Had to DVR the game, but overall a really solid win all around. PK is still ass, I think Faust mentioned sometime during the broadcast that its like 64% or something shitty like that over the past couple of games. Amazing how the PP and the PK is going complete opposite directions. Good start to the road trip, but tougher games lie ahead.

I really can't believe how bad the PK is.

It's like it was bad already, but it's like the players themselves also don't believe in the system either. They LOOK like they expect to get scored on every single time and it blows my mind how every time a puck goes in there are 4 kings in the slot making an umbrella yet they can't stop the easy point shot NOR do they cover any of the 3 loose guys in front.

Might be the worst PK i've ever seen in this franchise and that's saying something, I truly do not know what it's supposed to accomplish.

It's unreal.

4 guys in the slot, none prevent/pressure the easy pass to Chabot, none even challenge him, none block the shot, goes right thru the 4 dudes you see here. And if Copley DID make the save, 2 untouched Sens ready to bang it home. What's the purpose? I don't think I need to show the frame when the puck goes into the net, you'll just know that Tkachuk has position on Durzi pretty much unimpeded and Batherson is halfassedly challenged by Roy but still free.

Same as on the first goal. Four guys in the slot, none prevent the shot OR the easy lateral pass

Chabot goes to Stutzle for an unchallenged one timer on this one, but when he does...literally every Senator on the ice is free with at least a stick length of space.

Each King is doing literally nothing. No challenges, Anderson can't get out at all for a shot block, no one is taking position on anyone. What the f*** are we doing here? It's not like Chabot made an incredible pass with pressure; he just stood there and had 2 easy options and simply making one opened up every Senator on the ice.

It's one thing if the PK just isn't clicking but there doens't appear to be a coherent goal and we're giving away freebies nightly. You can't always overcome 2 special teams goals against, the only thing keeping us afloat vs. literal bottom feeding teams is a hot PP.

Pretty good breakdown...if the Kings are playing any team in the top half of league scoring there are a couple more goals against. Playing the Easts version of the Coyotes masks some weaknesses.

Missed the game but just glad we played well and didn't lose to a crappy team. Hoping they can win a few on this road trip. The real test will be on Thursday. How'd AK34 look on the first line? Did Todd yank him after the first shift? LOL.

The Pk is basically a weird 1-1-2, where high F just skates across the whole rink while low F just stands there.

It doesn’t work and pretty amazed they haven’t just switched to an aggressive box and collapsing down low.

Since November 1, the penalty killing unit is operating at 63.6%. The only team with a worse PK unit since then is St. Louis at 57.9%.

I just don't get how they continue to employ a passive box that caves in and leaves so many passing options available. They apply absolutely zero pressure on the puck carrier.

Terry Murray’s ancient protect home plate strategy would be infinitely better than whatever BS they’re trying to execute now.

Coaching is an immense lead anchor on this team.

The only players who apply pressure are usually the defensemen and that usually leaves a 2 on 1 behind them.

I think you’ve covered that pretty well, as you say there is zero puck pressure nor is there positional coverage. It’s like a pp training session for under 12’s.

I agree with everything here. It isn't even beer league level of penalty killing. Every coach, except the Kings, says the pk needs to be more aggressive when struggling. Are they sandbagging??? Are they trying to punish the goalies???

Your even strength time on ice distribution for last night:

Kopitar line 14-17 minutes, 3 points, +5
Danault line 13-14 minutes, 1 point, +1
Kempe line 12 minutes, 1 point, +1
Lizotte line 10 minutes, 0 points, +2

Anderson-Doughty 21 minutes, 2 points, +3
Durzi-Roy 17-18 minutes, 2 points, +3
Edler-Walker 13-14 minutes, 0 points, +0

Sorry, I am calling semi-bullshit, because your still pictures don't take into account, how dead f***ing tired they were because it was almost a min and a half shift....of extremely hard work....the only difference between this...and the Kings shift vs OTT when they were dead ass tired...is that OTT scored.....it had nothing to do with the set up, or challenges etc.....

Still pictures to prove a point is beyond incomprehensible, unless you want to show there is too many men, or someone is picking their nose in a corner, those shots do none of that....

Only penalties we kill are the ones where the opponent takes a penalty during their PP time.

The PK may have been this incompetent last year, I can’t recall, but it was masked by the players’ aggression on it. Kings were always a threat to go the other way for a SHG, Kempe and Moore in particular. That element is completely missing this year.

Also, good game from Copley, good to see some quiet, steady net minding for a change.
