This start is why I was saying it was too early to write off Vilardi.
Well there are a number of us who have been Stan'ing him this entire time. His skills have always been there. The confidence was missing and the skating was below average. Now that he's a competent skater his confidence has skyrocketed. The skating element has been the missing link in amplifying his plus NHL skills.

This is the same reason I haven't given up on Turcotte either. It's obvious that the speed and the skill and the will is there. He can't gain height, but he can gain strength. If he can heal and avoid serious injury, I'm confident he turns into a real player.

Figure out the pp and theyll be sitting pretty. I like how intense the bench was in the shootout and the celebration. That energy to play for each other can steal some points like they did tonight.
I see some Byfield criticism and have to say I thought he was good. Just quietly grinding all night drawing penalties and getting zone time. I think the coach liked it also. He was played late in the game (and they scored) and also got a shift in OT which he never does.

Byfield had a low key solid game. Won 5/8 draws, nice play and secondary assist on the 3rd goal and pretty sure he was on the ice for the first. Was responsible in all 9 of his minutes. Would love to see him get some PP time over Danault or Kopitar.

Dare I say….development?

Absolutely amazing. Most here also thought Kempe would never become a legit top 6 forward. It took him 4+ years to break through. Gabe 2+ years. This is why I am not too worried about Quinton yet. 1+ year and 20 years 2 moinths old. He's showing signs that he's getting there, slowly. Still gets knocked down too easily.
Keep him and Gabe together. Would like to see QB get some PP time.

But Vilardi has become a phenom and I don't see that there will be any regression from what he's doing.
He's improved his footspeed and more power behind his skating...and even making better cuts. His vision and hands are pretty impressive. His shot is deceptive as well....and accurate.

Even Durzi's speed has improved...was impressed by that rush and almost game winner.

I agree. With Vilardi, he thought the game so quickly. His skating has always been his biggest drawback, but his ability to think can overcome a skating weakness.

Now, his skating has improved, but he also knows well enough of when to push and exert.

I also agree with Turcotte. Hampered by injury. But I see him as a higher-skilled Lizotte (I mean that in a good way). There's no quit in his game.

I would like to see more time and opportunity for the youth still, but for the first time in a long time, it's starting to look like the Kings have developed a top-flight forward.

I always believed in Vilardi, I just never thought he'd get the chance in LA!

I love the depth. Kings are absolutely a 3 headed monster right now. While Arvidson getting shit on right now is completely warranted if he can round into form we match up well with damn near any team.

I would love to see where we stand against Colorado as a litmus test. Key is just managing minutes. If Kopitar plays 18 min Danault plays 17 and Byfield 16 and Lizotte 9 min this team can play balls out for 60 min.

Get Drew to 24 min max, 18 min for the other 2 pairs and we are productive and fresh the entire game. By using Durzi and Clarke on PP1 and giving Drew pride minutes on our 2nd unit you have him out there in a position to do what Drew does best. Same with Kopitar.
