GDT: 2022-23 season game 74 LA Kings vs Calgary Flames @6:00pm 3/28/23

What's frustrating, this is still just a 2-1 game! Just go back to the basics. Shots on goal and go for rebounds and get traffic in front! Harder for a goalie to stop shots cleanly if they can't see the whole ice in front of them.

Kaliyev with less than 6 minutes of ice through 2. Probably done for the night too.
surely double shifting kopitar and danault 17 more times when they're obviously being neutralized will work!

The Kings are on their heels.. I like that Koala is moving Fiala around trying to find something. Koala thinks his math problem is who do i pick of Edler/Durzi/Walker when he has Spence and Bjornfot who I guarantee would be a sounder pairing. Last years pre injury Edler was fantastic.. but he's nowhere near that.

He has been boiled dog shit since returning from injury.
He and Durzi are chaos machines. The game always turns chaotic with them - even when the offensive chaos works in your favor (as it usually does with Fiala) it keeps a chaotic tone to the game that makes leads harder to keep. When it works against you (as it usually does with Durzi), the tone actually works in your favor as it makes it more likely to score and catch up.

Me, I prefer teams that can exhibit control of a game and avoid all the back and forth nonsense. I know it's not as popular with fans, but I respect those who bust their asses and show perseverance to succeed over a skill show.

Byfield not doing jack, 2nd game in a row.
Reminds me of the playoffs last year.
If he keeps it up , I put someone else on that line
Moore, Grundstrom, Kaliyev, Arv
even Fiala, lol anyone.
Byfield to 4th line for a wakeup shakeup.

Korpi is keeping the Kings in this game. Too bad the players in front him are playing like crap.

Do you remember the LMU basketball of the 90s with Paul Westhead.. push push push outscore. Fiala is that kind of a guy. That great player to have - just needs to be a little more under control at times. Durzi.. there is no hope there for being a responsible defender... They dont belong in the same analysis but I agree with your overall point re they create this chaotic energy.

I’m trying to logically think of any argument to sit Kaliyev and I can’t come up with a single reason.

Can any of you?

one trick pony

only scores on the PP

doesn't do anything to help the team

Byfield looks better than Kopitar tonight.
Kopitar has been worse the last couple games and is looking slow tonight especially.
If they clinch early he should get a rest.

Fiala's breakaway shot was placed extremely well for a scenario where the goalie went down in butterfly. Would have gone right through him. But Markstrom was ballsy and stayed upright

Lol kaliyev makes two elite passes in his ludicrously restricted ice time

Strongly disagree on that assessment. As a shooter, if you start to slow down and go straight at the goalie, you are making it easier for him to stop you. Fiala had no dekes, nothing to make Markstrom move or open up.
