Imagine constructing a roster so f***ing bad you rely on your 35 year old goaltender to squeak out points.

I can’t get over how poorly this roster has been built. It’s like Blake saw exactly what made the Lombardi teams successful and said, “nah, f*** that, I’m gonna do the exact opposite. Centers? Well balanced defense? How about wingers and a literal half dozen clones of the same mid size RHD?”

And that’s not even mentioning handing the keys to the car to the biggest loser in professional hockey in Todd McLellan.
That’s pretty much it. No identity, hire the guy who your team reverse swept, deploy vets on the brink of retirement, and destroy the youth you were tanking for. And let’s not even get in on drafting Byfield.

nobody wants to shoot from the slot!
Could it be that there isn't anything to shoot at when bearing down on the netminder? Its not like in old days when shooters had gaping 1,2,3,4,5 holes to choose from. Now they need to pass off to the wings to get the goalie unawares for a 1-timer

Goal 1 - Tkchuck just manhandled Lizzotte, clears him out with 2 crosschecks and get the goal by out working him. 5-10" looked really small there.
Lizotte isn't 5-10. With his hunched over style he's more like 5-4,5-5. He's a good 4th liner. But on the Kings this year he hasn't done a whole lot

Not ready to give up on Byfield entirely. He’s on a tear in the AHL right now. He may save us yet.
Byfield just needs to play and play a lot. Love to see LA leave him in Ontario for the majority of the year so he can play a ton, then make his move to the NHL Kings after the TDL when Blake does something significant to move players out that aren't in the long term plans of the squad

Kopitar probably needs to be moved to the 2nd line as he's not able to produce as a top line center anymore.
Hopefully Kopi turns it around but sadly he's probably better suited for 3rd line duties now. Maybe when Iafallo gets back they can reunite and put Vilardi with them. They could be a very good 3rd line

Anyone have a link to a deep stat box score for last nights game? Im curious to see how many shifts and TOI Kaliyev got in the 3rd. Would most coaches have tried to get a hot player more ice time? yet dont recall seeing that.

on another note- TMac just useless with 3 on 3 OT strategy.

Koala bear has something against Kaliyev. Pretty mind boggling honestly.

I know it was due to an icing but....home advantage for line changes and goal #1 come with OTT coach getting his first against out 4th.

So you know it was nothing that anyone on the Kings could control (but the players for icing it) but let's be pissed at the coach anyway for having the 4th line out?

That isn't what happened. Lizotte did an admirable job of boxing Tkachuk out so he couldn't screen or tip the point shot, nothing he can do about a wide shot bouncing off the boards right to his stick.

Nobody has ever wanted to hold Quick accountable for goals like that, but there are drawbacks to every style. Aggressively dropping down to cover as much of the lower and middle of the net often leaves him exposed to those types of goals. He is playing the percentages there, and sometimes you get beat on bounces that won't be as dangerous to more passive goalies that stay up.

Not every goal has a villain. You can play things to the best of your abilities and still get beat by bounces.

Not sure if you are saying Quick should be accountable or not for that goal, but he's reacting to the point shot, which is what he should be doing, took a bad bounce off a leg, then direct off the boards, I don't think Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek combined stops that.

They were as tired as I was. I fell asleep and missed the ot. They were ready to go home.
People forget that Mama Kopitar buys Anze something like five turkeys at Thanksgiving and the turkey lasts all the way through the New Year. Maybe Kopitar is sharing the leftovers.
