These playoffs are kind of turning into a dud. The Florida story is somewhat interesting. Other than that lots of blowouts in the second round lately. Pretty boring. If the Oilers flame out it's just going to be smashmouth, blue collar hockey the rest of the way basically. Competitive but...not super compelling.

If you’d told a “purist” — say back in 1990 or so— that the final 4 teams could likely be: Carolina, Florida (Miami), Dallas, and Las Vegas??

They’d spit their drink.

Guess this was the vision?!?

I mean I get why coaches say stull like this (they don't want to throw their goalies under the bus), but this is just absurd:

"If you look at how we played and what we gave up, I don't think we should point the finger at the goaltender," Ruff said of Vanecek. "Even if he gave us a fabulous effort, we didn't skate well enough to really generate anything after that first period."

He gave up FIVE even strength goals on 15 shots!! It's ok to blame the goalie, Lindy!

I'm just going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was disappointed by the shot quality?

Now I'm going to go watch the highlights and see if he's a doofus or not.

I watched the highlights and thought Vanacek played poorly. His team didn't do him any favors but this was his chance to step up after being given another start.

Nothing against him but I am glad we moved on from him - and Samsonov.

For me, they are a bit of a nightmare, because all the expansion teams are dong well. I hate seeing expansion teams winning the Cup, HATE IT. Particularly Carolina. It just makes us look bad. I would rather see Montreal win 20 more Cups than seeing an expansion team winning one.

But unfortunately this year it looks like it could happen. Realistically, I think only Edmonton could save us from this scenario.

I still have faith in NJ.

But maybe they should never start Vanecek ever again:

Up is good, down is bad.

Vanecek has been very down.

Watched the whole game. Given Schmid's play, I was quite shocked VV was starting in net last night. Poor coaching decision by Ruff. Debbies played well in the 1st and then turned into a pumpkin in the 2nd. Like a totally different team who couldn't complete a pass and then once Canes went ahead, they became too risky. Canes remained structured throughout the game and didn't deviate from their plan. Keeping VV in the game past the 3rd goal also compounded the decline. IMO, VV was solely responsible for at least 2 of those GAs.

Was a bummer to see because everytime the Canes win, a new season of The Kardashians is granted.

Well, I hate Carolina too, but they weren’t an expansion team.

Seattle, Florida, Vegas for sure. Not Carolina (or Dallas, or Jersey, or Edmonton, or obv Toronto.)

Regardless, as I stated above — hockey purists can’t be happy with all the new cities being the ones to make the final 8 (and prob final 4)

Someone pointed that out to me today. I always wondered what happened to the Hartford Whalers...well there you go...but I would still find it insulting if they won another Cup this year.

Showing my age, but ... any franchise other than one of the Original Six is an expansion franchise. If not, where does one draw the line? Do you accept the Flyers, Pens, Blues, Kings, (North) Stars as non-expansion franchises? Some but not all of the later ones as well? Easier to just stick with the O6 and tag the others as expansion sites.

My family used to have season tickets to the Whalers. If they existed today I doubt I’d be a Caps fan. Who knows. All I do know is Peter Karmanos and the Canes can get f***ed.
