2022-23 New Goalie Equipment and Masks

Everyone loves a good cactus paint ride!

Are the chin numbers supposed to be earthworms? Or like some sort of bacteria under a microscope? Or what?

Anyway. I did not previously know what a "Cactus Paint Ride" is...and i feel like after viewing this mask...i still do not know what a "Cactus Paint Ride" is. :dunno:

My initial reaction is...that's actually not too bad. But on deeper inspection...it's basically just a less well laid out, and far messier version of Brodeur's mask. Where the contours of the mask itself give some kinda wonky properties to some of the design elements from certain angles, particularly the Devils logo.

It bugs the heck out of me that there's an enormous ventilation hole right in the otters throat.

That mask would have been great with the RR2 .... Odd he is using the old Texas shoulder logo after the RR2's are over with.

To be fair, it seems to me that it's exactly what the design was aiming for. I don't think achieving should be seen as a negative.

What exactly is it "achieving" in this case though?

It's taken a successful design, and ignored some of the underlying aspects that made it work. Achieving bad design isn't "achieving" anything imo. It's not an accomplishment to mimic an existing design in a far less thoughtful way. A way that fails to incorporate things like the contours, shapes, openings of the "canvas" the way the original did. It's a regressive and less well integrated design iteration.

The imitative "sketchy lines" are whatever. In that sense, i don't like the graphical choice, but if that was the desired effect, so be it. It's the actual fundamental design that is replicated in a sloppy way though. That's the messy part. It looks like someone drew a messy picture of the original design onto a new mask, without considering how and why things were laid out in specific ways on the original. It reflects the design on a superficial level, but clearly ignores the underlying design principles that matter most in terms of composition, layout, proportion, etc.
