I still believe in NJ

NJ needs to get over the early yips in their series but I still think top to bottom they are the class of the East, edging out Carolina despite the series right now. Maybe goaltending was a weakness against NYR but is their goaltending clearly any worse than any team left aside from like Dallas? And while Carolina’s forecheck is impressive I don’t trust them to score when the going gets tough. Not enough creativity offensively and too much reliance on launching point shots and crashing the net.

1-6 no one has a better D corps. Carolina is close but give me Severson and Hughes over Gostisbehere and Chatfield. And they have depth and star power at forward. Hopefully Lindy doesn’t hold them back too much with boneheaded decisions going forward!

Serious question: is Auston Matthews a Maple Leaf after next season?

I used to think he’d for sure re-sign but Dubas is likely gone this offseason and now I’m not sure. Both he and Marner have NMCs that kick in on July 1. If they get swept I wouldn’t be shocked if one of them were traded by then.

Matthews has been ok but definitely not like the star player that one would think but guess we'll need to see if he's injured.
