enough to win this type of a game about half the time.

But they needlessly keep handicapping themselves with these lineup decisions, and that's going to eventually come back and bite you in the ass.
And for what, toughness? Sure, okay that's fine if he can provide that but McEwen doesn't or at least hasn't.
If anything, more guys are getting hurt with him in the lineup.
When guys like Anderson, Fiala, Durzi, Vilardi are getting borderline cheapshotted, where has he been?
Just really upsetting when guys are getting hurt and not even the supposed tough guy doesn't do shit.

McEwen has shown nothing on the ice to deserve a spot in the lineup over the young guys who we all want getting more experienced in these types of meaningful games.

I'm not saying headhunt him. Just get in his face. After the whistle rough him up a bit. Try something. He's too comfortable.

Exactly. No one should be head hunting. But whack him in the hands sometimes. Give him a face wash. Chirp him up and down the ice. Find every opportunity to lean on him. Mcdavid would have a statline of 2–2-4 in a 5 game series loss against a team like the 2012 Kings or 2007 Ducks.

Just do *something*. Otherwise it’s going to be another first round exit, which is flat out unacceptable after how many assets Blake has spent since last summer.

Not to pile on Durzi, but I feel the Durzi of last year would have been all over McDavid after he ran Anderson.

He's just not showing the gusto he used to when he first broke in the NHL.
It’s been missing all year, and it’s the most important part of his gane.

Not a great indicator, tbh.

wonder what Tom Wilson would cost with some retention?
It would be ludicrous.

In the good old days of hockey, if the opposing team took runs at your players they would repay it in kind by taking runs at there players. Don't have to be dirty. Just line them up good and hit them with a really good hard check, That would stop it.

Would have been nice to see Kopitar or Danault take a 2 min boarding penalty to send an Oiler to the observation room.

This for sure.

I have wondered all year where the Durzi people fell in love with went? He only got a spot on the roster for showing heart and emotion. Now there’s none.

So after attending two hockey games in Canada I can say that I was unimpressed with the fan experience. The arena last night was incredibly mellow for a meaningful game. I went to see Edmonton at Crypto back when the Kings dusted them 5-2 in either December or January. The place was going crazy the entire game. A far more energetic environment than either Saddledome or Rogers. I was sitting in the third row and corner where the Kings shoot twice last night. Second game with incredible tickets and they've scored one goal in both games combined. So frustrating! But back when I booked this trip in October I was just hoping that the Kings would be relevant still at that point in the season so I guess I'll take it. They better win the next two! My seats i Seattle are in the upper deck and were the most expensive tickets out of all 4 games. I bought the tickets for Calgary/Edmonton in October and Seattle/Vancouver last month.

This for sure.

He's probably been reading this board and thinks f*** yall, why bother.

Seriously though he hasnt had much luck with the gloves off. He seems to come off second best more often than not(probably because he's usually going with someone bigger than himself) Perhaps that has smacked some of the enthusiasm out of him.

If you think it’s easy to line up Connor Mcdavid for a good hard check, you haven’t been watching hockey for long. He’s faster and stronger than 99% of the players on the ice at any given time.

This is what I was thinking also but to their point Kane and some of the other guys could catch one every once in a while.

Ya, I hope the boys realize they'll have to step up the physicality against that team if they want to skate in a series with then.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect this current iteration of the Kings to suddenly grow claws. Blake has made a conscious effort to eschew size and toughness. You just can’t paint stripes on a kitten and expect it to be a tiger.

BUT what this bunch of sissies can do is at least emotionally invest. Trying the poker face approach to important hockey is not working. This team is at its absolute worst when they’re just lifelessly sitting in their 1-3-1.

I mostly agree but I think they are capable of stepping up the muckery a degree or two if they can get that emotional investment.

I think so, too. Or at least, I hope so. Otherwise their season is over in about a month from now, and Blake is on the hot seat for trading two 1sts for another 1st round exit.

The Kings have to be aware of EDM skill at all times. It’s always gonna be a prevent game.

McDavid hides behind his stardom. You retaliate on him you get jumped by the whole team.

Oilers aren’t necessarily tough but they are big. Kane, who shouldn’t be in the league, can scrap. Nurse can be physical. Draisaitl is a large man. So are Ekholm and Daharnais.

LA needs a Jeanot or Wilson type to install some fear of God in them. Kings just don’t have that. MacEwen got rag dolled after poking the goalie and had no response himself.

The only thing I learned from this piece: Byfield can roar. I like that. I want to see him have that on the ice (it's starting to show some) when he's near the net and SHOOTS, instead of passes. That he sees NET and not the goalie. That he's hungry and hellbent at putting pucks in nets. (keep up the great passing game, but don't pass up a good shot) I want to see him be the one who drives through and crushes an opponent like he did Hedman. Every game. 1 or 3 times, please. Hey, how about these 2 back to back games this weekend...but save his best crush for McDavid, Tuesday. Or Nurse. Or any oiler. I was pissed when Nurse came from behind and headlocked Byfield and threw him down. No penalty? Refs have to start penalizing those things. It's BS.
