Respect. This team is good defensively. The’re trying for the 2nd wildcard in the east. This aint no wwalkover. And uncle lou’s teams get calls.

If Durzi is out long term and another defenseman gets hurt down the stretch or in the playoffs, then what? Are we sure we don’t want to get Spence some more reps while the pressure is still relatively low?
The easy thing to do is rotate Elder, Walker, and Spence as the bottom pair. Everyone gets to play 2/3 of the games to find the right mix for the playoffs while everyone gets reps and rest.

Of course not.
Just like last year, the blueprint:

can't play the kids, its early in the season and they're not ready, have to set the tone

can't play the kids, we're getting buried right now, need the vets to steady the ship before we let them loose

cant play the kids, too many injuries, they'll be exposed higher in the lineup

can't play the kids, these games are meaningful now, we need every point

can't play the kids, literally every point counts, these are essentially playoff games

can't play the kids, it's the playoffs and they've barely got any games, so how can we trust them? They're not ready.

Cmon, the Kings aren't afraid to play young guys, we know this. Bjornfot, Anderson, Kaliyev - they all played full seasons when they were young. I understand the point you are making but it really doesn't hold water just because Spence or Kaliyev aren't in there. Arty was playing like shit. I get Spence, and I fully agree - but that's just one player. Byfield is young, they've stuck it out with him. They stuck Vilardi in there when he was young, until he sucked his way out of the lineup. TM played Clarke until he couldn't anymore, had total faith in him.

I think he gives his veterans too much rope just like anyone else, but I don't think it has anything to do with age as much as it is giving the team what he believes is the best opportunity to win every night. I don't always agree with him there, but I can at least see his reasoning and it's not completely random. TM certainly isn't an "earn your lumps" type guy like the previous regime. In SJ he often put young players right up on top lines with veterans if he thought it was the best thing to do.

I thought you were being facetious given your first sentence gives two of the examples that are problematic, Bjornfot and kaliyev.

Let's be real, the only reason kids took spots even at this juncture was because of injuries and they ran out of options. Same as with the D last year. Vilardi was our literal leading scorer and it took two top six injuries to even get him on the power play, never mind in the top six. Byfield only moved up because Fiala was being a complete f***around on defense, and the aforementioned injuries.

Much like last year, I don't give credit for genius what is much more easily attributed to 'oh f*** NOW what do we do, I'm out of vets!'

And I don't believe that YOU even believe this statement you wrote: "but I don't think it has anything to do with age as much as it is giving the team what he believes is the best opportunity to win every night." One word: Spence.

It's probably more for the roster thread but I could do this all night. We'll do it over there later :)
