The big concern is that this team doesn’t seem any better now than they were at the end of last year.

Some individual players have taken steps forward, but the team as a whole is still playing the same old handful of games above .500 hockey that squeaked them into the playoffs last year.

The special teams are still garbage. Goaltending has gotten worse. At least they’re scoring. Until they aren’t n

Who is this team? Does Blake even know? Doesn’t seem like it, considering he can’t move on from any of his roster players.

If Brown doesn’t retire, is he still on the team this year? Probably.

What’s the point of this comment? Vilardi is by far the best player on the line. I don’t care how many points he has if he looks great on a line with one over the hill player and another who has the generational talent of taking games off.

Maybe I'm out to lunch but while frustrating to watch I thought they carried the play and lost the game rather than being beat. They hit two posts and had a few quick whistles where one would've definitely been a goal. They definitely need the points so that's definitely a disappointing result.

Totally agreed...Kings carried the play and got 37 shot on net compared to VANs 25. They hit two posts, didnt get much help from the refs, and Demko stood on his head while Quick didnt have his A game.

That said Tmac still refuses to make in game changes though he did wait until the last waning moments of the game to put Fiala with Kaliyev. Too little too late. Never noticed the Durzi/Kaliyev thing but indeed that was a great observation. PP1 should not be starting PPs but Todd content to not only continue with what doesnt work but let them burn 90 seconds of the PP, Walker is about as average as the day is long and truly the Nick Shore of defensemen.

There is no reason Blake should not be dangling Durzi/Arvi/Walker and picks for whomever. Team as a whole was far better with Bjornfot and Spence on the Roster. Edler Walker both -2 which really means -3 since Walker assisted on the lone Kings goal.

Someone else said it best- with this D core and TMac Kings are a .500 team. Nothing will change with this as the formula. Good news is D help is available with Spence/Bjornfot in the wings and we have the personnel to make a win/win trade with other teams in the league. As for Tmac...has one more year of his deal after this. Not sure if Kings brass considered making a move but assuming it has to have been discussed. They should fire Tmac and Hire Jeff Saturday.

I am more worried about Quick getting too many starts than him missing time.

Lots of good will for him, but he just flat out loses more games than Petersen. The numbers don't lie, the Kings win a bigger percentage of their games with Cal in net.

RE Kaliyev- 13pts in 19games....while getting 4th line minutes and not much PP time.

Question- is Kaliyevs skating and D play so limited he doesnt deserve more time? Or a case of TMAC preferring vets come hell or high water and results be damned? Kaliyev has the same amount of points as Arviddson playing 5 minutes less with Lizotte and Lemiuex as primary linemates.

"Demko steals" is a cop out & doesn't give the King's complete lack of offense enough credit. This is a defense with burned out OEL, Bear & Schenn as 3 of the 4 top D & the King's didn't generate $#!¶. Most of those shots were into a set goalie with their D boxing out.

OEL is an upgrade on the King's defense. Mikey, Durzi, Edler on the left.

No, just bad coaching, not being able to analyze your team, adjust, or make hard decisions.

I watch a lot of their games. Those lines are very unbalanced. One line is super offensive, but gets locked up in their own zone on unofficial power plays for the other team, another line is simply overrated and does nothing but is played a lot.

Then few players without vision or defensive DNA in them. Last night Arthur alone was open enough of times to equalize the game, but no one saw it. You got to fully use your players according to their skill set. Also, I think overall player structure and mentality lacks defense, or some kind of shut down mentality.

The shot chart and scoring chances do not tell the whole story because those were driven by heavy score effects. Canucks controlled the first 25-30 minutes of the game in shots and scoring chances. Only after the Kings got down did they start to pile up shots and scoring chances.

It's just so wrong to have your most gifted offensive player on line 3, period. I like Kupari and Grundstrom a lot, honestly, but Fiala needs to play on the top line. It's time to try other combinations.
Kempe really needs to get going. The team really misses Iafallo.

While line 2 has good chemstry, it would not hurt to move one of them to another line.
Why not try something like:
Fiala Kopitar Kaliyev
Moore Danault Kempe
Grundstrom Vilardi Arvidsson
Andersson Lizotte Kupari

Gabe has been in a funk, somewhat and I am fully confident he can play center and excel there.
Kaliyev needs to move up. Probably has the most pts in the NHL, from line 4 or even bottom 6.
I say remove 1 of Kopi / Doughty from PP1. The 2 of them together, on PP1 is stale, tired and
ineffective, for a half decade now. Give it a fresh look. Give Lias a few games.

Edler at this time, is just too slow and the Kings need the ten-years-ago, 27 year old version of him.
So, that player must come from a deal. I like the idea of getting Gavrikov....the Kings have so many assets
and it's okay to deal 2 for such a good young, sizeable LHD. I am not sure if somehting like Fagemo + #2 could do it...or Grans + #2? something like that. I would not part with Kaliyev or Kupari. There are just so many assets and all of them simply cannot play here: Turcotte (want to keep him and see where he's at when fully healthy) Byfield, Fagemo, Thomas, Madden, Laferriere, Pinelli, Chromiak, Helenius, Hughes, Connors, Lee, Durzi, Spence, Bjornfot, Clarke.

Edler, Walker need to be replaced. Bjornfot and Spence are better, but understand why they are in Ontario, atm. Durzi has actually not been a dumpster fire on D the last week or so. Get him back on the right, though.

This team should be better than the team that lost rd 1 to the Oil.
Adding Fiala and Gabe emerging into a monster....and Doughty back. Players like Kaliyev, Kupari, Durzi having become NHL players, should go a long way.

For the Seattle game, get Moverare and Andersson in the lineup. See what they can do. I'd remove JAD and Walker today.

If you remove players who played less than 10 games....Kaliyev is in the top 20 NHL wide for pts per 60 minutes. The fact he is doing it with schlubs as linemates and not getting too much PP time really a testament that either-

A )hes a liability defensively and cant be trusted in any other role
or
B) hes being badly misused.

Most of the other players are all getting top 6 ice time with skilled linemates.

I’ve noticed this too. Weird. Kaliyev will be open and banging his stick and he’ll elect for the shot or wait too long. They haven’t really found a way to utilize his shot.

How about platooning Vilardi and Kaliyev on the first line. Whoever scores stays otherwise back to the 4th line. Byfield would be better at Center with JAD or maybe Turcotte at Left Wing. Lizotte is not doing much and the Kings are being badly out muscled on that 4th line even with Lemieux in the line up
