Anyone else feel Doughty's injury last year actually helped more than it hurt?

From the team standpoint, kind of, because it forced Todd to let everyone else play instead of force feeding Doughty 30, and the other dmen couldn't rely on Doughty to 'save' them

From an individual standpoint, youd have to be smoking crack, because he was playing Norris caliber hockey before the injury, and it was pretty clear what was missing in the playoffs when McDavid was running over Roy instead of getting at least speedbumped by Drew

This season is a mixed bag, tonight was hammered dog shit though

But did Todd learn anything from it? hahahahahahahahahaha

Company line comments. Never criticize DD or AK. That will get you fired. Nobody will ever call those guys out.
True.. Fox did call out Kopi for a lazy pass a few games ago which surprised me. Kopi and Doughty have played their way to lesser roles... They are straight up bad.

No Olympic team to make this year.

it was. a backhand pass from the goaline right on his stick at the other blue , in stride btw. most guys on their forhands can't be that accurate. I hate it, but it really was good.
Yes it was a nice pass but did you see how much space there was between Doughty and Giroux? Thats the first thing any unbiased analyst would notice.. any decent pass wouldve sprung him - even off the boards

Yea they were better without him. You arent allowed to talk about it here though. But he would have helped a lot in that Edmonton series to slow things down at some points.
With that said he was horrible tonight and Kopitar was worse. I think in OT Doughty thought Kopitar would have at least made an effort to get that loose puck to gain possession.

That's it for me, I'm done for now.

Will absolutely not be watching these f***ing clowns get wrecked by Seattle and Carolina

Two of the worst teams in the league and the only thing saving those points at all was Jonathan Quick

Year 5 of a 'rebuild' and they're only a playoff team by the grace of the pacific being godawful, just taking a run down the standings. Falling out completely would be the best thing at this point, I hate that Quick got them points the last two nights, they didnt' deserve a damn thing.

If DD and AK are this ineffective now, I can’t imagine how they will look during the stretch run. DD in particular because he has to log more minutes than anyone in the league.

he made 3 good moves, just got it inside and off the post and in. Quick made him work for it.
Disagree. A lot of NHL players are skilled, but Quick needs play the percentages on that breakaway. Quick gave too much room for Giroux to score on his forehand. Force wide to the forehand or backhand, which I have seen Quick do to shooters many times. He appeared to be a bit deep in his crease. Quick could have been a bit more aggressive coming outside the crease and backing in. On those shooters who do that zig-zag puck handling, you keep your stick in front to take away 5-hole, be patient and react accordingly. Giroux goated Quick to do too much movement before the shot was taken. I just wonder if Quick was a bit fatigued at his older age and facing 39 shots tonight?

It’s on the coach and GM to put out the best possible roster and manage ice time and deployment.

Doughty and Kopitar can’t help that they’re older and not as good anymore. The problem is Blake and TMac. End of story.
You can't offload that $21 million in salary and they are still fan favorites. Up to Blake to find players to work well with those 2 guys.

I think when the eventual dumbass Clarke decision comes down soon I'll be taking a break for a while. I'll go join Blake in hibernation, as staying-up late to watch this garbage from the east coast just isn't fun or rewarding right now

It's not even fun on the west coast

The only thing that keeps it interesting is that perpetual f***ing loser TM finds new and interesting ways to step on rakes

I thought there was an outside chance this could be 2012 again...but looks like it's just 2016.

Total failure by that "top line".

Kopitar beat to the puck.

Kempe hanging back to let Kopitar do the work, like usual.

Doughty completely unaware of the biggest threat on the ice.

I was going to post before OT started that, despite this being a great game for Kaliyev and him earning a shot in OT, he'd never get the chance. Too bad I was right for the wrong reason.

It’s just pathetic that it’s more important to keep coddling guys than putting out players who give you the best chance to win.

There won’t be any sort of discussion about it either by anyone in the organization because it’s sacrilege to criticize DD or AK. Nobody will risk that type of honest commentary.
I think saying "he saw something that wasn't there" was being critical of Doughty. Doughty made the wrong move based on poor vision on his part. Stoll wasn't stroking him at all. Stutzle being aware enough to get the puck to Giroux when Doughty made his error was a good pass and a game winning one.

The main reason the Kings lost this game is because they couldn't score goals against the lowly Ottawa Senators.

Kopitar is a #1 center who can't generate scoring chances. Doughty is a #1 defensemen who can't produce offense.

If you really think about it, the Kings don't have much in terms of offense weaponry. You can't expect Moore and Danualt to carry the offense.

It’s still up to the coach to not give 8 and 11 a combined 45 f***ing minutes a night.

Being stuck with depreciating, high AAV players is one thing. Choosing to continue giving these players maximum TOI and deployment is sheer stupidity.

Kopitar probably needs to be moved to the 2nd line as he's not able to produce as a top line center anymore.

Imagine constructing a roster so f***ing bad you rely on your 35 year old goaltender to squeak out points.

I can’t get over how poorly this roster has been built. It’s like Blake saw exactly what made the Lombardi teams successful and said, “nah, f*** that, I’m gonna do the exact opposite. Centers? Well balanced defense? How about wingers and a literal half dozen clones of the same mid size RHD?”

And that’s not even mentioning handing the keys to the car to the biggest loser in professional hockey in Todd McLellan.
