Kings need to work on their 5-on-6 play. That's the second time they given up a goal to Detroit in that situation this year.

.618 P% now. Good enough for 8th in the NHL. Vegas lost in regulation tonight. 5pts out of first in the division.

Kings did a good job limiting opposition chances again, but they figure out a way to make the game closer than it should have been.

This is one of those wins you really don't feel good about. 2 bad penalties, failing to hit the net with the goalie pulled for more than 4 min. Happy with the 4 game streak though.

I think they won 1 draw in the final 4 min of the game, then kempe turned it over.

Well on a positive note Cal only let in one bad goal. He should have stopped that first goal of the game. The third goal he was completely screened by Edler.

It's no wonder the Kings are terrible at scoring empty net goals when they're basically terrible in any shorthanded situation. It's the same passive diamond nonsense whether it's five on four or six on five.

I'll take it. A win is a win but it looks like Lemieux is out for a while. Now who is the forward replacement? QB scored tonight in Ontario for what it's worth.

Gotta put in JAD and get some info on where he is at to know what they will do with him. The call up will be interesting too, but a likely scratch. Some players have broken out the last couple years gotta give more a chance when the correct slot opens up.

Is this lack of practice typical for every team? Or is it a product of the Kings' tight early-season schedule with a lot of road games?

It does seem like a lack of practice time would explain some of the uncharacteristic sloppy play.

They never make it easy...too many posts, phantom calls, inability to hit an empty net...but the results are there with plenty of room for improvement. Appreciated TM's comments after the game acknowledging as much.

We usually play BETTER on the road so here's hoping, but 4 for the home fans is great!

Yeah hoping he won't be out a long time. Say what you want about pepe but I think he's still important for this team. LA is still the softest team in the league. I little bit of toughness won't hurt at all.

Saw that too.. That could be an MCL tear based on the direction it buckled - which is less critical than an ACL or PCL (what Brown had).. 6-8 week kind of a thing. If it blew out other ligaments - its the season like Walker

I don't wanna just constantly advertise for my own content in here (yes I do)

but the conversation regarding Clarke's ice time, Cal vs Quick in net etc etc etc are frequently discussed in post game, post practice and morning skate conversations with Todd McLellan.

There aren't a ton of journalists that cover these events consistently and even those that do can't write about the full conversations and everything said in the full 10-15 minute sessions that happen basically every day...


BUT


I do make a LOT of quotes pulled from McLellan and players available on the pregame radio show which is then made available as a downloadable podcast the following day on the LA Kings Insider Audio podcast feed.

I bring it up now because I'm reading this thread as I'm editing the morning skate and yesterdays practice audio and there's like 5 minutes of conversation devoted to how a coach handles young players with expectations that suddenly find themselves as a healthy scratch.

Nobody asked "WHY AREN'T YOU PLAYING CLARK???" because the answer is likely to be "we feel this lineup gives us the best chance to win" and nobody is interested in just contradicting the choices the organization makes... that doesn't make for a pleasant working environment moving forward
HOWEVER McLellan talked at length about the sitaution JAD and Clarke find themselves in and how the coaching staff is aware of the difficulties it presents and how they approach it.


I dunno... it's information and it's interesting and there's a lot of it out there that I frequently think might help inform some of the fights I see repeated in here that are conducted without the benefit of the full wealth of knowledge that is available in the world.

Personally I think you’ve earned the right to advertise your content as much as you wish. Your content is valuable and informative, I think most of us appreciate what you do and fully understand you can’t go in certain directions with your questions. It’s not actually your fault that the independent coverage isn’t as engaged as we’d all like - I’m sure you share that view.

When I started independently covering the Kings back in 2007 I did it because I was frustrated at the lack of local coverage. My goal was always to try and create coverage that Kings fans would find useful and entertaining.

As a member of the organization I have more opportunities and more limitations than I did when I was independent but my personal goal remains the same so I am disappointed in my own efforts when I hear they are failing someone.

I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it (no offense to Doktor Jeep) but as long as criticisms are delivered somewhat constructively or I'm in a mood to ignore being compared to the propaganda efforts of a brutal dictatorship then I'm usually all ears.

I hadn’t read this before my reply but I stand by what I wrote. I’ve done something similar to you in the past, albeit in a far more amateur way (both technically and in terms of content). I fully get that there is a line you cannot cross in some areas, I struggled with that badly (too far one side or the other). FWIW, I think you navigate it very well and even acknowledge when you think you may have a bit of a bias at play. (You don’t need to as even then you handle it well).

As a member of the organisation I get more than I’d expect and as I say my disappointment comes from the independent media.
